Did Yoshinori Ono Update Us On Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition?

By Spencer . February 2, 2011 . 1:38am

After announcing Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition at Comic-Con, Capcom hasn’t said much about the title. That is until Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono tweeted "Oh, SFIII 3rd Online so nice! It will be fun," and posted this picture.

It appears to be Yun, one of the characters in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, but the artwork is different. Perhaps, Capcom is giving this game the Super Street Fighter II HD Remix treatment? Or is this screenshot from another title? Ono is no stranger to teasing announcements on Twitter. He revealed artwork for new Super Street Fighter IV costumes before they were announced just a few months ago.

In my honest opinion all the art from SF3S has remained rather constant. It’s very beautiful. Now if(I really hope not) we’re seeing like a SF HD remix type of thing done with the art then I feel majority of the appeal goes away. It’s probably promo art or win screens.

I can’t imagine they’d do the HD remix thing after all the problems they had putting SSFIITHDR together.

    • MrSirFeatherFang

I remember someone saying the same thing at the Capcom forums until some capcom employee said that since it was their first time doing it they had problems. He assured us that the next HD Remixes would be much quicker or more easily workable. I’m sorry to say I forgot the actual quote (I think it was in the Darkstalkers HD remix thread)
However I didn’t keep track on SFIITHDR before release so I don’t know how you felt :(

Do whatever you want to the graphics, Capcom, but I swear to GOD if you even THINK about touching the music…

    • cmurph666

      The music wasn’t that great…

I actually wouldn’t mind if the got the guys at OCRemix to do the soundtrack again.

Yeah, I actually hate the music in SF3. I was so glad to hear how much of an improvement SF4′s music was (with the exception of that awful “Indestructible” song).

I thought you had to be at least 12 to post here

        • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

… why did you feel the need to say this? That was totally unnecessary.

  • http://twitter.com/manasteel88 Mana

Maybe they are just doing a Mavel vs Capcom 2 style menu system with this new art style.

Not sure if I want them to mess too much with the sprites as 3 had some gorgeous sprite work.

ehh the music wasn’t that great to be honest, in fact it’s soo much different than previous SF games. i guess that makes it stand out than other SF. don’t get me wrong i love the 2D style gameplay(much better than SSFIV) but there’s too many missing SF classic characters like Bison, Cammy, Zangief, Adon and many more.

though the addition of the twins is awesome :)

      • FireCouch

Those characters aren’t necessary. The new ones they added for 3rd Strike had plenty of similar gameplay elements.

        • PrinceHeir

          nope.

no bison character like, sagat are out, remy seems to replace guile which is good. i don’t like hugo but other additions like Q and Alex are awesome. Sean is a waste of character.

it’s kinda weird that SFIII is the latest in the series Canon yet we didn’t see characters like Juri, Viper, Rufus. i don’t want them to be exclusively in SFIV timeline. let’s hope they all make it on SFV.

im just glad they’re finally releasing this with online component. this is gonna be sweet :)

          • fermented

You say Sean is a waste of a character, but funny thing is he was a good character in SF3 2nd Impact. I believe that he was originally designed to be the only shoto style character in the game until they realized that they game wouldn’t sell well without Ryu and Ken.

          • PrinceHeir

ehh im just not a fan of shoto’s. and yeah without Ryu, Ken, Akuma. expect sales to drop significantly.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1472407455 Charles Lupula

In a perfect world, SFV will have an older Juri as last boss having been behind the scenes during the events of SF3.

          • PrinceHeir

i would love to see that :)

Juri is my main in SSFIV ^^ not to mention she pretty much singlehandedly defeated every Dolls member(except Cammy)

            she’s that evil :D

Seriously whenever I think of sprites, it’s hard not to think of SFIII.
They were just SO fluid. beautiful sprite work in SFIII!

3s is the last good fighting game, definitly want.

I doubt that they could get as much people to play this as SSFIV (AE). There are a few people who play this now but at the moment, SSFIV (AE) is the fighting game of the now and it won’t be ignored just for a online version of a game that wasn’t even that good to start off with (sure a lot of people played it back then but it was really really bad).

  • KyoyaHibari

Yoshi Trollo is at it again -_-

  • fermented

If you ask me, the artwork looks more like a render of Yun for TekkenxSF, not a hint for a HD Remix for 3rd Strike Online.

  • d19xx

This is a mistake Capcom. People will see how inferior 4 compared to 3rd Strike.

  • http://www.tbstactics.com mjemirzian

Good grief the staff here is dense. It’s a shot from the character select screen.

  • http://photovoltaik.bandcamp.com/ Ujn Hunter

You know what stinks? The fact that I used to be able to play SFIII online. Now I’ll have to rebuy it again to play online. Fun.
