Xseed: Be Patient For Trails In The Sky Second Chapter, It’s About Twice The Size Of FC

By Spencer . April 29, 2011 . 2:06pm

ss02By now, Falcom fans probably completed The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky and are eagerly awaiting for the two disc sequel. Xseed talked about The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky Second Chapter a bit on their Facebook page where an employee wrote, "It’s about twice the size of the one we just put out. O_O"

Responding to another fan asking for a release date, an Xseed representative wrote "Really happy you liked the game! [The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky] FC was big and SC is even bigger so everyone will have to be patient. Play Ys in the meantime? ;)"

After Second Chapter, there’s still has the conclusion to the Trails in the Sky trilogy to localize. Xseed has their work cutout for them not even counting the new Trails series running in Japan.

This at least confirms that they are working on it. I think that’s the real reason a lot of people are asking about it. They’ve kinda been sending mixed signals on it.

  • DanteJones

Well, glad to hear that it sounds like they are working on it! Really hope Zero no Kiseki makes it over here too. :D

    • Guest

And Y’s VS Legend of Heroes fighting game

      • PurpleDoom

A few people over at the forums pointed out that they would have to get out Trails In The Sky SC before that since it’s apparently loaded with spoilers.

      • DanteJones

Ooh yeah, that too! Gonna pray for the PSP market to last long enough for all these amazing games to come out, what with the NGP announcements and whatnot.

      • Ladius

Both Zero no Kiseki and Ys vs SnK Alternative Saga can be localized only if Trails the 3rd has been already translated, since the former is a direct sequel (even if it changes the cast and the setting) and the second is a spoiler-heavy crossover.

    • Ladius

      double post

  • Im happy with knowing it will be released eventually…

And im still waiting for my copy T_T

      • Ladius

Ahahaha, have a good ride man, Trails in the Sky is a gem :D

  • Well, SC is actually the “proper” conclusion to the main storyline, since FC and SC were originally one game. The Third is more of an expansion pack, of a sorts, and isn’t really related to the core story (although it does expand on the core cast a *lot*).

Anyway, here’s to hoping SC can make it over, it’s going to be a lot of work!

    • I like reading your comments. You always know what you’re talking about, very informative!

    • solbalmung

So umm, by expanding on the core cast do you mean that we’ll learn, see more about the characters? So can the Third Chapter be considered as an epilogue? Or is it simply an ad-on?

      • Sorry, I wasn’t too clear in phrasing that, perhaps. The Third does fill in a lot of the backstories of the playable cast (and some others) that FC and SC simply either didn’t have time to get to or wasn’t really relevant. It’s sort of a combination of epilogue and story expansion pack – playing it isn’t at all essential to enjoying the “core” story of Trails in the Sky, which wraps up at the end of SC, but it does provide greater insight into the characters.

It IS a game in its own right, though, it isn’t DLC that gets dropped into the “core” game or anything. A good analogy might be the Awakening expansion to Dragon Age Origin – strictly a game in its own right, but not really part of the main story and existing primarily to provide more insight to certain characters and the world.

        • solbalmung

Thanks for the explanation, I love Characters interactions and backstories in RPG’s. If I may ask you another question. Are the new LoH’s (Zero No kiseki and the upcoming Aoi) tied to Trails in the Sky or are they part of a new trilogy? Last question, as I’ve been watching loads of anime for about 8y now, I learned some words (even though I do know that anime isn’t the proper way to learn Japanese), doesn’t Kiseki in japanese mean “Miracle”?

          • Zero and Ao are parts of the Trails franchise, and a number of characters from Sky appear in Zero. The playable cast is all new, however, and strictly speaking you could play Zero by itself and have the game make perfect sense; it’s meant to be a new jumping-in-point to the franchise. That said, playing SC (and possibly Third) makes parts of the plot a lot more poignant. Ao, however, will be a direct sequel to Zero and likely won’t make as much sense without having played Zero.

As for “Kiseki”… you noticed, then. :) “Kiseki” is one of those words in Japan that has several different written meanings even though the various kanji are spoken the exact same way. The kanji used in the title in Japan explicitly spell out “Wagon Tracks”, which is usually shorted to “Trail” or “Path” to avoid being too prosaic. It is possible, however, to hear the title as “Miracle in the Sky” when it is spoken. This… gets kind of meaningful in SC, let’s say that much.

