Grasshopper Manufacture and Namco Bandai are working on their first game since Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked. Rebuild of Evangelion: Sound Impact or "3nd Impact" has something in common too. Music is a key element in both games. Led

What did you just watch? The six games in Rebuild of Evangelion: 3nd Impact. In Apostle Session you attack apostles by hitting notes to the beat. Hex shows images of popular characters from the Evangelion series. Famitsu notes Number 5/Beastie Girl has movies with 3D graphics. Other games have players break through an AT field and retreat from a battle.

Rebuild of Evangelion: 3nd Impact has two special packages. Soundtrack Edition includes the game and a soundtrack CD bundled in a special sleeve for 8,380 yen ($104).

The limited edition also includes a t-shirt and earbud headphones made by Audio Technica. This rings in for 11,530 yen ($143).

Namco Bandai also has a standalone game for 6,280 yen ($78). Rebuild of Evangelion: 3nd Impact is slated for release on September 29.

  • Oh Lord, why is it so tough to create a regular Evangelion game? I’d write a blank check for one.

    • Please define “regular”.

    • Aoshi00

I know.. though this is slightly than pachinko.. I think the last EVA “game” was the fighter Battle Orchestra.. but before it was just VNs like Girlfriend of Steel and such..

I liked the new movies, but not that good at rhythm games, will definitely need to wait for reviews..

      • I still need some definite explanation on how the Rhythm-action game plays, I still haven’t seen any action so far, though maybe my definition of action is wrong.

        • Aoshi00

yea, still no idea how this would work or if it’d be fun.. maybe like Miku you time btn presses to the beat? well, at least we know there’ll be Cruel Angel’s Thesis :)  there should be right…  at least better than pachinko to me lol..

          • Lol, agreed. Anythings better than another pachinko game, maybe I cling too much on the thought of a basic action Rebuild of EVA game, but I’ll give this game it’s rightful chance before deciding on anything, also yeah Cruel Angel’s Thesis makes it almost great again, lol~

          • The only songs I can remember from Eva are Cruel Angel’s Thesis, Fly Me To The Moon, Tsubasa o kudasai and the song they play when Asuka and Shinji tries to synchronise. This will probably have less songs than K-ON Houkago Live

There was a Lupin the Third game for PS1 called Punch the Monkey. And a BECK PS2 game

          Parappa The Rapper

      • Guest

        Evangelion Jo

        • [The Hunter] Doomrider

          Is it any good?

          • Guest

Its ok but can get frustrating at parts in terms of navigating through menus due to language barrier. And the character interaction is kinda like a dumbed down version of the PSP/PS2 Evangelions Sim like game

VVV The action game play is a third person shooter remniscent of Resistance Retribution with strafing, rolling and use of melee (knife) attacks which are followed up at times with QTE events close up. Certain beacons on the map can be setup in advance before a battle for weapon and item power ups.
Story scenes are segmented yes and the field camera to navigate Shinji is semi fixed with closed off small areas to explore and talk to NPC’s.

          • [The Hunter] Doomrider

            How is the action gameplay?

It’s not like I have any money to import right now but I’m kinda curious. It looked pretty good, if a little… Segmented?

        • Aoshi00

That’s cool, I just found this trailer..  I never played it, somehow I only remembered the Battle Orchestra fighting game since every time they announced an EVA game it’s pachinko.. I guess by the time this game was out in 2009 I stopped playing my PS2 long ago.. and the new Misato news report thing on PS3 using a simulated voice..  would be nice if they make a game like Jo in HD since I would like to play thru the story like in the TV series.  It’s funny they called it Jo, but it seems like it’s based on the TV series instead…

  • Exkaiser

3nd Impact, San-nd Impact? I guesssss it sounds a tiny bit like “sound.”

    • glemtvapen

      Ohhh, now I get it.

And here I thought this is one of those engrish typo spellings.

    • Zonic505

I was thinking the same thing. Guess it could be a pun.

  • Do I get to rock out to “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis” too?

    • I hope we’d also get:

Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring (JSB)
      Hallelujah (Haendel)
      Ode to Joy (Beethoven)

in the final song list, alongside “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis”.

  • zweii

    3nd Impact?

    Treccend or Trek-kend?

    • kupomogli

They changed it.  It’s 1rd, 2st, and 3nd now.  You’re behind the times man. Or maybe what Exkaiser said :P.

    • It’s “thend”.

  • Crimson_Cloud

I’m sensing a similarity with a game Fate/Extra. What kind you ask? A topic stuck in various forums where we beg companies for localization.

  • Audio Technica headphones are always good, but the earbuds… Hmmm.

  • That box art man. Damn always basic and awesome like the Eva DVD’s

  • Reminds me of those crappy Make My Own Video games for the Sega CD. I don’t like what I’m seeing.

  • PrinceHeir

pretty surprising suda and his team is working on this ^^

  • The pachinko games had non-canonical events of Kaworu pawning things.

Does 3nd Impact have this as well?

Also, hahah, so punny, you name you.

  • Covnam

Wow, that’s pretty expensive for even just the game. Isn’t that around the same price as most new console games in japan?
