Check Out An M vs. Ria Phantom Breaker Intermediate Play Video

By Laura . June 3, 2011 . 1:45pm

Today is June 3rd, which means Phantom Breaker released in Japan earlier in the week. 5pb also had a new demo scheduled to go up on the Japanese Xbox Live. Famitsu put a few new videos of the game up this week, with the notable difference being that these are recording of intermediate-level players. Here’s one of M vs. Ria:

See the “Quick” and “Hard” options? Those are the two styles fighters use. The Quick style is more focused on dodging, while Hard emphasizes blocking. Phantom Breaker has three main attacks: weak, medium and strong. By using smart timing, you can also use attacks that repel the enemy’s attack or interrupt their combos.

You can use the Burst Gauge to activate three different special attacks. Overburst allows you to either stop the opponent in their tracks and pummel them to the ground, or to gain temporary invincibility so you can strike at the opponent to your heart’s content, depending on the style you use (Quick or Hard). You also have the ultimate attack — Critical Burst — that absolutely decimates your opponent’s HP.

You can view the other two intermediate play videos over at Famitsu. They’re of Ren vs. Cocoa and Waka vs. Cocoa.

    I’m not expecting high sales for this one.

      who is? [I mean, looking at the charts, barely anything is these days...]
      though it would be nice if they at least broke even, and give it a shot again in the future, since surely they’d have learned a lot by then.

    So the game is still slow and boring even at a high level?  Got it.

    Nothing they’ve demonstrated from this game has resembled anything but intermediate play. :/  Kinda a waste of some nice character designs.

    I kinda like the character art better than AH3.  The nice and tidy gameplay systems of AH3 leave me no reason to give this game the time of day however.

    graphics are nice but the game looks terrible

    So…the Quick style player blocks alot?

    MKAY.

      It’s true, I didn’t see *that* much dodging. :/ Maybe there’s some kind of other perk?

    I like the music and look of the game. Too bad it’s just on xbox. ;u;
    And a character is voiced by Nana Mizuki… What a cruel world.

    The background looks really bland.I’m more pumped for AquaPazza because that one look miles better and the gameplay for AquaPazza seems to be more interesting too.

    • Code

      Yeah I had tried the demo of this mostly out of boredom, just wasn’t impressed at all, the game really is just as stiff and bland as it looks xpx;

    The original Guilty Gear plays smoother than this.

    And that was designed by approximately one person.

    Still feels like im watching an outdated Turn based rpg.

  • Darkrise

    A shame… The characters really well designed too but the gameplay is still just as stiff and boring. I don’t really know why they even bothered taking down and re-uploading the demo seeing as nothing has changed.

    The weapon clashes at 2:01, 2:02, and 2:03 looked really cool. It’s just a shame that not much else did. :(

  • superdry

    It’s like 5pb decided to make a fighter from the 16-bit days.

    • mikanko

      Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighters is offended by the comparison.

        So is Gundam Wing Endless Waltz

  • PrinceHeir

    amazing :D

    though too bad i doubt they’ll bring this outside of japan :

    10 years of beu say “HI!”..
    This may look remotely nice, but the game feels slow borderline sluggish compared to new production :/
    Guess i’ll pass till they make some improvement..
