Square Enix Jumps On The El Shaddai Meme

By Spencer . March 6, 2011 . 11:06pm

imageOriginally seen on Nico Nico, a meme for El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron caught fire in Japan. The joke has Lucifel ask Enoch if he’s wearing enough armor. Enoch responds, dressed in silver armor, that there’s no problem and everything is OK.

This scene was remixed hundreds of times and now Square Enix is getting in on the internet hype with a web commercial for the official El Shddai art book. That’s right Square Enix is working with Ignition Entertainment Japan.

Bandai partnered with Ignition too after Lucifel called the company and told them God wants Bandai to make figures. For a new intellectual property (well, for the video game space) and a new studio, El Shaddai has an unusual amount of outside support. Perhaps, Ignition Japan will debut with a hit on their hands when El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron comes out on April 28 in Japan. Ignition hopes to release the game in North America this summer.

  • I have not heard of this meme until now. D: I am disappoint.

    • DanteJones

      Yeah, same here. :<

And thus, we must do research… For SCIENCE!

This meme has been plaguing the nico nico douga rankings for months now. Some vids are hilarious but most of them go above my head. The Japanese have a very odd sense of humor.

Basically, some dude asks a dude with long blonde hair if he has enough armor, and the blonde dude says “no problem, everything’s fine.” You can find a bunch of videos on youtube with no problem everything’s fine synced to music. If you’re easily amused you might find it entertaining for a few minutes or so. :p

I’m certainly going to be picking up a copy of this. It looks pretty damn stylish and I’m good with what gameplay I’ve seen to date.

    Though, is it getting localized?

    • Yeah, it is. They’ve already announced it would be coming over.

Lol saw that ads on latest Star Driver

    • Ha same here! xD
Kinda wished for my Mameshiba though. :/

      • Zero_Destiny

Star Driver without Mameshiba just isn’t the same. :(

        • holyPaladin

          Baby Baby Babyshiba~

  • i am actually quite skeptical when the game was first announced…And I can barely understand the hype of the game in Japan even untill now… Perhaps lucifel is a very attractive character that grab their attention… However, I can’t say the hype did not affect me though.. From not getting it at all to depending on the reviews from reliable reviewers.. I might get the game…

  • Japan’s sleeper hit of the year? Well I’m placing good money on that being the case.

  • All I could think of was “STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM!”

    • JustaGenericUser

Dammit, I was JUST about to say that.

  • I’m split on this. It’s a new game and I want more “new” games. But I also don’t want memes and everything associated with them to gain (even more) more power in the gaming world.
