Dragon Quest Replica Treasure Chest Costs A Small Fortune

treasureThis year is the 25th anniversary of Dragon Quest and Square Enix is celebrating with limited edition goods for diehard fans. One of these is a replica pirate treasure chest.

The original item went on sale over 20 years ago in 1988. Square Enix is selling a reissue which they call Dragon Quest treasure chest returns. The wood box is 90 cm x 60 cm x 60 cm; 1:1 scale of an actual chest you could find in a dungeon.

How much does it cost? 365,400 yen after tax or $4,470. Mini-medals sold separately.

That’s more than a 1:1 scale model of Roto’s mark (10,500 yen / $128), Roto’s legendary helmet (13,400 yen / $164), and the Happy Birthday Slime (8,925 yen / $109).

  • Somehow, I feel obliged to compare this to the KISS KASKET, in terms of hype and rarity.

    • I had to look that up and oh woooow

Though the casket isn’t a limited edition item, so the chest will probably end up being rarer.

      • As for the KASKET, surprisingly, it also got re-released this year with a G2, similar to how this replica treasure chest just got made for the Silver Anniversary of the franchise.

But yeah, the KISS KASKET is the closest thing I can think of comparing with the replica treasure chest, since in both KISS & DQ’s respective fanbases, they’re worth quite a fortune.

    This is Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    All I can say is:
Hello there Emblem of Roto. We met again.

  • PrinceHeir

    wow just wow O_O

  • Dang, I could use that treasure chest to keep my favorite games safe but my wallet cant handle such a high level price.
If that helmet actually fits, I’ll farm money to get it since my cloth head gear is not as cool.
