By Spencer . May 16, 2011 . 1:26pm

RFTOD LogoAs many of you guessed, the "highly anticipated" PlayStation 3 and Wii game from Natsume is… Rune Factory: Oceans! Siliconera can exclusively confirm that’s the case because Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny is on its way to North America.

“We know our loyal fans have been patiently awaiting news of a North American release for Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny, so we are thrilled to announce that the latest entry in the fan-favorite series is on its way. Better still, this entry is coming to both the Wii and PlayStation 3,” said Hiro Maekawa, President and CEO of Natsume. “Featuring a vast region to explore, a wonderful cast of characters, and a huge variety of activities to enjoy, Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny is sure to make waves!”

Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny follows Aden and Sonja two islanders from Fenith Island who find their home has mysteriously changed. With the help of the island moving golem Ymir, these two heroes will travel the seas, battle monsters, and grow crops. Did we mention their souls are trapped inside the same body? If you didn’t know that check out our Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny interview with producer Yoshifumi Hashimoto.

Natsume plans to release Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny on PlayStation 3 and Wii later this year, after the game makes a debut at E3.

“Better still, this entry is coming to both the Wii and PlayStation 3”

Somehow, I can’t help but sense a swipe at Namco.

    • raikage

Yeah, I also thought of Namco when I read it (Graces Wii).
I’m relieved that the Wii version of Oceans is on it’s way.

    • lostinblue

      Namco deserved that swipe.

I’ll buy the Wii version, and cheers to see the PS3 version coming along with it too, the more the merrier.

Be sure to buy it guys, if it’s anything like Frontier on the Wii… It’s one of the best games this gen.

      • puchinri

        Agreed 100%.

      • Don’t need to tell me twice! ^o^

I didn’t expect them to change the name though. Not that this is a big change, or that I mind, but America could use a little less of the habit of “obligatory” tinkering with the titles and covers. Each culture has its way of presentation; they should try to adjust to other cultures once in a while.

    • HarryHodd

      Natsume knows thier audience.

  • Barrit

Yes!!! Mondays usually suck, but this news just made it a whole lot better :)

  • AQuatermain

I waited a long this announcement.  The Wii version will be mine :3

  • HarryHodd

    Ohh yes! Day one!

    • Guest

       wait that Tsuna’s line…

      • HE’s RP’ing me for a day!

        • HarryHodd

          Who wouldn’t want your enthusiasm.

      • HarryHodd

It’s the first thing that came out. So I typed it. Props to Tsuna for coining the phrase. lol

      • Go to Atlus forum and you will see a legion of tsunas then

  •  Excellent news, nice to get a game of this type on the PS3.

  • So hyped!!!

  • I’m so buying the Wii version, will go well next to Frontier. Rather considerate of them if both versions are near identical.

    • HarryHodd

It’s nice the PS3 version has motion controls.

      • Ryos

I’d be surprised if they were nearly identical.  Regardless of how close they may be, not having to flail around a nunchuck for a hundred hours makes me want to go for the PS3 version.  It’s good news for either system owner though.

        • malek86

Why did they take out CC support, anyway? Frontiers had it. Maybe not many people would have used it, but since they still needed to map the controls for the PS3 version…

          • Yeah that’s odd, not a big deal to me though.  Are there any control changes from Frontier?

          • lostinblue

            They took it off? :(

I played Frontier with CC, it’s not a big deal (I first tried it with the Wiimote and well… it sure worked) but I fully intended to play it with a CC again.

      • lostinblue

I play Frontier with a Classic Controller, unless this one has anything extra in that regard I’ll play it the same way. Support for motion control on the PS3 version is probably just there because on the Wii the Wiimote+nunchuck is the standard “controller” (hence, they had the mapping essentially done)

It’s not the kind of game that benefits from Wiimote/PSMove, IMO, and good thing they didn’t force them on Frontier (motion controls, that is, the whole wiimote scheme didn’t depend on motions, you could do everything with buttons, which was apreciated)

        • HarryHodd

Oh I plan to play with a DS3. It’s just nice they included them for people that want that.

  • Kitsune Miku

Brilliant news! Im a huge RF fan! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for an EU release, but if not, then I’ll import! :DBrilliant news! Im a huge RF fan! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for an EU release, but if not, then I’ll import! :D

  • Zero_Destiny

I’m happy. :D The thing that really makes me ecstatic is that it’s on both the Wii and PS3. Now I just have to figure out which version to get. ^_^ The two bodies one soul thing still reminds me a bit of Birdy the Mighty. lol Wonder how that’s gonna work.

