7th Dragon 2020 Turns Shibuya From Trendy City To Trendy Dungeon

Imageepoch’s sequel to 7th Dragon takes place in the not-so-distant future where Tokyo is overrun with deadly flowers. Shibuya’s famous scramble crossing (shown in contrast with The World Ends With You) is part of a dungeon in 7th Dragon 2020.

Rieko Kodama, producer, says they prepared dungeons based for the PSP game based on different areas of Tokyo, which she plans to share at a later date. Just like the previous game, players design a party – made of modern jobs like hacker and psychic. All of the characters are part of the Murakumo, a group focused on defeating dragons, that came from outerspace.

The Flowaro corrupted animals and turned ordinary rabbits to monsters. In the Nintendo DS game, 7th Dragon, stepping on Flowaro would damage your party. This time trampling on Flowaro, Kodama says, won’t damage your party.

7th Dragon 2020 is slated for a fall release on PSP.

Fighting in Tokyo areas? So this is gonna be somewhat like SMT! Well, except for the whole jungle thing.

    • CleruTesh

While SMT may have pioneered the field, it is great to see more RPGs using modern urban environments. They definitely assist the suspension of disbelief. When going back to more traditional fantasy settings recently, I find it difficult to become fully immersed. Final Fantasy Versus 13 looks promising.

Confirmed for prequel to Etrian Odyssey, then.

EDIT: Oh, wait, that was Shinjuku, not Shibuya. Carry on, then.

    •  Theoretically it could look the same as the condition Shinjuku was in.

      • They’re using the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building as their base, which is (the same building as in EO) in Shinjuku :V

        • Exkaiser

So, the end of this game will be a bad end in which the their base gets overrun by the plants, eventually leading up to what is Lost Shinjuku in Etrian Odyssey.

We’ve got this all figured out.

          • … or Tokyo in the first 7th Dragon.

    This game looks sweet

  • Somehow, my vision of an in-game camper class makes more and more sense.

    • CleruTesh

What exactly are we talking about here? Someone who sits in the woods fishing and using leaves in place of sanitary tissue, or the more urban variety lounging in front of game store and movie theatres?

      • Specifically, a gun-based class that hides on the back row of the player party or an enemy-exclusive class that can OHKO you.

  • The bottom screenshot… in the middle.

    Even in the future, FOE.

Mannn, I’m still a bit bummed that we never got the DS game. I hope we at least get the PSP one. T__T