          • Kai2591

Thanks for asking. I’ve been curious too~

  • I think I speak for many of us: we’re just glad to hear that it is in queue.

  • Xeahnort

Speaking of the devil, I have to buy this game ASAP

BTW: Xseed should bring Ys Vs Legend of Heroes too. We already know both series and it´s much better than Dissidia: Final Fantasy.

    • Ladius

Problem is, that crossover is filled to the brim with spoilers for the Trails trilogy, so they already said that they will think about localizing it if and when they have released Trails the 3rd.

  • Draparde

i’m taking my time with FC for this very reason, i’ll beat it and be seething to play the second one instantly lol

  • So its coming? Is the first good enough for me to get? I was going to pose the question but Im in a rot with delays of games and no love for my PSP.

    • PurpleDoom

All three games were confirmed when the initial Falcom deal was announced. As for the game’s quality, I haven’t personally played it, but generally I hear it’s very good.

    • DanteJones

The game is amazing, its one of the better RPGs I’ve played in a while.

    • Ladius

Probably the best traditional jrpg this generation, do yourself a favor and buy it while the limited edition’s stocks lasts.

  • From what I’ve seen, it’s not so much impatience as it is worry over a comment XSEED themselves made (on RPGamer) about the issue with getting SC on the PSN. The fear is that because SC can’t be put to PSN (even Falcom couldn’t do it), it would not be released at all.

Frankly, I’d be willing to wait a year so long as we definitely get it.

    • Well, a lack of PSN release wouldn’t *kill* the game, it’d just restrict the game to physical sales… which would be a major challenge for a PSP game in 2012.

Of course, there’s always the PC to consider in Trails’ case, as well…

      • CleruTesh

I believe I heard that Sony would allow PSP games to be re-released on NGP media. Since the NGP is supposed to be backwards compatible; this could be a good option.
To be clear, I am not suggesting they port it, I am suggesting dd -i /dev/psp -o /dev/ngp

        • Yeah, but if the NGP really works on cards like people say it does, then… that presents problems all its own. Big ones, probably. Those cards are *expensive*, especially in lower print runs.

          • CleruTesh

Solid state memory has dropped dramatically the past few years. If it’s two UMD, that’s like, a 3-4 GB card. And the timeframe allows for another year of price drops. I think the only way it will be unaffordable is if Sony decides for it to be.

          • You’d… be surprised, really. Like I hate being vague like this but it isn’t quite as simple as you make it out to be. Unless Sony does something rather drastic, the carts are going to be a major challenge for smaller publishers.

          • bugmeknot

I’m hoping these problems won’t be too big. Nintendo has used carts for a while and they don’t seem to have any trouble getting all kinds of people to release games on their portable platforms.

      • endaround

Of course PSN might kill PSN if Sony doesn’t do something big by E3. Arcana Heart 3 has to have taken a huge hit.

        • Monetary compensation to the company, lower royalty payment, and more advertising space, quite sure those interesting in AH3 are patient.

Plus by the time this TitS:SC comes out consumer confidence in the PSN services would have surely been restored…

        • Well, the PSN in general, yeah :x There’s a question of how viable it will be in the long run now.

And Sawada, I wouldn’t be so sure of that. What’s happened to the PSN is the biggest digidistro security breach in history; it’ll sap consumer confidence in the PSN for a very, very long time.

          • Theres millions of users on it and I cant imagine people will forever lose confidence in a more secured PSN…surely people bought the systems first and foremost for games and will be willing to buy psn cards if they arent confident in supplying data?

Plus if we look at polls, http://www.industrygamers.com/news/playstation-users-sticking-with-sony-despite-psn-crisis-finds-poll-exclusive/

minimal effect of people not being confident in it

          • I honestly haven’t the slightest worry about the security breach.

