How Cole Jointed The Street Fighter X Tekken Roster

By Spencer . July 3, 2011 . 5:45pm

l_cole02Cole MacGrath, the lead character of the Infamous series, will join Street Fighter X Tekken as a playable guest character. He brings his superhuman electric powers to Capcom’s fighting game. When speaking with Seth Killian, Strategic Marketing Director of Online & Community at Capcom, I asked how they decided on adding Cole.

"Discussions between Sony and Capcom came to it. They were looking for a character and Capcom got excited about Cole," explained Killian. "It seemed like the timing was about right with Infamous 2 coming out around this time and it seemed a character that had a lots of possibilities, in terms of gameplay. Obviously, there is a big range of moves and I think we fell in love with the electric tornado like everyone else should of. There was his shockwave in Infamous 2 and we liked that, as well."

Only the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions will have Cole. I followed up and inquired if the Xbox 360 version will have an exclusive character too. "We don’t have any information on what’s happening on Xbox yet," Killian replied.

Killian also mentioned that the roster of Street Fighter X Tekken has not been 100% finalized. Ryu, Ken, Sagat, Chun-Li, Cammy, Guile, and Abel have been announced from the Street Fighter side. Kazuya, King, Bob, Hwoarang, Julia, Craig, and Nina are on Tekken’s team.

  • Add Juri to the SF side, I beg of you Capcom D:
I watched many fights on this game, it sure looks and plays great.

  • Arcm

I actually like Cole a lot and Infamous 2 is a pretty sweet game I’m enjoying it a lot. So, I’m really looking forward to playing as him in the game.

  • For anyone that thinks this is a dumb idea: At least it’s not Frank West.

    • KyoyaHibari

Or Phoenix Wright, geez, the amount of people wanting him as DLC in MVC3 is just a nightmare, what a waste.

  • blah blah

Especially since he has such big muscles.
If those series had any moar muscles, it would be Cho Aniki.

    • FireCouch

Blame that awful Street Fighter IV art style where almost every single character looks like some deformed ape-man.

  • MGSBigBoss

    • Klaus00

Seth jinxed himself during an interview pretty much saying Jin is in

    • HistorysGreatestMonster

I’m not going to listen to an hour of Seth, but I think it’s a given that Jin will be in the game.

  • Hours

Bleh, I hate guest characters in fighting games. Especially ones that are there purely for marketing reasons.

I’ll be so happy when this trend has passed. There are more than enough Street Fighter & Tekken character to fill the game with, especially ones that haven’t been a in a game for a while like Charlie, Eagle, Geki, Joe, Michelle, Kunimitsu, etc.

    • Didn’t Bob debut in Tekken 6? I find it odd that he made the roster already over characters with much more tenure (and I don’t like him; If they had to include a newer character, Miguel please).

It would really please long-time fans to include some of those “old timer” characters you mentioned.

      • Hours

I feel the same way. I’m not really a Bob fan, but I do like Miguel a lot. I’m also worried that they’re gonna add in Rufus as Bob’s “rival”, something I’d like to avoid.

As for “older characters”, I totally agree. These games are the perfect place to reintroduce characters that have been out of the limelight for a while. Capcom has said in the past that we will be seeing some in the game, but who knows who they mean.

      • mikanko

Bob’s a very popular character, in Japan especially, and the cast is probably not even halfway complete.  Every indication from Capcom says they’re trying to make the roster huge, so I’ll be surprised if it’s not around 40 characters when they’re done.  Capcom can include whichever Tekken characters they can, but it’d make the most sense for them to include the more recent and popular characters.  I won’t be surprised to see Alisa and Lars get put in, and Lili/Asuka are already unofficially confirmed from the trailer.

As silly as it is, there’s actually a storyline in this game that while not canon, does adhere to the timeline of things, and I doubt we’ll see Michelle and such when we already have Julia etc.

I’m pretty ok with whatever so long as the game plays well, and most impressions so far are pretty great.  I’ll be pretty hyped though if I get to see a Karin/Lili vs. a Sakura/Asuka team.

