Lufia & The Fortress Of Doom & The Virtual Console Re-Release

By Spencer . March 11, 2011 . 2:14am

Lufia_Fortress_of_DoomSquare Enix is planning on re-releasing the Super Nintendo RPG Lufia & The Fortress of Doom as a Virtual Console download. The game just popped up in the ESRB listed as a Wii game.

Lufia & The Fortress of Doom is the game that started the Lufia series and introduces the main characters in Lufia II: Rise/Curse of the Sinistrals. You play as their descendants and have to face the Sinistrals decades after Maxim defeated them. Although, at this point you wouldn’t know that.

A release date has not been announce, but since the ESRB outed Lufia & The Fortress of Doom it should be available soon. And that means a new generation of gamers will learn about managing characters who purposely swing at air and miss if a monster is already defeated.

I know this may sound dumb, but I had no idea Square Enix actually published the Lufia series games. I always assumed it was Konami, for any weird reason I can’t quite explain :3

Tried to edit my comment but it seems it was deleted for some weird reason O.o As I was saying, this may sound weird but I had no idea Square Enix published the Lufia Series!

I always assumed it was Konami or something…Yet I can’t explain why I thought so.

Nah, it’s not dumb. The publisher situation is a little mixed up here!

The original series was published by Taito in Japan.
They only published the first Lufia in North America. Natsume translated and published the second. I don’t know about Europe.
Now Square Enix owns Taito, so that’s why they’re the ones deciding its VC fate.

SE seems to have a good relationship with Natsume, so I’m optimistic about the second Lufia showing up on VC too. :)

Oh my God when Nintendo first announced the Wii’s VC this was at the top of my list for games I wanted on it!!! I really want the second one too. Anyways this is exactly what I wanted to have happen after the release of the DS game. A re-spark of interest into the series (even if it’s teensey-winesy and fizzles out).

I’ll take it a sign that successful sales of this game in the Virtual Console will be the only thing will land #Lufia 2 in VC.

holy! I’m glad to see Lufia come to Virtual Console, such a good game. I’d probably get it too, if it wasn’t for the fact that I already own the SNES cart.

who else laughed at the preview pic for this *thumbs up*

Whoa. I wasn’t expecting this, that’s excellent news.
I think the gameplay of the sequel is far improved, but after you settle to the speed and a few other things, I think it’s quite enjoable.
