Dissidia Duodecim Prologus Arrives In North America Next Week

By Spencer . March 10, 2011 . 8:01am

imageEager to try Dissidia 012[duodecim]: Final Fantasy before it launches in the West? Then log on to PlayStation Network on March 15. That’s when Square Enix will release Dissidia Duodecim Prologus in North America.

This episode is a prologue to Dissidia 012[duodecim]: Final Fantasy with a short storyline starring Lightning. Kain from Final Fantasy IV is playable in arcade mode along with a handful of returning Chaos characters from Dissidia: Final Fantasy. Check out our playtest of the Japanese version for more information about Dissidia Duodecim Prologus.

Dissidia Duodecim Prologus is $2.99 and it includes the Aerith Gainsborough assist character.

  • YES!! So Glad To Get This!!

  • I guess we will get the same “bonus” for getting this and then purchasing the full game right ?

    • PurpleDoom

Yeah, the Aerith assist. It’s basically a paid demo aside from that.

      • Actually, The 2.99 is prolly for the Aerith DLC assist and the Story. They never made people pay for the other Demos they’ve released.

        • Matt Andre

Actually, the “$2.99” isn’t just for Aerith. That’s silly. As it’s been stated before, it’s EXTRA story that isn’t in Duodecim. It’s an entire backstory set before Duodecim..

Ten days is alright but a bit too close for me, I guess most people will buy it for the Aerith assist.

I’ve been checking out the Japanese gameplay and OMG!! Desperado Chaos is officially the most badass enemy in a fighting game for a long time. His ex-burst is amazing and he is frikin scary lol.

    • Yeah, first thing i heard from a friend that i havent talked with in months, when i mentioned, “did you know Dissidia Duodecim is about to co…” –” OH YEAH DUDE, THERE WILL BE AERITH!! but ahh why only assist…”

      And i was like “O-o…”

And then i told him i wanted Vivi, and he said so too… Why couldnt they put Vivi!! D:!! Is the best representation of all the black mages in the final fantasy games T-T

      • karasuKumo

I’m glad Aerith is just an assist, if she was playable imagine all the videos of her being impaled by Sephiroth all over again lol.

Vivi would have been brilliant :) Shantotto is cool but could have better magic attacks. I kind of wanted another character from the first FF like the Thief, or Cid Raines from XIII, he would have had an awesome ex-mode :).

        • doomspeller10

Lots of videos of Aerith being comboed by assist Tifa and then impaled by Sephiroth, while a useless Cloud assist looks in despair from afar.

I’d watch that, like once a day at least.
But as you said, there were many possibilities with Vivi, too bad he didn’t make it in. All I wanted besides Tifa was a character from either VI or IX… d’oh. But hey, we got Girugamesh.

          • Matt Andre

The plus-side here is that SE hasn’t ruled out adding DLC to PlayStation Network. They’ve said they’re going to add extra costumes and background music stuff, so I can’t see why they wouldn’t throw in new characters later down the line! :D I think they’re hoping to make Duodecim -the- FF fighter, after learning from the original Dissidia..

            Here’s hoping? o/

    • Exkaiser

Desperado Chaos is pretty alright, but I think I’ll be sticking with my Nero Chaos.

      Heh, name humor.

  • I SOOO Happy to hear this. But why a week before the Official release date? Anyway… :D

And I’m waiting to hear news about Parasite Eve.

  • Great. They just had to release it on the day I would be playing Gods Eater Burst.

  • Yay, I”m glad this is coming over here to hold me over until the full game comes out.

  • Jenova2212

    A paid demo.

    Even Blizzard/Activision don’t do that! …Only Square Enix. -_-

  • Ereek

Argh, too early. Tactics Ogre still isn’t willing to be removed from my PSP yet.

    • Seriously… I just hit 93 hours completing my first playthrough and still want more. Between it, Ys Oath in Felghana/I & II Chronicles (which I have and just need to beat), Dissidia, and Legend of Heroes which comes out around the same time, there is waaaay too much I need to play this month…

      • Ereek

It’s a huge time sink and I love it. I’m going to start making my way down the Palace of the Dead soon, and I expect that to took a couple of days on its own.

And yeah, Ys1&2 is still waiting for me as well. Dissidia and Trails in the Sky are already pre-ordered, and the western version of The Third Birthday as well. March is an excellent month for PSP RPGs, but there’s actually too much.

  • Too little, Too Late SE. Releasing a Paid demo a week before the game comes out (for no reason other than they can) is BS and I will not be supporting this venture.

Of Course, they’ll be getting my money for the DLC costumes anyway ^-^’

    • Yu_TheKing

My thoughts exactly. Why release a paid demo the week BEFORE? They reason I can see someone getting this is for Aeris.

      • Matt Andre

You guys DO realize that it’s a PROLOGUE, right? It’s not -just- a demo. There’s a backstory that happens -before- 012 even begins. Granted, it would have been MUCH nicer to see it released a month ago, around when Japan got Prologus.. But eh. It’s a start. Plus you take all your items and stuff from the demo into the full game. Seems fair to me, seeing as it’s only $3..

  • Hopefully an european release shouldn’t be that far off now.

  • Jenova2212

And why is everyone so excited about this!?

It’s like, like you’re happy this INJUSTICE is being committed against you!

SE: “Ok, Kyle, we’re now going to cut your penis off! And in turn, you’ll get to see my shiny instruments in action as they do it!”
Kyle: “Waaah…? Why would I do that!?”
    SE: “…Cause they’re SHINY!”
Kyle: “Oooh…! Ok, ok! Just hurry it up!”

  • PrinceHeir

    awesome :)

will buy it for sure :P

  • So want Nrvnqsr up in this.
