Makai Kingdom Portable Bound For PSP With Disgaea 4 Cameos

By Spencer . June 28, 2011 . 12:26am

makaiIn September, you can take Lord Zetta’s badass attitude with you. Makai Kingdom: Chronicles of the Sacred Tome or Phantom Kingdom as its known in Japan is coming to PSP.

Announced in Dengeki PlayStation, Makai Kingdom Portable, like most Nippon Ichi developed ports, has extra content. Extra characters and new scenarios are included in this version of the game. Two confirmed cameos are from Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten. Valvatorez, the tyrant vampire and protagonist of Disgaea 4, and Fenrich are playable along with a mystery character teased by the magazine.

Makai Kingdom Portable is slated for release on September 22. First run copies include reprints of an art book and soundtrack CD from the PS2 version.

  • Rejoice! The SRPG gods are smiling upon us, people!

  • I’m really hoping this one will actually get localized unlike La Pucelle: Ragnarok.  Makai Kingdom was a great (albeit very flawed) game, and a portable enhancement would do it a lot of good. Also, Crispin Freeman’s Zetta is the best VA EVER.

:( And I bought the PS2 version because I thought it would never happen.

  • I literally keyboard mashed when I saw the tweet for this.

And also nearly spit out my drink.

I approve of this heavily, especially with the new scenarios inbound. Now to wait for a localization notice, and I’ll be pre-ordering this immediately.

  • Code

Ahaha, this is the most BADASS port in the entire goddamn universe +o+~!! Seriously, day one, no questions, all sales final.

  • Oh my! ♥
    What wonderful news!
I can only hope that we either get a port, or I get off of my lazy butt and do what need be done to get this to me~

  • Zeik56

I’m both extremely happy and extremely concerned about this news. On the one hand I love Makai Kingdom, it’s quite possibly my favorite NIS game and I’ve been wanting a PSP port for a long time.

On the other hand I’m worried that this game won’t actually make it’s way over, or even if it does, they’ll end up replacing Crispin Freeman with a new actor. (If there’s any new voiced lines it will probably happen, since Freeman is union now and NISA probably can’t afford to hire him…) As much as I enjoyed the game as a whole, Freeman WAS Zetta, and the game could just never be the same without him.

Here’s hoping my worries end up being unfounded. Also on the game end, I really really hope they make vehicles worthwhile this time around.

    • Everyone should mail NISA about it. Since it will most likely come to PSN, then they should at least do it since we can still play it on PSV.

    • NetscapePizza

I don’t care if new lines are unacted. Spose they’ll have to pay him again probably to reuse existing ones though

      • Zeik56

Yeah, I would actually prefer they just leave new scenes unvoiced if it came down to that or replacing his voice actor, though I’m sure we’d hear plenty of complaints about that too.

  • malek86

I’m not terribly hopeful for a localization, to be honest. If they didn’t bring La Pucelle, what are the chances of this one?

    • Zeik56

Well the main reason La Pucelle didn’t make it over was licensing rights. NISA doesn’t own the rights to La Pucelle since they weren’t the original publisher, but they do have full rights to Makai Kingdom.

      • malek86

I see. It might happen then. I’m still not holding my breath, since the western PSP market is in quite a bad shape right now.

    • You know that with La Pucelle they had another problem with other company. They did bring Phantom Brave and that is the good sign.

  • d19xx

Was my post about this got deleted?

  • blah blah

Makai Kingdom is hard to find, so yayyyy.

  • Gelsa

I guess this answered my question to NISA that I wrote in some time ago. Makai Kingdom is tied as the best NI PS2 game with Phantom Brave. Makai Kingdom has the better characters and story while Phantom Braves gameplay is better.

    Anyway, good news!

  • RagnaXBL

Good stuff, never had a chance to finish the PS2 version

  • All i have to say. . . .bout damn time!

  • Yeesss! I’ve been waiting for this!