I like the name changing (or other translations/way to romanize I can’t tell. lol) so far. Azel -> Aden sounds cooler and I’m fine with Sonia -> Sonjia. ^_^ Tides of Destiny sounds cool to me. Is this still gonna be Harvest Moon though? The logo only has Rune Factory. @[email protected] Are they gonna separate the two brands in the US now? Can’t wait to have it.

    Love the Opening songs. ^_^

    • more Trophies to whore. PS3.

    • puchinri

Lol, it is a bit like Birdy, isn’t it? A Birdy inspired game would be awesome. Although it’d be better if it was based on the original Birdy…

    • Since RF2 (if i remember correctly) natsume/marvelous or w/e separated the rune factory series from the harvest moon series, so they are now independ from each other, baka

      • Zero_Destiny

lol Remember though we’re talking about “Natsume’s Delusional Title” I’m commenting on how there’s no A Fantasy Harvest Moon to be found in this American Title. Maybe it’ll be separated now or something here in the US.

    • jj984jj

From the sounds of it they completely streamlined and automated farming in this game, so putting Harvest Moon in the title wouldn’t make sense.

  • Roanoke834

I kinda liked Oceans better, mainly just cause it matched Frontier. Kinda had a theme going. Oh well, I don’t see the name impacting the games enjoyment at all XD

  • Yesshua

Rune Factory has always looked interesting, but I’ve never gone in and bought one.  With some good publicity and reviews this might be the one I take the plunge on.

  • Importing this =D

  • kroufonz

    hype hype hype
now just don’t forget to include japanese voice and it will be day one buy!

    • FireCouch

I feel like this is one of those games where you shouldn’t get your hopes up for Japanese voice acting.

    • Kai2591

       That makes two of us.

I really hope they add Japanese voices too~
I know they usually do good English dubs though, but i just prefer Japanese :)

      • HarryHodd

        Three of us

        • puchinri

Make it four~. I could be really hopeful about the voices if Xseed was handling it, but I don’t know what to expect from Natsume.

  • Bwahaha! Yes! It seems like one great game after the other is being announced! I know I’m adding this to my “must buy” list!

  • Super exciting! But the Name change… Why couldn’t they just keep things consistent >__<

I'm picking up probably both versions, so I can play one while the wife plays the other.

    • puchinri

Lol, their name changes to the titles and characters never make sense to me half the time. x’);   (ToT / AP had it really weird.)

That’s really cool~. Do you guys also tend to compare how your games are going?

      •  All the time.  lately she’s been playing RF: Frontier and I’ve been trudging along in RF 3, but we definitely have different play styles and focuses.

  • DanteJones

This AND Atelier Totori announced one right after the other?? Holy crap! This is gonna be one helluva year. o_0

  • Klarktastic

How god, I don’t think I’ve got time to play everything that is coming out this year, I’ve got a job you know?

  • puchinri

I wonder what random name changes we’ll get this time. Or do they usually keep the names in RF? I guess I’ll see if I can preorder the Wii version soon~.

  • color me death,

    I AM

    PS3 VER. O_O

  • Food? Water? Electricity? What the heck are those? Obviously, video games are at a higher priority. ;_;

  • Natat

I’m so happy right now :D
I’ll buy the PS3 version for sure.

  • I’ve already set aside money for this. Thanks, Natsume.

  • Hearing about this made my day three times better. Pre-ordering the PS3 version as soon as possible.

  • Ladius

Day one, I hope they don’t screw up with the English dub though (RF2’s dub was horrible).

  • PrinceHeir

now i can has mah swimsuit mode and maid mode :P

  • I can’t express how happy I am!
Thanks Silionera for putting the smile back on my face after that horrible exam I did yesterday.
Personally I prefer the Japanese names but that’s not a problem since I can name them whatever I want.

  • Sal

Stupid question time: Can I use the Dualshock 3 controller for the ps3 version, or do I have to use the Move?

    • HarryHodd

      It supports both.

      • Sal

         Great! I’ll buy it!

  • Ravage27

This will be my first Rune Factory game, can’t wait!

  • And I thought I wasn’t gonna spend money on video games this year. oh Natsume.

  •  CANT WAIT :DDD!!!!

  • Allerina

What the hell, why did they need to change a pretty good name already in english(Rune Factory Oceans)?
Nope, I don’t need such a localization. Gotta stick with the japanese version, it’s better anyway.

  • Xander R

    What the?

SONJA is her name in the English release? seriously?!

    SONIA sounds more ENGLISH
    SONJA sounds more JAPANESE

    Why change it?!

They got Azel to Aden right. but seriously…c’mon.

    • Sonja is hardly more Japanese.
Sonia and Sonja are both the same name, and are both pronounced in the exact same way. Sonja is just the German/Scandinavian spelling of it (not Japanese).
If it were Japanese, it would be pronounced Son-jah, rather than its actual pronunciation of Son-yah.
