There’s A Little Bit Of Ikaruga In Radiant Silvergun

By Spencer . May 26, 2011 . 12:39pm

rsAnd we’re not saying that just because Treasure developed both games. Radiant Silvergun for Xbox 360 has a secret bonus – Ikaruga shooting style mode. Specific details about this mode were not announced. Ikaruga uses a clever polarity mechanic where you switch between light and dark. Only bullets of the opposite polarity can destroy your ship.

Radiant Silvergun has been upgraded with HD graphics and Dolby 5.1 surround sound. For the sake of nostalgia, you can switch to the original graphics. This port is based on the Sega Saturn version, which has a story mode. Treasure also included the original arcade release too.

Microsoft has not announced a date for Radiant Silvergun, but since they’re talking about it again we should see the game pop up on Xbox Live Arcade sooner rather than later. Radiant Silvergun will cost 1,200 Microsoft Points ($15).

Dammit Treasure, release both Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga on PSN… I don’t want to shell out for a 360 since there’s so few games I actually want for it.

You like Radiant Silvergun but wouldn’t like the 20-30 other shmups available on the console?

      • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

They readily available in the U.S. market?

Maybe not 30, but there are definitely enough to justify a new console purchase.

It’s always the same thing on here whenever a shmup is covered on Siliconera. I don’t get it. If you like this kind of game, then I don’t know why you wouldn’t have picked up a 360 a long time ago.

I’m not even a huge shmup fan and have still ended up picking 3 up this past year alone.

Not all shmups appeal to all people.

The best route is to buy a J360 since 99% of US 360 games are region-free where as 75% of Japanese ones are region locked. you can’t really go wrong with cave, treasure, or g.rev shmups. mushihimesama futari ver. 1.5, dodonpachi doj blex, dodonpachi dfk, dodonpachi dfk bl, muchi muchi pork/pink sweets, espgaluda II, guwange, deathsmiles, deathsmiles iix, ketsui, akai katana, radirgy noa massive, mamoru-kun, bangai-o hd, ikaruga, strania, and soon radiant silvergun.

those are some of the good ones (there’s definitely others) but there are some bad ones that you would want to avoid like bullet soul. regardless, if you’re into the genre, 360 is where the niche is at. If you’re not that big of a fan then it’s obviously not worth shelling out the cash for. There’s always the possibility that they could be ported (like mamoru-kun) but I wouldn’t hold my breath. At least there’s donpachi and dodonpachi PS1 classics on JPN PSN.

            will look into those :D

Well, Microsoft’s job is to make you want to buy a 360, so… maybe it’s working?

I still wouldn’t get one though.

I want to play this already. I only remember playing it on the arcades a few times as a kid. I got Ikaruga a few years ago and enjoyed it very much so I hope it will be the same with this one.
From what I hear it looks like it will be just as fun.

Wasn’t this announced in the trailer a really long time ago?
