Ah, So Now The PlayStation Move Has A Knockoff

Starting in 2007, Wii knockoffs flooded drugstores. One manufacturer moved on from Nintendo’s design and set their sights on Sony’s motion controller, the PlayStation Move. Introducing Motion on the Move, a TV game system from Ever Sparkle Technologies.




One controller acts like the PlayStation Move’s nav controller and the other the Move with a built-in microphone, but minus the glowing orb.


I saw one of these at a trade show running a few simple games. There was tennis, pool, ping pong, a Magnetica-like marble game, a light gun style robot shooter, a Wipeout clone (if Wipeout was a Genesis game…), and whack-an-alien (pictured).

    I understand making a knockoff of a successful console…but making a knockoff of a failed accessory?

    If the original didn’t sell well, what makes them think a knockoff is going to do any better? Heck, the entire point of most of these knockoffs is to be mistaken with a more successful product. I guess by mimicking an unsuccessful accessory, they are hoping…to do…..even worse?

    • Sony has sold 8 million Move controllers to retailers, how is that not successful?

        Beacuse its not the sales of the controller itself that are relevant, but those of the PS3. Sony didn’t create the Move to sell it to its existing audience; it created the Move to attract new customers to its consoles. But while the accessory itself did sell, PS3 sales saw no substantial increase. This means that the Move predominantly sold to the existing PS3 audience…meaning, it failed in its original intent of attracting new customers.

        If this was a knockoff of just the accessory (meaning it was an unlicensed third party accessory for the PS3), I might have understood why they were making one. But this is its own system. And if the original controller failed to attract customers to the PS3, why would this knockoff attract people to this system?

        • I think if they were trying to attract a new audience, they’d do what Microsoft are doing with Kinect and go on Oprah with it, put ads in Cosmo, and appeal to the casual soccer moms who hadn’t heard of a videogame system before the Wii. That’s why Kinect is selling as well as it is. Sony seems to be focusing the Move mostly on the hardcore audience. Why else would they be emphasizing its capacities on their established franchises, like Killzone and SOCOM? That’s not going to attract a new audience.

          They’d be hyping up Singstar and whatever else casual stuff they have if they were trying for the soccer mom crew.

          It’s hardly a failed accessory. I’d like to see you sell eight million of anything.

            Really? Is that why their advertisements included the whole “entertainment for everyone” aspect? Beacuse they were emphasising “hardcore” games?


            Furthermore, there was that whole nonsense about how Wii owners were going to “upgrade” to the PS3 which Sony claimed back in 2009:


            And then made a similar claim prior to Move’s release:

            “IG: Do you literally anticipate that people who are Wii owners right now will say, ‘Hey, here’s another motion control system similar to Wii. I want to upgrade.’ Do you believe you’ll see a lot of that?

            SR: I think so, sure. That’s definitely an audience that we’re targeting. One of the beauties of the PS3 with the whole ad campaign, “It Only Does Everything,” there’s a lot to that. It could mean that a lot of families bring it into the house because it’s a Blu-ray player, and [Move] is just another reason for them to bring it into the house. Maybe someone is sitting on the fence about whether or not to upgrade [to PS3] and this could lead them to do it.”

            Also, which was the game that was most often bundled with the Move? Was it Killzone? Was it SOCOM? Nope, it was Sports Champions, the shameless knockoff of Wii Sports.

            Sony was very much targeting a new audience with the Move. Infact, the reason “hardcore” games were being made for it was to control the inevitable backlash that came from their existing audience, especially since the development and release of Move preety much went against Sony’s previous statements:


            Move was intended to push sales of the PS3. The console saw no substantial increase in sales. Therefore, Move failed in its intended task and thus can very much be considered a failure.

    Anyway, the whiteness of the controls really makes it resemble other not so clean-minded devices. Where’s Mr. Sparkle when you need him? We need to clean this up pronto.
