Barge Into Another Person’s Game And Kill Them In Way Of The Samurai 4

By Spencer . February 4, 2011 . 1:56am

Spike’s latest trailer for Way of the Samurai 4 showcases swordfights and new gameplay systems.

If you missed our previous posts, the Proof of Life system carries actions from one game into the next. The part where the main character was sneaking through a house was a stealth action part where you can have a romantic rendezvous at night. And the water wheel is a torture mini-game designed to punish wanton violence.

A feature we haven’t heard about before is sword testing bystander killing mode. Acquire created a system where players automatically upload their character data online, which is then transferred to another player’s game. Once your samurai wanders into another world he becomes a NPC bent on sharpening his sword by killing the master of that world. Defeat the invader and you’ll win his sword.

PlayStation Network will see an influx of wandering samurai on March 3 when Way of the Samurai 4 is released in Japan.

Looks very promising and fun. Hopefully a European release is in the cards :D

Rising Star Games published Way of The Samurai 3 in Europe for PS3 and X360 last year, so there may be a chance they could bring the fourth installment later this year.

When I read the headline, I was thinking this was going to use the Demon’s Souls online mechanic.

Why didn’t they just make it online like Demon’s Souls or Mindjack?

It doesn’t sound like a very samurai-ish thing to do, unless the intruding player is being instructed to do this by his master…
