After much silence about Chrono Trigger’s mobile phone debut, Square Enix set a date for the port. I-mode enabled devices will be able to download Chrono Trigger on April 25.

Aside from the release date, no details about this version were announced. Square Enix added a bunch of brand new content made just for the mobile release of Romancing SaGa 2. While Chrono Trigger for cell phones may not get the same treatment, Square Enix could add the extra dungeon and ending from the Nintendo DS version.

Hope this will also be available on BlackBerry systems, then I’ll have FF1 AND Chrono Trigger.

    • NoElixirs

Yes, my exact thoughts. I’m wondering if they’ll release it on BlackBerry smartphones. This game deserves a lot more.

The fact that a game like this can be on a phone is just amazing to me. I know there are huge phone games already and bigger games have been ported over to the phone but I mean when you take a step back and think about it. Just wow. It was only like 5 or 6 years ago I was playing this on my PSOne and if you told me that years later I could have it on my phone I would of never believed you. Man this is crazy, how fast tech can get moving.

…and then it comes out on the PSP.

A few months later… Chrono: Complete Collection or the Epoch Collection?

      • xxnike629xx

        Exactly… =D

But I hope if they do a PSP version, they use the DS version as the basis put up the 2D resolution to a crisp & clean level like what they did with Final Fantasy I, II, and IV…

        Speaking of that..

WHERE THE HECK IF FINAL FANTASY III, V, AND VI FOR THE PSP?!
WHERE THE HECK IS CHRONO CROSS ON THE PSN AS A PSONE CLASSIC?
WHERE THE HECK IS PARASITE EVE 2 ON THE PSN AS A PSONE CLASSIC?!

I think they’ll release a PSP version for sure. As for VI I really hope that they do a 3D remake with a green haired Terra. Not that I mind those cutesy sprites.

          • xxnike629xx

I hope they don’t do a full 3D remake. Final Fantasy III and IV’s 3D remake was ok at best, but I prefer that they keep the graphics as close to the original source material. =)

If they did a full 3D remake, I’d prefer it was done in cell-shading. Of all the games released by square it definitely held a very anime feeling and thus cell-shading would be the only way not to lose that.

Personally I didn’t like the DS remakes of those games. It would be great if the graphics were like Type-0 that game for an instant reminded me of VI but I don’t remember why? But more detailed sprites would be amazing as well.

Man, I must be the only one that really liked the DS remakes of FFIII and FIV. I’m still hoping that a DS remake of FFV is made. I think the sprites are fine even if they are a little cutesy.

I want it on my iTouch….

Agreed! Release this on the App Store for the win.

  • malek86

For some reason, I-mode sounds terribly old to me. Shouldn’t they drop it already?

  • PrinceHeir

the fact that this game(like RE4) gets ported in different platforms, you’d think they made a sequel years ago no?

still want this on PSN, but at least mobile phones can enjoy this godlike game :)

  • hush404

    What’s an I-mode phone?

    • malek86

A phone with support for the I-mode service, which is a sort of WAP (but WAP can be used by pretty much any internet-enabled phone over the world). It comes from Docomo NTT. They tried expanding in other countries, but those services closed down one by one, and now, pretty much only Japan still remains. It’s very popular over there though.

      • hush404

Oh. Okay, so… I should just stick with my SNES emulated version on my droid and forget about seeing it any time soon? :P

        • malek86

The point is that, if it’s not for Android/iOS/whatever, the chances of seeing it here are zero.

Bonus story idea: Crono travels back in time and alters history so Square(Enix) still makes these kinds of games.
