Dark Souls Collector’s Edition Coming In October, Same Price As A Standard Game

1Namco Bandai Games America confirmed Dark Souls and a Dark Souls Collector’s Edition will be released in October. Similar to the Stop Importing It edition of Demon’s Souls, the Dark Souls Collector’s Edition includes an art book, mini-strategy guidebook, the game’s soundtrack via a digital download, and a making of Dark Souls video in a metal case. The art book has illustrations of environments and characters.

If you’re planning to pick up the game at launch just go straight for the limited edition. The Dark Souls Collector’s Edition will retail for $59.99, the same price as a vanilla game.

In From Software’s second networked dark fantasy game, players will search for the Eternal Flame of Life before it burns out to dispel the curse of undead. That’s what plagues the main character and allows him to face hordes of monsters like the critter below without worrying about death.

It’s not like they’re asking you to shell out more money for those extras, so I don’t see why there is any need to complain.

The Atlus LE of Demon’s Souls also had what could be termed a “mini” strategy guide… that ended up being awesome and rather comprehensive, and didn’t cost $20 as a separate purchase. Wasn’t as long as a typical stand-alone guide, but that’s because there was no need for that. Here’s hoping for similar with Dark Souls.

And are digital downloads for music really that surprising these days? When’s the last time you went to the store to buy a new music CD? (for most people: it’s been a while) Even when I do get these soundrack CD LE/preorder bonuses, I end up ripping them and listening to them digitally anyway. So no real difference for me here.

      • Good points, but I rip CD tracks by myself — I like having control over the quality.

If “mini” means Atlus-style guide then no problem. That walkthrough was a lifesaver for me. They should have used a different qualifier though.

If you didn’t know Atlus wasn’t publishing this, the digital download soundtrack should spell it out. All kidding aside, it’s good they’re doing this, but I’d prefer releasing a full size strategy guide alongside the game. I’d rather buy that.

Isn’t this “special” edition for anyone who preorders only?

    • What what I read it is “free” for anyone who preorders. Otherwise it’s like 20 dollars more.

    • The Collector’s Edition will be available in stores at the same price as the regular edition. It’s unclear though how many copies Namco Bandai will print though.

Now I just need to figure out where I want to pre-order from.
