Secret Of Mana Stars Show Up As Cameo Characters In Another iPhone Game

By Spencer . February 8, 2011 . 1:38am

vfA few months ago, Square Enix released Secret of Mana for the iPhone. Now Randy (that’s the boy’s name in Japan), the Sprite (aka Popoie), and Purim (the girl) are cameo characters in Voice Fantasy.

You can add the heroes from Secret of Mana to your two man party and have them battle the Devil King or challenge the characters you created from yelling into your iPhone or iPod Touch. Randy has general attacks. Purim uses recovery and support magic. Popoie’s strong point is offensive magic. All patterns are consistent with their roles in Secret of Mana.

Nice to see Randy and Purim in another game, but I thought the at the end the Sprite… never mind this is a crossover cameo celebration.

Ugh, SoM’s retroactively official character names.

Gamest Magazine came up with them, and they somehow managed to become canonized, as Square Enix uses them now.

  • Would be awesome if Voice Fantasy was more then just a novelty game.

Making a new, 2D Seiken Densetsu game would be a major step in the right direction yet SE seems to think Mindjack and such are of greater priorities.

  • …Randy?

Man I miss this series. (Mana I mean)

A new game that’s actually good, or at least a localized port/remake of Seiken Densetsu 3 would be so nice.

Canon names schmanon names. I’ll always refer to these characters the same way I named them as a kid: myself as the hero and my two sisters as the other ones. Yes, I thought the sprite was a girl for years.
