Details On Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked’s 8th Day

By Spencer . April 15, 2011 . 5:05pm

dsocaOne of the key additions in Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked is the 8th Day. This new episode takes place after Devil Survivor ends, but like many Shin Megami Tensei games, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor has multiple endings.

So, which ending does the 8th Day continue from? Yo Hazuki, Scenario Designer, answered that question — it’s whatever ending you earn. If you decide to break through the blockade, the 8th Day picks up with your characters rushing home. Get the Demon King ending and you see what the main character does with his newfound powers.

The 8th Day changes depending on your decisions, which means there are multiple 8th Days to play through. That’s pretty neat, and with New Game Plus, seeing the other "what if" scenarios shouldn’t be too difficult.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked is slated for a summer release in North America.

Naoya ending, all day, every day. He’s delicious.

  • Tsunayoshi Sawada

So which is the TRUE eight day? Probably will be the first game I ever try to get all endings on.

    • DDanny

There aren’t true endings in megaten games like Devil Survivor. Well, besides Neutral path for SMT1, which didn’t matter in the end anyway.
I like it better this way, as games with true paths usually mean the others will be lacking in content, kinda beats the reason for having multiple paths IMO.

      • Tsunayoshi Sawada

Well isnt there a Devil Survivor 2, surely one of these 8th days has to lead to that game.

        • Allison

Devil Survivor 2 might not be that close to Devil Survivor. The plot certainly seems very different.

        • Shadow_Raskolnik

Not likely, it’ll probably be like the majority of other SMT games where it will be it’s own entry separate from the storyline of the previous game.

  • SoulArbiter

I’m looking forward to this, so very much!

  • Slashlen

Great. I was wondering how they were going to do that since the endings were really different. This sounds like it’s a lot of extra content.

I’m ready to get each ending all over again. Especially Naoya’s.

  • forweg 1

Awesome news, I was afraid there would just be one 8th day for all endings.

Tons of my playtime will be sunk into this game.

  • amc99

    I wish I have a 3ds….

  • PrinceHeir

    awesome sauce :D

  • DDanny

see what the main character does with his newfound powers…?
Oh my, I can already feel the return of the almighty YHVH. A fight against Metatron would be smalltalk for 8th day.

  • PersonaSpace

This is a most delicious turn of events. I’m sold on the game now.

  • Allison

So the eighth day is an extended ending?

    • Nyaa

      Extended ending of EACH endings.

      • Allison

That still doesn’t seem like much for all the emphasis put on it. Maybe if you actually get to play out the eighth day but if it’s just watching events thats definitely not worth my money.

        • Cucumber

according to a dude who works at Atlus on the Atlus forums, its actually pretty substantial and also has gameplay attached to it.

  • Adrian S. Cornwall

Wait, so how would a Gin ending work? Unless he decides to try to find Aya…

  • thebanditking

Still debating this one, considering the graphics are not upgraded and I already own the DS release I am hesitant to pick this up. Though I would immediately do so if Atlus says the entire OST is being remastered and will be fixing the nasty compressed opening music (one of the things I am really liking about 3DS is the massively improved audio)
