Introducing Chaos Code, Sega’s High-Speed 2D Fighter

By Spencer . February 18, 2011 . 12:05pm

011[1]Sega brought a high-speed fighting game to AOU 2011 called Chaos Code. This title from FK Digital lets players select a skill and a dash before a bout begins so even fights with the same character are different.

Chaos Code uses a joystick and four button control system for: weak punch, strong punch, weak kick, and strong kick. The control scheme, Sega says, is simple. Beginners will be able to execute flashy attacks just by pushing button in a certain order.

While some arcades have a location test version of Chaos Code, Sega plans to release the final game in arcades this summer.

Hoo another fighter, the graphics look nice, the sprites well detailed, could look a bit better, but meh, I really really like some of the character designs though! Awesome chef Bravo is awesome!

    • MisterDandylion

Sory for my ignorance… :( But who is Bravo?

      He looks cool though :D

      • https://twitter.com/RaiohV ShinkaRaioh

The cooks name in this game is Bravo. :P

That reminds me of Captain Bravo from Busou Renkin, he was an awesome character too. :D

        • MisterDandylion

          What….!? O__O

          Hey! xD You’re right Raioh!

I remember that anime ( watched it a long time ago though).

Comet Bravo Kick! Charming-Bravo Kiss!!! XD

          • https://twitter.com/RaiohV ShinkaRaioh

“My real name is a secret because…IT’S COOLER THAT WAY!”

Oh man that was a great show. xD

So, which board does this run on? I guess it’s one of the new Ring series? They announced those two years ago, and I still don’t know of any games that actually use them.

    • mikanko

It runs on RINGWIDE, same hardware that runs the latest ver. of Melty Blood. It’s not exactly a new announcement. This game has been in development a while, and has already had 3 different location tests over the last couple years, a couple times looking like the game was lost in limbo. Interesting to see that it’s finally getting a release, hopefully they’ve got it fine tuned.

  • JustAnotherTraveler

Bravo is one of the most epic fighting game characters ever. I cant wait to play this game.

awesome!!! i’m hoping for a ps3 release in the future…

  • puchinri

Wow, so this and TT2 this summer. Or is this not going to be worldwide? Either way, both will at least be in Japan.

I’m loving the character designs, art and graphics. The overall look seems to be pretty schway.

It looks fun, I hope it gets a console release. Localization would be nice to, depending on the console it goes to.

It’s like the resurgence of fighting games again (not that I have anything against it. Fighting games are my soul).

    • Skua

This one’s a bit interesting in that it’s being developed by a Taiwanese team (more specifically, the people who created those freeware Fighter Maker games, Fighters Kyodotai and Super Cosplay War Ultra).

I wasn’t particularly interested in their previous efforts. However, we’ll see how this one turns out.

      • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/ashgail Ashgail

Never heard of Fighters Kyodotai, but Super Cosplay War was decent and insane, although the presentation was a bit of a turn off. Can’t say no to more fighting games

  • NipponjiRurouniJSRF

Damn fighters are on the rise with MVC3, Arcana Heart 3, BBCS2, and KOFXIII I dont know if I can contain the excitement

      Adventure->FPS->Fighting->JRPG->Music games (repeat cyle)

Apparently, that’s how the western market’s oversaturation cycle goes like, for a lack of a better term.

Oooh! Different skills, hm? I’ll be keeping my eye on this one.

  • Code

Interesting, although it’s a shame it could be widescreen from the start rather then having to run into the same split Arcana Heart has run into opo; Well here’s to Sega/FK if they can pull it off, the competition is fierce >w<

Oh man… I hope Arcade UFO gets this in. I should probably go to Arcade UFO sometime regardless… but Chaos Code would be a perfect reason to go.

  • WyattEpp

FK Digital? Who are these guys? I’m sort of reminded of NRF’s BigBangBeat. I’d like to know who’s doing system and character design, but Google is just not doing it for me.

“LP, LK, HP, HK” = vintage #SNK controls, BAYBEE!

Does this play like a slow classic 2D, or a fast-paced fighting game?

  • http://twitter.com/Rey_Trejo Rey Trejo

Did Sega forget they stole the rights to Guilty Gear?

    • krokounleashed

arcsys said that they can do a new gg whenever they want, so … I don’t think sega really owns it. So Sega does a new Anime-Fighter instead giving us VF5FS for console? pff go away.

  • PrinceHeir

    yay more fighting games :D

though i expect Darstalkers IV, Guilty Gear 3, Capcom vs Snk 2, Namco vs Capcom, Tatsunoko vs Capcom 2 in the near future :P

oh and please SNK release KOF XIII and make another dream match. combine the roster of 2002 and XI. add playable ash and saiki(normal form) as well as “Those from the Past”

that would be the best KOF dream match ever made :P

    • z_merquise

I actually prefer if SNK would make a new Samurai Shodown in 2D first before releasing another KOF game. Heck, I’m still waiting for them to develop the all-new 2D Metal Slug game that they mentioned more than 2 years ago.

Still, I’m glad that there were lots of fighting games coming out lately. The genre is becoming more active and every fighting game fans should be happy of how the genre is now in this generation.

      • PrinceHeir

would love a metal slug in the same vein as hard corps or bionic commando rearmed.

also a revival of contra would be nice too :P

yay did you also buy MVC3? that game has deadpoolz :P

        • z_merquise

I still don’t have MvC3 yet. I’m planning to get the Limited Edition. Deadpool really looked like an enjoyable character to play in that game so he’s surely the character I would mostly use.

          • PrinceHeir

hell yeah i keep using him in my team. love his moon walk and hilarious taunts at you XD

  • http://strictlyapathy.comoj.com/ SoulArbiter

Looks like the controls are like SNK’s with the flashiness and flare of Guilty Gear. I’ll bite.

If they make a PS3 version, I’ll pick it up.

  • shion16

    AWESOME!!!

  • http://twitter.com/gabriel_may_uk Gabriel May

Looks very fun and give me the feeling of a remixed Rage of the Dragons (an awesome fighting game).
