The Bunny May Look Cute, But It Is A Deadly Enemy In Wizardry

By Spencer . May 6, 2011 . 11:27am

Looks can deceive dungeon explorers in Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls. Coins creep to life and stuffed rabbits can kill you. Introducing the Vorpal Bunny, one of the 120 monsters you’ll fight in the monster filled maze.

While dangerous, the Vorpal Bunny doesn’t hold a candle to the nine-headed hydra Kowloon. This fearsome boss regenerates making it a target for only seasoned warriors.

The Vampire Queen and Arcimboldo are two other tough monsters players waiting deep within the winding dungeon.

Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls is still on track for a spring release on PlayStation Network. Xseed confirmed they will release downloadable content, likely the content Acquire made for Japan, for Wizardry too following the game’s launch in North America.

  • Reminds me of another “cute” friggin twisted creature which makes contracts with sweet little girls just to **** them up when the time is right….

    • Yeah, the picture and description made me think of Kyubey as well.

  • Monty Python, anyone?

Hopefully my party will have a holy hand grenade.

The “looks cute but it’s dangerous” part reminded me of the Yan in FFIX. Absolutely cute, but it can beat the crap out of you if you’re not prepared.

  • Vorpal rabbits were monsters in the original Wizardry, made by SirTech over 20 years ago now. They were at the time almost certainly a reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

    We have come full circle.

If there is one thing Monty Python has taught me, it is to be wary of bunnies.

  • Has anyone played this one yet? The Japanese release, I meant. I haven’t played Wizardry since the oooold PC days, but I remember it being pretty tongue-in-cheek and I hope this one retains some of that.

I guess the presence of a Vorpal Bunny would indicate ‘yes’, though.

    • Ehh, kinda. It’s actually a fairly serious and dark game, but it has moments of ridiculousness every now and again.

It’s really not very tongue-in-cheek overall, though. In that sense, it matches the Wizardry legacy more from the gameplay side than from the story side.

The story IS quite good, though. Feels like a really well put-together D&D session. ;)

You just made me hyped for this.

I played the Japanese demo. I wasn’t that impressed. Especially since the Nintendo DS versions have smoother gameplay (that just doesn’t make sense to me). Also now that I’ve played Tales of the Last Promise (another 1st person dungeon crawler), I think they shoulda went with animated enemies.

Also I think they should just release the 1st and 2nd game together as a pack.

    Arcimboldo looks awesome.

This game deserves my money for something as simply epic as “vorpal bunny”.

  • They are to combated with Holy Hand Grenades!
