Super Famicom Squaresoft RPG Treasure Of Rudra Spellbound For Virtual Console

By Spencer . May 26, 2011 . 4:05pm

Mankind is about the be destroyed, it’s part of the circle of life established by Rudra. The event happens every 4,000 years and only 15 days are left before all of life is extinguished in Treasure of Rudra.

While this game may look like a Final Fantasy title, Treasure of Rudra uses a magic system where you string together words to create spells. It’s sort of like the system Nippon Ichi used for their Bikkuriman game, but predates the 3DS game by over 15 years.

In June, Square Enix will re-release Treasure of Rudra as a Virtual Console download in Japan. Other titles scheduled for the month include:

Super Adventure Island (Super Famicom)

Joy Joy Kid (NeoGeo)

Kizuna Encounter: Super Tag Battle (NeoGeo)

Puyo Puyo Tsuu (Arcade)

Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Arcade)

  • I highly recommend that people try this since there is a translation out

  • Those sprites are Gorgeous !
hey nintendo ? translate this and bring it to the rest of the world please !

    • Exkaiser

It really isn’t worth it for them.

You should just play the fan-translation.

    • Not up to Nintendo though.

    • They should from a “hey, it would be really cool if they did that” sense.

Not from a monetary sense, though, unfortunately.

  •  Surprise.

Gotta wonder when Seiken Densetsu 3 will pop up… anywhere.

    • it’s lost for NA do to short fanage in the states ; ;

    • Live a Live too… perhaps both of these are in remake land so we won’t see VC versions.

  • I used to play this game when I was young.  One of the best titles on the Super Famicom that was never localized.  It’s a dark-theme rpg with a bunch of creepy looking bosses and awesome music.  It’s up there with Seikon Densetsu 3 in my books.

  • Square Enix is trying everything…

  • Treasure of Rudra is amazing :D!

  • Oh yea I remember that game and the double-translation AGTP did of it.

And I also remember the magic system because you could cast BOOBIES and deal damage.

    Good times…

  • Beautiful soundtrack in this game.

  • Treasure of Rudra looks like a good game, how come Square never brought it state side? Looks like I’ll have to look up he fan translation.

    • there is! a fan translation. just seiken like densetsu 3. both translated in 2000 and same gose for bahamut lagoon.

  • another game i am mad that SE didnt bring to the states but there’s a english rom for those who want to play it. am kinda glad i import this in the era of SNES.

hope they would remake this for psp and bring it to the states!

  • It’s also one of the first ever games you can create your own spells.  If only RPG these days are half as good. -_-

  • PrinceHeir

    oh japan soo lucky!!!!!
