Is Macross: Last Frontier The Next Macross Game?

By Spencer . July 5, 2011 . 12:07pm

imageRight around this time last year we found a trademark for Triangle Frontier filed by Namco Bandai. In February, Namco Bandai released Macross: Triangle Frontier for PSP.

Now, Namco Bandai registered a trademark for Last Frontier. Since the first Macross game for PSP was Macross: Ace Frontier this sounds like the next title in Artdink’s PSP series.

Hmm… I wonder what variable fighters would fit the title "Last Frontier."

    Xenosaga : Last Frontier?
    .hack : Last Frontier?

if it is macross game hope it is PS3 version, that short game in hybrid disc is quite nice i’d love to see full macross game in HD.

Yeah, this is the first thing I thought.  Hoping it’s a full PS3 version as the small game that was on the hybrid movie disc showed a lot of work and a much more impressive engine than what was in ACE R.  It really looked like a demo for a larger game, so I’d assume Art Dink has at least had a PS3 Macross game in development at one time.

If it is, why not make it a PS3 game and at the same time blow up Harmony Gold offices so it can be released to the U.S.?

    • WonderSteve

Because that would cost too much money. The management would be very upset.

      • mikanko

Except as shown in the hybrid blu ray disc of the Macross Frontier movie, Art Dink has already spent a good deal of development transitioning their Macross game to PS3.  It just wasn’t a full game, but more a two hour demo.

        • WonderSteve

Then I would be even more worry. I wasn’t too impressed by what I saw from the demo included with the movie.

The naming of this game suggest it is a trilogy, I would be surprised if they move from PSP to PS3 all of a sudden

Considering it’s most likely that this will be the last PSP title, they may focus on PS3. MAYBE.

          Because considering this….
Ace Frontier > Ultimate Frontier > Triangle Frontier > Last Frontier.

It would cost too much money to blow up Harmony Gold? Nonsense.

    • mikanko

Can we blow up the Harmony Gold offices either way?

    • I was under the impression that Harmony Gold’s control begins and ends with SDF Macross, resulting in Manga Entertainment’s releases of Macross II and Macross Plus?

Regardless, it sucks being a North American Macross fan. :( I would kill to get an SDF Macross boxset for less than $300.. preferably $100.

      • Guest

Even if thats true what difference does that make when these games have SDF characters in them anyway

      • mikanko

        For a Macross frontier game it’s likely they’d only need to go through the Bandai license.  Considering Valkyries from all Macross series appear in the Art Dink games it might be different story.  Harmony Gold is the same company that likes to boast cease and desist orders against Mechwarrior games resembling their “Robotech” property too much, so I’m not sure it’s safe to put anything past them. <.<;;

  • As long as it like the rest of the psp games (or maybe a new type of gameplay) ill be looking forward to it. I just recently imported Macross Triangle Frontier and while its almost the same as ultimate frontier (dating sim = meh) i am enjoying the new valkyries that were added :)

  • Macross Last Frontier IS the new game bundled with the Hybrid Pack for Sayonara no Tsubasa. It’s coming October 20th.

…and yeah I’d LOVE to drop an MDE warhead on the offices of Harmony Gold. Make em disappear.
