Aliens: Infestation Outed, It’s A Side Scrolling DS Platformer

By Spencer . July 15, 2011 . 1:48am

aliensAustralia’s Classifications Board was the first to reveal Aliens: Infestation, an unannounced Aliens game tied to Contra 4 developer WayForward. Thanks to a leak from the ESRB, we know a bit more about the game.

Aliens: Infestation is a side-scrolling platformer where players blast xenomorphs with shotguns and flamethrowers. Here’s what the ESRB has to say about that.

This is a sci-fi action platformer in which players control a marine squad on a mission to eradicate alien creatures. As players run and jump through side-scrolling levels, they use rifles, pistols, flamethrowers, and explosives to kill enemy soldiers and aliens (i.e., “xenomorphs”). The frenetic battles are highlighted by realistic gunfire, explosions, and cries of pain; injured aliens emit green splashes of blood before collapsing to the ground. Some sequences also depict red blood spurts when human characters are killed (e.g., an alien bursting out of a man’s chest; characters getting bitten by aliens). During the course of the game, players can enter a locker room and see a male character whose buttocks are briefly exposed. The words “a*s,” “bastard,” and “hell” appear in the dialogue.

While Sega gave us an update on Aliens: Colonial Marines at E3, they didn’t bring Aliens: Infestation to the show. Perhaps, the Nintendo DS version casually mentioned by a Gearbox representative back in 2009 evolved into this title. Aliens: Infestation may be a boxed game, but it could be a DSiWare title too since the ESRB does not differentiate between those.

Wow, DS? They’re definitely doing those of us who aren’t ready to move on yet a good service. Nice!

Yeah, DS by itself still has a lot to offer, and it could be more if some branch wanted to do something like localize certain titles.

WayForward makes VERY good games when they are given any semblance of control in what they make. So I’m interested to see how this goes.

Funny, I was hearing some minutes ago “requiem” from Holy Light Demon which is a song used in a supposed leak of the game that appeared on the 2009.
