No Knights Or Mages In 7th Dragon 2020, Imageepoch’s Game Has Modern Jobs

By Spencer . May 12, 2011 . 4:10pm

Since 7th Dragon 2020 is set in future Tokyo, knights wearing full plate mail wouldn’t fit the setting. Imageepoch opted for a new list of jobs, which the character maker screen reveals. You can choose to be a Samurai, Destroyer, Psychic, Hacker or trap setting Trickster.

OK the idea of samurai walking around in present day may be a bit out of place, but the other classes sound modern. I look forward to seeing psychics battling alien dragons nine years in the future.

Sega will release 7th Dragon 2020 on PSP this fall.

  • Given the “modern” approach to this game, I’m expecting a “camper” class.

  • Pichi

Samurai better look modern and fit right in. I can understand the knight somewhat, but they easily change the mage to be more modern.

    • SetzerGabbiani

Samurai better be Hayato from Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

  • Well, they would need a melee job that uses swords and it’s set in Japan, so Samurai fits.

  • it looks like the samurai is the cutie in the sailor fuku. that sure fulfills the requirements for “samurai” in my book!

    • Ryos

As we all know, sailor fuku are the key part of bushido. You can’t have one without the other.

    • So we’re saying sailor in English and fuku in Japanese now?

Why not just say school uniform?
(I’m saying this as a Japanese major who graduated and lived in Japan for years).

      • Exkaiser

Alternatively, we could all say “seeraa fuku,” but that would be pretty stupid.

      • i’m not sure what the general consensus with our fellow comrades these days is, but sailor fuku is cute sounding, and makes me happy. which is usually enough for me at least hehe.

      • hahahahahhaha xD this must be funny for you xDD, i dont know why but your comment made me laugh so much xD

    • I’m pretty sure the Sailor school girl uniform is lightweight enough to be the modern-day version of the in-game’s samurai class.

I learned from my Japanese class and Deadliest Warrior that Samurai armor need to be light for mobility purposes.  Hence, the sailor school girl uniform for the Samurai class.

  • CleruTesh

    OK, that sounds epic.
    Reminds me of Shadowrun.
The warrior class was called Street Samurai in that game.
It was set in a cyberpunk future.
Hackers were also a key element (called Deckers)
That was my favourite pen & paper RPG of all time.
(the SNES/Genesis games were also OK, but the Xbox 360 game just butchered the license)
Anyways, take Shadowrun, mix with JRPG, show me a gothic lolita picture, and….
Yeah, I MUST have this game. Please tell me this will be localised.

    • Hraesvelgr

Sadly, I kind of doubt it.

  •  Hahaha! i knew the exploration graphic’s would be like that~

  • IsaacGravity

So the girl in school uniform was the samurai class. Kinda saw that coming (what, with all the “battle (school)girl” animes out there). Hmm… yeah they’re really going for the modern approach with this game with these classes. Gonna miss the total fantasy immersion.

But that said, The Psychic, Hacker and Destroyer class pretty much has my attention.

  • I hate it when these games don’t get localized (looking at the trend of the first…) that’s why Atlus should have gotten the property instead of Sega.  : (

  • Sakurazaki

When I read the article I was expecting something like : “Accountant” or “Social Worker”

    WTH was I thinking? Lol.

  •  I love this modern sequel more and more. <3

  • We also need a SWAT/Commando/modern soldier class! With weapon-based skills and attacks!:D

  • ‘Cyberpunk 2020’-flavored Street Samurai ?

  • meganeshounen

That picture all the way at the bottom… looks eerily like a shot of the “crossing” area in Shibuya. I’m also seeing the ruins of the 109 Building in the distance, I think.

Okay, maybe I’ve played too much The World Ends With You in my heyday…