      • KyoyaHibari

Bob is fun to use, I don’t really like Miguel’s style it’s really sluggish and strange IMO.

    • HistorysGreatestMonster

I don’t get why so many people want to see Charlie in games that already have Guile. I mean, the differences between the two are very small in play style.

  • DemonicX

I really wish they didn’t choose Cole. I like Cole and all, but the buffed up look seriously does not suit him well at all.

And I agree with whoever posted that Juri should be in the game. I’m still trying to figure out why Capcom chose to put Crimson Viper in MvC3 instead of Juri.. >_<

    • im just gonna say this… That is not Cole.

    • fermented

Viper is a great choice for MvC3, especially considering how in SF4 she was pretty much a MvC/Guilty Gear style character in a Street Fighter game, plus a lot of her moveset is influenced by Capcom himself (Captain Commando).

    • HistorysGreatestMonster

I agree for the most part. I like the character and the game he’s from, but I don’t think the look fits him at all. I don’t even mind him being in the game, but he looks like he was given an overdose of performance enhancers. If they were going to use him, they should have made him actually look like Cole.

    • KyoyaHibari

I just don’t like his Infamous 2 look with all these stupid tattoos and stuff ugh.

  • Guest

If this doesnt have Fei Long and Marshall Law Im not buying it. Im already pissed at Capcom for not including Leon in RE Mercenaries

  • Worst guest character ever. Seriousy, ” What were they thinking!?”
Anyway, bring Heihachi, Paul and Brian please.

    • KyoyaHibari

Lol, not to say your choices are better IMO ;P like Bryan really? If Asuka is not already in, we need her, Lee, Law, and some others.

      • don´t wanna fight or anything, but first things first; How old are you? and how long have you been playing Tekken…
Azuka, doesn´t sound to me as a”classic” nor “important” character as Heihachi, Paul or Brian. Also, she´s a chick whose arch-nemesis is a millionaire-pseudo-aristrocat blonde bimbo :p…Personally, we need some bad ass street fighting characters…but knowing Ono, we are probably gonna get fanservice characters. :(… hope I´m wrong.

        • KyoyaHibari

I’m 16, I’ve been playing since Tekken 2, and ASUKA has ties to some of the major characters of the story plus, she has a fun fighting style and people like her, alot of people hate Bryan if I recall, so I don’t see the point in adding in Bryan if most people hate him anyways (we don’t want another MvC3 occurence with Sentinel and She-Hulk, etc), plus he doesn’t have THAT much influence on the plot, but hey we have differing opinions on him I suppose.

          • Hey hey hey, step away from my She-Hulk.

          • KyoyaHibari

I don’t mind her, but it seems no one wanted her in MvC3 and most people hated her.

  • So… when are we going to hear about TekkenxStreet fighter? Aren’t they both supposed to be released at the same time?

    • Bunzi

No. Tekken x Street Fighter hasn’t even entered production yet, and likely won’t see release until 2013 at the earliest.

      • Really? Didn’t they say at first that both would be out at the same time so they can say whos as the best?

        • fermented

No, you must have misheard something they said.  But think about it, why would they want to compete with each other for sales among casual fighting game fans by releasing their games around the same time when they are working with each other’s properties to make these games?

Namco has yet to release Tekken Tag 2 in arcades and on consoles, so I’d imagine that their main focus is currently on that and not yet on TxSF.

  • fermented

My only issue with Cole, and any console exclusive character, is that he is guaranteed to be a banned character in SFxT tournaments to make it fair for the 360-only players that can’t play as or against Cole to learn the matchup against him.

  • Rol

Would I be the first person to ask for Makoto and Alex on the street fighter side?
What about Ling for the Tekken side?

Yes, I am a very outside the box player….

  • Cole is lame

  • Cole should’ve have been in at all. Rather have more Tekken or non-SSFIV characters than any guest characters…..

  • jointed? so Cole is smoking joints now?

  • SoulEater98

I would have perferred someone else, TBH.