  • theoriginaled

Yaaaaaaay More NIS portables. Keep em coming. Never stop! oh my.. that sounded dirty.

  • Locklear93

Finally, a Phantom Brave remake. Since this news is for Japan, I can only pray that NISA picks this one up; I miss Pram. <_<

    • The article is about Makai Kingdom.  There’s already been a Phantom Brave remake/port.  Gettin’ confused there?

      • Locklear93

Obviously. Too little sleep, too much excitement. I didn’t even buy the
Phantom Brave PSP port, because I consider it NIS’ worst game. (And because
I already have it on PS2 and Wii.)

  • Lord Zetta: The original Facebook.

  • epy

    Please do this NISA!

  • *gasp*

  • Kirbysuperstar2

Alright. And after that, can we have Soul Nomad again? Please?

  • Phoenix_Apollo

It would be nice to see this, but I don’t think NISA really cares about the PSP anymore. Especially after refusing to give us Imageepoch’s games.

    • Which is a shame. I’d be so ready to hand them my wallet if they did the PSP games :/

    • Methylene

I don’t know, they don’t care about PSP titles… except if they are titles that they can push out with their fingers in their noses while asleep. (read: Phantom Brave) So yeah, we MIGHT see it, but lately with NISA, yeah, I wouldn’t put money on anything.

    • Zeik56

But this is an internal NIS game, not an outside product. With the exception of La Pucelle Ragnorak (due to licensing issues) they’ve released just about every major NIS title so far. With the PSP quickly dying out time is working against it, but if they’re going to release any PSP game this would be it.

      • Methylene

… you know, after all this time, you’d think people would know that Mastiff doesn’t own the rights to La Pucelle anymore… They’ve been asked a lot about this during the LP:R “not getting localized thing” and they said they don’t own it. So yeah.

        • Zeik56

This is the first I’ve heard of this.

  • Awesome though I should get around to playing more of the PS2 version, my backlog is horrible.

  • NetscapePizza

  • burnfist23

For those wondering about the mystery character, she apparently has a cape and red pigtails and she’ll be appearing in the new scenario called “Papa is the Strongest Overlord in the Universe”.

    • ForeverFidelis

      “Red pigtails”
“Claims dad is the strongest overlord”

So apparently Laharl and Etna quit being tsundere for a night.

      • Exkaiser

Nah, they’ll pull the rug out from under you.

It’ll turn out to be the daughter of an alternate Adell who became the strongest Overlord.

  • Darkrise

Never got around to buying the original ps2 game, though if this get’s localized, I will.

  • IceRomancer

Yay! I was hoping this was gonna happen! More love for my little psp <3

  • Natat

Awwright, awesome. Now… Soul Nomad, c’mon NIS!

  • SpiderCVIII

“Money! Babes! Alcohol! Gwaa ha ha!” Now portable is too good to be true.

  • ForeverFidelis

I’ve been waiting for this day for years. I don’t even know what to say.

  • god i love nippon ichi

  • Rihawf

I might try it as well…[?]

  • Lord Highawesomeparty

When I read the title to this I dropped my iPhone, jumped out of bed, and started running around my house screaming. Only NIS can make me do this.

Is September a Japanese an English release date or just Japanese? I loved this on the PS2 and I really wan to play this again.

    • It’s just Japanese, hence why there’s a Japan tag at the top of the post. Also, as stated in the article the source is Dengeki PlayStation, a Japanese magazine.

      • timpkmn89

The English screenshot sorta throws things off

  • BadenBadenPrinny

In the immortal words of a certain announcer: “Yeah, I’ve been waiting for this!”

  • Welp, there it is. The one port I actually wanted. Well, other than Soul Nomad, which I doubt they’d port anyway.

  • i took a picture and sent this to my friend. we both seemed very happy over this news. thank you.

  • TenRX

Too bad it’s not going to be in America.

  • Kitestwinblades

simpy cannot wait to remake my katana weilding hellkitty. NIS will import this badass, freaking overlord eventually.
