Earth Defense Force For Arcades Might Be Like Konami’s Steel Chronicle

By Spencer . July 18, 2011 . 1:20am

Giant fire-breathing beetles and mecha suits? No, this isn’t Earth Defense Force, but Steel Chronicle has a lot in common with D3Publisher’s bug blasting series.

Players start Konami’s arcade game by picking a super suit. The assault suit (grey) is armed with an assault rifle, machine gun, and beam blade. It’s more balanced compared to the blaster suit (red), heavy duty armor armed with a Gatling gun and rocket launcher. After gearing up it’s bug hunting time.

If you’re in Japan you can play Steel Chronicle at select arcades. The game is in location test phase with a Location tests for Steel Chronicle have be arcades. The cabinet design is similar to Sega’s Border Break where up to four players can sit next to each other and play together on their own screen.

Why does this instantly remind me of Blue Gender over anything else? Looks like a pretty fun game; mechas have always been more fun as 3rd person arcade-type games (think Virtual On) as opposed to a more “sim” feel such as Mech Warrior, but that’s just me. I wouldn’t mind seeing a stateside release of this on PS3 or something with online co-op.

That is the worst hud I’ve ever seen in my life of arcade games.

And this looks like a clunky type game like Lost Planet 2. Not so much edf, but more Lost Planet.

Binary Domain should’ve been like this, but with robots instead of bugs.
