Rumor: Grasshopper Manufacture Developing Lollipop Chainsaw

By Spencer . February 11, 2011 . 3:32pm

image9We heard rumblings that Grasshopper Manufacture has another IP in development aside from Shadows of the Damned and Sine Mora. The title is called Lollipop Chainsaw, a name that surprised us, but not because how absurd it is.

Last year, we discovered Kadokawa Games trademarked Lollipop Chainsaw in Japan and the US. Grasshopper Manufacture is developing a game for Kadokawa Games too, but that title has not been announced yet.

Kadokawa Games is also publishing Earth Seeker from Crafts & Meister as well as Prope’s next game, Rodea the Sky Soldier. While it seems like Kadokawa is looking to license Rodea the Sky Soldier, none of their titles have been announced for an international release.

  • Already trademarked in the US? Wow it sounds like an intriguing game.

  • The name alone has already captivated me. Sounds like a mad loli wielding a chainsaw the color of candy haha hey that is just me hehe

  • [The Hunter] Doomrider

Yasuhiro Wada’s new game, featuring Suda’s cute Mario-like character, in which you work in a lollipop factory during the day and murder cows and chickens with a chainsaw at night. Or something.

Seriously though, that name totally sounds like something Suda would come up with. Maybe they’ll reveal this one after DMD comes out?

Speaking of which, Shadows of the Damned will be shown at GDC! …Behind closed doors.

    • D:
I am for the animals! lol

      • [The Hunter] Doomrider

I’m not sure if I can trust a “mad loli wielding a chainsaw”…

  • It’s a game where you play a psychotic moe-moe magical girl, who mistakes her murderous chainsaw rampage for saving the universe. Cover the world in a bloody rainbow! Desu that that enemy to a bloody paste!

    Don’t forget the transformation scenes.

    • M’iau M’iaut

With the kid from Kore wa Zombie and Dokoro-chan available as special online guest fragpaste characters.

    • puchinri

It sounds like the comical version of Puella Magi Madoka Magika.
Which… Wouldn’t be bad inspiration for a game.

      • amagidyne

I would think just about any other magical girl anime would be a better comparison. Especially the parody ones (Dokuro-chan, Dai mahou touge, etc).

        • puchinri

Considering it’s GHM, I think it’s pretty apt. Dai Mahou Touge would be a close second, but parody of PMMM fits more to me.

    • If that was a PS3 game, I would buy that day one. lol

  • M’iau M’iaut

Maybe this could be the girls of Bizzare Jelly challenging Travis.

  • pedrron

Grasshopper Manufacture is behind this? Count me in!!

  • EvilAkito

We always associate chainsaws with violence. I bet it’s just an innocent game where you trim down trees.

    • M’iau M’iaut

*imagines the amazing panty shot you get on the magical girl as she climbs to reach the higher branches*

      • PrinceHeir

*then she falls down flat on your face :D

  • puchinri

Wow, Kadokawa is really on top of things. I hope they keep publishing for companies like Craft&Meister, Proper and GHM.

Lollipop Chainsaw is reminding me of the manga with the girl and her chainsaw, and her grandfather is the sheriff or whatever from TCM. Just because of the name… I am very interested in it though.

I hope we see all of the Kadokawa published titles.

  • PrinceHeir

yes any grasshopper game is always welcome :D

though where’s The Silver Case remake on the DS suda? please tell me you switch it to 3DS? :P

  • Code

rar, like the name, it’s got edge! I think whatever it is it’ll probably appeal to me more then Shadows of the Damned, although I’ll have to wait and see on that, Suda has never let me down >w<'

  • shion16

Thats an awesome idea for a weapon.
How is that nobody thought that for a manga?

  • GhM is the bomb!
