Final Fantasy V Hired For PSN’s Game Archives In Japan

dff03As part of Square Enix’s launch plan for Dissidia 012[duodecim]: Final Fantasy, the publisher will re-release Final Fantasy V as a digital download. The PsOne port will be available for PlayStation 3 and PSP via PlayStation Network sometime this spring.

While lacking in new features, Final Fantasy V for PsOne was the first official release of Bartz’s chocobo riding, job changing tale in the West. It was released along with Final Fantasy VI and a soundtrack CD as Final Fantasy Anthology in North America.

Square Enix has not said anything about re-releasing Final Fantasy V for PlayStation Network in North America. However, it looks like Square Enix USA is gearing up to release a slew of PsOne games.

  • At last another FF game, i see no point in them re releasing IV as that is going on PSP though i am sure like myself some fans will want it anyway to complete their digital FF collection along with their physical ones. I would also like to see VI on PSN soon. I may have 3 copies of it, but i want a PSN version too.

  • Draparde

wow, this would be perfect if it was the US PSN…

Not really, the PSX version of Final Fantasy V has a horrible translation and the music takes a real shot in the face as well. the best way to play it is probably still the fan translation on an emulator.

      • Zero_Destiny

Or the GBA version which was awesome. :) Had new translation and some special features added to it. The music was fine too.

        • Bakuryukun

I really didn’t care for the music more new translation in FFVA either, the music doesn’t have anywhere near the same level of audio quality the the SNES version had, and the translation is filled with silly puns and catch phrases, it just comes off as very juvenile to me, like it works okay for Gilgamesh, but then he’s always been goofy, but when Bartz says lines like “Sweet Christmas, a talking turtle!” It makes me cringe.

          • “Sweet Christmas, a talking turtle!”

Sounds like a meme ahead of its time.

Here’s hoping for FFVI. A digital download would be cheaper than buying a physical Japanese copy.

  • Oh Gilgamesh, you persistent fool. <3

I'm happy with my Anthology version (and will eventually buy a SFC version to appease the rabid Final Fantasy collector in me) but it would still be nice to see this on NA PSN. More folks should play this gem.

Once I finally gave it a chance I ended up enjoying it more than VI, and is my favorite in the series up until PSone.

  • Well it’s a start. Now lets complain some more so that they will make an enchanced version :D

    • Heh, this is also the one with the badly localized translation. I do hope we get the enhanced version of this game a la “Complete Collection”, but with the OVAs and a Gilgamesh Storyline (kinda like FF-II’s “Soul of Rebirth”)!

      • 4shiki

Dunno, I doubt Square considers the Legend of the Crystals OVA canon anymore.

    • PrinceHeir

yeah i prefer a enhanced version on NGP as well as FFVI :)

that would attract tons of people on buying an NGP :P

  • About time… I have the version which crashes when attempting to save on PS3. I’m going to sell that copy.

  • NoElixirs

One of the best FF battle systems. Lenna’s theme too. <3

  • awesome stuff, I wantttt!

  • Yukito

My favorite FF, but like I said, SE isn’t getting anymore money from me for ports. I got a copy of most FF, I don’t need more copies of the same games.

  • SolidusSnake

I wonder if it has the same loading problems that the US PS1 release had (long pause every time you open a menu etc). I would have rather seen FFV get a PSP update rather than 4 but that’s just me.
