Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy’s Notes Detailed

By Spencer . July 12, 2011 . 2:27am

Theatrhythm: Final Fantasys Notes DetailedTheatrhythm: Final Fantasy, Square Enix’s musical Final Fantasy game for Nintendo 3DS, has three kinds of notes. Each one is displayed with a different style icon. Red notes have players tap the screen. Green colored notes appear like a line that players have to slide on with the stylus. Blue notes have players touch and hold the beat.

Square Enix abridged thirteen mainline Final Fantasy titles for Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy. So, everything in the game, even fields, have music to follow. Fields and towns tend to have a more relaxing pace, but if you miss a note you can still lose life. Battles are up tempo and you have control of four different characters. The game features a variety of monsters from the Final Fantasy series.

When you start Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy you’ll see three main options: Music Game, StreetPass Mode, and a Museum that holds your digital song collection. Music Game branches into its own options story mode, challenge, and ????.

Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy is in development for the Nintendo 3DS, but Square Enix have not announced a time frame for the title.

Hopefully this game will be good. I’m sick of the people who do nothing but lash at every single game Square-Enix has to offer ever since Final Fantasy XIII.

Well… I don’t think it’s anything against SE themselves… but come on. 3rd Birthday? Horrible. And it’s a united opinion that XIV was bad too.

      • thecowboypoet

Count me down as a 3rd Birthday fan. It was pretty decently received, so being “terrible” is really just your opinion.
I’m not a PC gamer, but from all accounts FFXIV is coming along nicely.
Not to mention Dissidia 012 was great!

        • KotaroInugami

Don’t get me wrong, I had fun with it, but it’s biggest problem was supposed to be Square Enix’s area of expertise. The story. *SPOILER* As if the story didn’t make sense enough, It turns out Aya Brea is dead before you even began playing the game, since she was just her sister in her body. And the biggest fail was they never explained why oh why they sent in a SWAT team to murder her. It’s pretty unanimous on that last point that they didn’t explain that. Again, I enjoyed running around shooting things watching my clothes get torn off, just expected a certain level of story known to SE.

Story mode, challenge mode and… versus! Who can tap the longest to the final boss music without being eaten? :O

  • XypherCode

    DJMax Technika style gameplay?
that would be cool if it is!

I dislike street passing. Perhaps it’s because I’m a North American male adult, where going to populated areas with this game’s target demographic would probably get me in legal trouble. I just hope it’s not integral to some parts of the game, else I’ll be able to proc it once a month when I see the one other person I know will get it.

I’m sure this is a lot neater in Japan, where handhelds aren’t the mark of a pariah. Shame the situation has come to that, but it has. It’s smart phones or bust over here.

    • Barrylocke89

Street Pass is an awesome ides…it just doesn’t work in America nearly as well as it does in Japan. I see we force random 20+ adults into holding 3DS’s with them 24/7. Ya with me?

    • Suicunesol

Hrm. That’s like disliking a game’s multi-player mode because there’s no one to play with.

Street Pass is usually not integral to any games, but it’s a nice feature and makes for a nice surprise when you pass someone who also has the same game/system as you do. I wouldn’t be concerned with going to specific places in order to Street Pass. Just take it with you on the street. Wherever you go. All the time. You needn’t even open or show your handheld to anybody. Shopping malls are good. Major events like expos are the best. Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, I’m confident you’ll pick up at least one other person within a month.

BTW… this is Final Fantasy. Maybe it looks like a children’s game, but you can bet more than just children will buy it.

This game seems kind of exciting and innovative to me and refreshing experimental take on the genre and series.

      You’ve never played Sonic Chronicles?

  • http://twitter.com/goodjobKebo Kebo Martin

Lightning? In my Nintendo? Cue the victory fanfare! :D

    • doomspeller10

With these characters in a Nintendo game, they’ll finally have an excuse to include at least some in a future Smash Bros. installment… I say it’s a WIN-WIN!

      • KotaroInugami

I believe requirement number one for smash characters is that they must have debuted on a nintendo system, which the majority of final fantasy games have not. Also, SE is kinda picky about who they give character licenses to.

        • http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/members/55321.html FinalArcadia

Sonic didn’t debut on a Nintendo system. But he was probably just a special case, as his debut system no longer has a descendent…R.I.P. Dreamcast.

          • KotaroInugami

Ah yes, you make a good point I didn’t think about. So all we need to do is kill Final Fantasy’s main system… >.> Can you say god mode?

        • doomspeller10

Even if they go by that rule, any character from FF to FFVI can be included. Problem, Cloud?

I know SE is picky about their characters, but they should at least think about it, it’s not like Smash Bros. is a risky bet.

          • KotaroInugami

I agree, but that means after the first smash they could have been put in in melee and brawl. I think they just like to make sure they keep as many cards in thier hand as they can. Bet you it had something to do with our wait for the FF costumes in little big planet. Although, that’s just my speculation.

Why does it look like it was made in powerpoint?

  • KotaroInugami

Those here in america who played Elite Beat Agents probably already get the deal. Interesting. I like.

  • Natat

    O…O…O…Oueeendaaaaaan!
    I-I mean Lightning!

  • Guest

I don’t like Final Fantasy by any stretch but this sounds interesting.

    …I want Ouendan3DS now.

  • puchinri

Reminds me of Ouendan and something else. I can’t tell if I want it or not though.

The funny thing is…this is one of the few 3DS games that interests me. Paper Mario and this keep hope alive for this system…for me, anyway.
