Deathsmiles Will Fly To iPhone With A Whole New Mode And Character

By Ishaan . June 14, 2011 . 12:16pm

Next up for the iPhone from Cave is Deathsmiles. Cave didn’t just port the game over, though — in addition to Arcade Mode, they gave it a new mode with a new character, too, called the “iPhone Mode”. iPhone Mode is aimed at both those who are new to the game, as well as those who have seen everything the console version of Deathsmiles has to offer.

iPhone Mode stars a character named Tiara, princess of Gilverado. Cave say she dotes on her subjects and friends, but is ice-cold to those that threaten her kingdom. In iPhone Mode, she takes on an evil witch  coven.

You can power Princess Tiara up with items either dropped by enemies or bought at Sakura’s Shop within the game.

iPhone Mode’s scenario and character designs are handled by manga-ka Yukinatsu Mori. Mori based his style for the game on original character designs by Deathsmiles series illustrator, Junya Inoue. The mode will have brand new music composed by Takeshi Miyamoto (Muchi Muchi Pork, Pink Sweets).

Practice mode is in Deathsmiles for iPhone as well. Cave haven’t provided a release date for the game yet, but say they’ll announce one soon. In the mean time, you can watch a promo video for the game above.

Hey, if I’m gonna pay the price you darn well better believe I’m gonna play with you!

    Okay, bad jokes aside…
I’ve been enjoying Cave games on my iOS device (Mushihimesama: Bug Panic, DoDonPachi and Espgaluda II) and I’ll probably pick this up as well.

  • I want this game on the 3DS.

…no, scratch that. I /need/ to be able to play this game on my 3DS.
    Danmaku + Gothic Lolita? /Yes please/. <3

They better add more stuff if it will be on 3DS. 3DS games are probably going to be at least 30 bucks. The iPhone version is probably going to be 20 dollar max, most likely it will be 10-15 dollars.

  • HarryHodd

Nice! My iPhone continues to be my handheld gaming device.

  • I’m looking forward to seeing Mori’s take on the other Deathsmiles girls.

Looks like Rachael Alucard… would’ve preferred Inoue’s art though for the series’s consistent style..

No iPhones/iPod touch… guess there’s no chance this would be DLC for the 360 ver like BlazBlue’s Platinum on the 3DS huh :(?

      •  We can only hope… I’d buy it day 1 if so…

“The mode will have brand new music composed by Takeshi Miyamoto (Muchi Muchi Pork, Pink Sweets).”  This is what I’m really interested in.  The track in the trailer sounds pretty cool, and Cave has a lot to live up to with the insanity of the Daifukkatsu iPod arrange soundtrack.

Not so sure how I feel about translating the game to iOS though – cramming digital buttons for four different shots (left and right versions of weak and strong shots) plus bombs on a small touchscreen with no buttons, just seems like it’s not the best fit. I’ll still buy the thing, but I’m more skeptical than I would have been of, say, Mushihimesama Futari.  Maybe they’ll prove me wrong, Espgaluda II and Daifukkatsu turned out well… but I’m not getting overly excited.

Soooo excited. I’m looking forwards to the new OST and character. We didn’t really get the drama CD [where she’s from IIRC] so…yay! It’s nice to see CAVE working so hard to make this a viable purchase for those who have already played the original to hell and back. [heehee. Hell puns. In a game featuring the underworld. Oh, so witty.]

  • Darkrise

Wish this could be ported to consoles… Or handheld of any-kind.

    • AzureNova

Darkrise……… The iPhone is a handheld of any-kind lol

      • Darkrise

Other than iPhone. Or iPad if you’re bringing that in too. Not even the ipodTouch.

  • AzureNova

WOW O_O, that trailer was epic in every way, visuals and music were awesome. “Play with me or pay the price”, I’m lovin our new Princess already lol

  • Sure hope she winds up as DLC! Otherwise guess we’ll have to wait for DSIII

  • heartless141

AANNNNDD it’s not gonna be compatible with my iPod touch 2nd Gen.

  • JustaGenericUser

I would love for DeathSmiles to get ported to PS3/PSN one of these days. It looks too good to never play.
