Disgaea For Android Update Adds Paid Items Plus Characters Like Laharl And Adell

dis5On May 26, Nippon Ichi will update Disgaea for Android, but before we get to that let’s look at some of the smartphone game’s features.

A Prinny is the protagonist of Disgaea for Android. These peg-legged penguins must atone for their crimes in the Netherworld and this game follows a Prinny’s (probably endless) journey through the Item World. A new feature is you can earn titles by progressing through the game and defeating bosses.

The next version of the game adds a Netherworld Catalog, a mail-order service players can use to expand the number of items they can hold, get items to escape the Item World, up the number of characters in your party, and add characters to your team.

The character maker lets players customize their team by making party members. You can also add cameo characters Laharl and Adell by purchasing them from the Netherworld Catalog. Nippon Ichi also plans to sell recovery items and cell phones to call temporary heroes, which you can use to save your party when they’re in a pinch. Prices for the items have not been announced.

Disgaea for Android’s base pack is available now for smartphones using Android OS 2.1 or higher.

Damn. I installed the GMO GameCenter application, found Disgaea and I get ” Milestone “. Then the ‘install button’ reads ‘Uninstallable’ (there’s a surprising amount of English UI strings in this program). So, I guess the error message was that the game doesn’t support the Milestone.

Screw you, GMO, just give me the game and I’ll decide if it doesn’t work or not.

I can tell you though, the game is 53MB. I hope to God that installs to the SD card by default. If not, I’ll fly over to NIS Headquarters and punch the project manager in the throat.

I can’t find this game anywhere on the Market… is it for Japan only?

      • Kirbysuperstar2

        It’s not on the market.

      •  Sadly, so far it’s japan only :(

Not keen on pay to play microtransactions myself, but if it funds NIS enough to make more proper games then it’s all good

    • malek86

Ideally, wouldn’t that fund more pay-to-play games?

It’s like the Resident Evil thing on the Wii: people somehow assumed that buying a rail shooter would give them a proper game… no, it gave them another rail shooter. And when you think about it, it makes sense that way.

      • Maybe I want more rail shooters.

        • malek86

          Not like UC, no sir.

      • NetscapePizza

Yeah that is kinda my worry.

Like how the TF2 weapon and hat store didn’t help fund more games, it just made sure there was a crappy store in Portal 2 with loads of content in it on day 1

  • This is on Android now?

  • I’d still play it.

  • “Nippon Ichi also plans to sell recovery items”

Joke game nothing to see here

Sadly I have to agree with you there. While I’ll probably never understand NIS love for DLC (especially since some of it could have been added to the game in the first place) this is a free game so I can kind of understand why they would want to make a little profit on selling popular characters for a small price. However charging money for healing items of all things is taking this DLC obsession a bit too far.

    •  Watch them be 10 yen like that one DLC back with Prinny…

I got GMO GameCenter installed but it just crashes every time I try to open it on my Droid, guess I won’t be playing this :(

  • Any ideas on translation efforts that may/may not happen by a certain NISA?

  • i wish this would come to america.

    •  Get on this NISA!

  • VisualData

Why all the buzz. Its only out in Japan……

From what I read, this is Japan “only”.  The article makes it sound like anyone with a android smartphone can get it.  I know the game is in Japanese, duh. However, the fan fare on Siliconera made it sound like anyone can get it. “Disgaea for Android’s base pack is available now for smartphones using Android OS 2.1 or higher.”

I was on the XDA developers forum reading about the program.  The only way to install it is to have a rooted phone and change its “appearance.”  The Gamecenter will run and install Disgaea after that.  Sorry, I should have bookmarked the address.  There was talk of fan translating it.  Do not know if anything will become of it. Would be nice if NISA offered an English version of it or even an iOS version. Disgaea on the Ipad would be awesome.
