Devil Survivor Overclocked Has Its Own Achievement System

By Spencer . July 27, 2011 . 12:38am

imageSince Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 is due in stores this week, Atlus Japan is beginning to talk about Devil Survivor Overclocked. The Nintendo 3DS remake, as mentioned before, has 20,000 lines of voice acting.

New demons upped the count to over 150 and there are over 200 skills to learn. While the original game only had one save file (two if you count the autosave slot), Devil Survivor Overclocked has multiple save files and different difficulty levels.

Atlus also created a new Survivor Award system, which unlocks additional content if you can fulfill certain requirements.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked is slated for release on August 23 in North America.

  • Difficulty levels? Awesome!

I might not be getting Overclocked, since I have the first one. But if some of these perks are in DeSu 2 as well, then I would buy it hands down. I want to see some of the Megaten hard mode that it’s so well known for.

“Atlus also created a new Survivor Award system, which unlocks additional content if you can fulfill certain requirements.”
It almost seems like… PS3 Trophies/360 Achievements are coming to Devil Survivor: Overclocked! (Kinda!)
Also, multiple save files? That’s pretty good. Maybe now I can let my cousin also have his own file on the game so he can experience how awesome SMT games are.

    • Balls! And here I was thinking I’d just play it through on Easy after I got kinda stuck on the original game.  Damn the tangible allure of achievements.

  • malek86

Why doesn’t Nintendo just cave in and put an unified achievement system on their consoles, like everybody else is doing?

    • That’d be the smart thing to do… but…

    • AnimeRemix

I would like if Nintendo does that. I mean, even now, I’m still just earning trophies like crazy on my PS3 games (especially Hyperdimension Neptunia). Earning trophies/achievements actually make me want to continue testing my skills in the games by unlocking each and every one of them until I got them all (I almost felt like saying “until I catch them all”).

      • Too bad someone from Nintendo simply don’t believe in developer telling players on how play their games…what was his name? Bill Trinen?

    • I must be the only one who don’t care for them at all, I”m glad it is an option.  It is like doing A/S ranks and doing missions that change up the rules in a game for the sake of challenge.  I have to be motivated for that crap. I heard you don’t unlock anything tangible for the game doing achievements/trophies so I’m fine with that.

      • malek86

Opposite for me, I do A/S ranks and higher difficulties in games for the sake of scoring, or if the game lacks a score system, to have a challenge. Seeing a billion points in a scoreboard is motivation enough for me. Eventual unlockables are just an extra incentive.

Anyway, achievements aren’t nearly as nice as getting a billion points, but it’s an extra. If they added them, it would be one more feature. Like you said, they are optional, so there would be no harm done in inserting them.

  • This is one of the reasons I will eventually own a 3DS.

    • I own a 3DS and I wish this were a reason for me to wanting to keep my 3DS. Go region lock! thanks Nintendo! I ****ing hate you :<

Game release line in the EU is dirt terrible. I'm thinking of selling my 3DS.

      • Alex

for the time, i’m still hoping for a ue release, and since we’re getting tales of the abyss , maybe it will come acrooss the sea

      • Early adopting sucks, especially for a region locked platform.  This is why I wait for 5-10 games I really want before jumping in.  Many also wait on the first remodel.

        • At first I was okay with the console but due to the recent news about developers canceling project like Assassin’s Creed: Lost Legacy and Megaman Legend 3, it just gives me the impression that the 3DS isn’t up to the developers “standard”. Now all I have left is to buy rereleased game like this, metal gear solid, Zelda OoT, tales of the abyss etc.

Another issue is localization because the fact that EU publisher has the choice to translate the game into other languages, it make us English speaking people wait longer. It’s not that I’m not use to it but it’s just nerve-wracking waiting up to a year just to play a game that everyone in North America is talking about. This could also lead to “loss of interest” in the game. If I was to live in North America, I wouldn’t be bitching about this and not comment. Apology Ishaan for complaining about this once again and I completely understand what you were saying in that Level-5 article. This will be my last post regarding this. For now my 3DS is just going back in the box till November.

Oh yeah I completely forgot that this game releases a day before my birthday, another reason why I’m sad. Would’ve made my month…

      • I was going to wait, but I got mine as a graduation gift. I love the hardware to death, but I wish it would recognize my Japanese copy of Pokemon White. Even if I can’t stand Pokemon White or Black in ANY language.

      • Not to sound like a douche, but perhaps we’re all better off buying a NA 3DS and importing NA titles?

Sadly I won’t pick up this game for the same reason I won’t pick up Catherine.

(If it ever comes to Europe…)

  • DDanny

A pity you probably still won’t be able to kill a certain cosplayer character…

    • A pity indeed…I’m still stuck on the level where you have to protect her. I wish you could just let the demons have her.

  • AzureNova

Lol, there should be some achievements to compensate for the difficulty of the game. For example:

Achievement unlocked: A New Beginning – (Stared Playing the game)

Achievement unlocked: Deah Prone – (Congratulations! You died 1000 times)

Achievement unlocked: Dedication – (Played for this long without throwing your DS across the room) etc….

  • I love this game and this only makes the deal even better. Gotta brave that HARD mode now.

  • I actually enjoy achievements and trophies because it extends the life out of the game that is to say the game isn’t friggin hard.

  • gatotsu911

I imagine it’ll be somewhat like Strange Journey’s pseudo-Achievement system, only with actual rewards.

  • Atlus, stop being awesome.

YESH, multiple save files…I always started a route and then got bored with it…

  • ScruffyThe1

I’m actually really excited for this. Hopefully lots of people decide to pick it up :3

  • RablaAndrews

    European release when

We may have a chance, now that Cathy is coming over

  • SuigetsuHiramura

Never played the original, but I’m totally looking forward to this! XD