If you shop online it’s a minor risk that you take, but it isn’t going to stop me from buying things online. Also, what proof do we actually have that says sony has substandard security protocols? Hackers just did the exact same thing to literally every online consumer company. Remember a few weeks ago every creditcard, online retailer and small business that uses the web was sending out emails saying “your information may have been compromised”

  • Wackoramaco87

Really glad to hear that they are working on it, can’t wait to get my hands on it! =D
Though this will most likely not happen, I would love the see the other two that are out in Japan. *fingers crossed*

  • Phoenix_Apollo

Take as long as you guys need, XSeed. Just know that I’ll still buy it when it’s done!

  • bugmeknot

Hmm, hmm, hmm (what’s the original meaning of that anyway?). I’m still on my first play through and it arrived only a few days after the official release date so I can wait.

  • evilmoogle

so the new “Tits” game have twice the size of the first “Tits”

    Sounds like double fun!

    • The bigger the “TiTS” the better the fun!!!

  • Zero_Destiny

Man it was a magical experience the first time I grabbed TiTS. I’ll never forget it, I knew at that moment that I was a man. :) Now XSeed is talking about even bigger and more Supple (right?) TiTS. Yes sir, I know I need it. OK. We’ll eagerly await for the next pair of TiTS to come out (There are 2 more after all).

    • I can’t help myself but to like these comments!! xD

    • PrinceHeir

      TiTs TiTs Tits?

oh did i mention TiTs? :D

      can’t wait for the 2nd game :)

    • DanteJones

Some people choose to view TiTS on their TV, but I like having TiTS up in my face, its a better experience overall ya’know?

Haha, sorry, had to do it once. ;)

      • No need for excuses, that’s how a man should always think!!

        • DanteJones

And I gotta say, every time I see your name I always think “DAIRAIOH!!!”.

          • Zero_Destiny

            You mean this: lol
It’s his name on Bounce. lol

          • DanteJones

Ahaha, that figures. XD Someone promote that man!

          • Yeah, what should I say, DaiRaiOh is my favorite mech ever!! :D

    • I know, right? I don’t care if it takes years. I’ll still eagerly and patiently await it.

  • vall03

looks like my previous prediction is coming true. We wont see SC until next year then Im definitely sure 3rd is around 2013. I want more Falcom games… and theres still Ys vs Sora no Kiseki, Zero no Kiseki and the upcoming Ao no Kiseki… *sigh*

  • Ladius

Trails in the Sky is a masterpiece, XSeed can have my money whenever they want and I will be sure to buy all the games they release in the meantime, since localizing SC will take a while.

I really hope jrpg fans give Trails in the Sky a chance, great reviews and word of mouth are helping it but I still feel that it lacks the recognition it deserves.

  • About 15 hours in and LOVING EVERY SECOND OF TitS

  • Volcynika

TitS is terrible. Don’t like it.

(Because after finishing it, I WANT THE NEXT GAME SO BAD AND I HAVE TO WAIT.)

  • Hours

Trails in the Sky is one of the best RPGs I’ve ever played, and I’ve played a lot of RPGs.

I fully support this series, and I can’t wait for Second Chapter, The 3rd, Zero no Kiseki & Ao no Kiseki!

    • neo_firenze

Xseed, know that I will buy any Falcom game you release. And I really really really want Zero no Kiseki and Ao no Kiseki!

  • XSEED + Falcom = The best thing that ever happened in video game world

  • NocturnNeko

    *takes deep breath* kyaaaaaaaaaaaaa~~~

  • Guess it’s time for me to buy the first chapter eh?

[edit – just bought it =/]

  • hopefully we will see zero no kiseki before 2013. o_0

  • Loving this game so far, I hope this game will help Falcom’s future in the western world, such a great company deserves more than a backlog of Japan only titles.

  • Kudoshinichi12

Just finished TitS today, an epic experience from beginning to end. I absolutely can’t wait for the Second Chapter. I’m on pins and needles wanting to know what happens next. XD

Since I first introduced myself to Ys, Falcom has never disappointed me. After TitS, they are now my favorite video game company and Xseed is my favorite video game publishing company for bringing these epic games over. Keep doing what you guys do, and you’ll keep getting my money without a second thought. :D

  • Joanna

I really need to pick this up. I’m hoping to make the LE my next purchase. :D

    • Joanna

Just wanted to say, I picked up the Premium Edition today and I am happy that the CD has 32 tracks. Thank you XSEED for giving fans more~
