River City Ransom 2 Hitting Wii As A WiiWare Download

Miracle Kidz is working on a sequel to River City Ransom and they even have some of the original staff developing it. This news broke earlier this week sans one key detail, which console(s) will get River City Ransom 2.

The answer is Wii. River City Ransom 2 will be available on WiiWare in Japan this summer. A PC version is also in the works, but slated for release next year.

An interesting decision since Downtown Smash Dodgeball, a dodgeball game with the Kunio crew, was originally an Xbox 360 title. Miracle Kidz self-published it on Xbox Live Indie Games. A port of Downtown Smash Dodgeball is coming to WiiWare this May.

So far, River City Ransom 2 and the WiiWare version of Downtown Smash Dodgeball have not been announced for North America. An English localized version of Downtown Smash Dodgeball is available on Xbox Live right now, though.

That PC version is supposedly online capable according the Andriasang. Makes me wonder if the WiiWare version will be the same.

I know there was at least one Nekketsu Kunio-kun game with a fan designation as “part 2″ of RCR (and never released outside of Japan outside of fan translations), but… why werent’ those considered to be Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun 2 (or RCR2) in Japan, considering that it/they were also beat-em-up RPGs?

I can’t remember the name of this particular game, but it started off with Kunio and Riki (or whatever the blue guy is called) in a jailbreak. Eventually you could team up and play as their girlfriends or something. The character sprites were more normally-proportioned than the usual for the series.

EDIT: Found a video of the game I was talking about.
