Atlus sent over a new round of localized screenshots from Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2: Innocent Sin and it looks like Eikichi is as theatrical as ever. Curious to see how Atlus is going to handle Lisa who… doesn’t speak English in the Japanese version, but sneaks in bits of Cantonese. Like Chie from Persona 4, Lisa loves martial arts movies and fights with her fists.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2: Innocent Sin is slated for release this fall on PSP.

I’ve been waiting for a NA release of this game for about 10 years, I’m so excited. :3

  • http://www.facebook.com/elbandorito Justin McFarland

So is Hitler still going to make an appearance?

I’ll be sad if they change it to something silly.

    • http://twitter.com/Linka13 Linka

They’ve already pre-censored him, so I’d imagine they’ll be keeping him. They gave him a jacket and some sunglasses, and renamed his name to “Fuhrer”. Apparently this was done because Japanese rating standards actually forbid anyone with real history to appear in fictional media.

      • DDanny

Funny part is how that censorship serves no purpose at all, I mean anyone that’s not a child should know who the character is from the moment they see him.
Swatiskas got replaced by iron crosses too.

  • AxeL

Whattttt….loving Lisa already! Huge Atlus fan and own most of the SMT titles ranging from Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2, Devil Summoner 1 & 2, Nocturne, Persona 1, 3 FES, 4, Devil Survivor, etc. Still need to get Strange Journey :(…gotta buy a 3DS for SMT and Tales of the Abyss. Now that the price has dropped I got no excuse to not get it, the PS Vita, and that awesome 3D TV!!

Dang my wallet is getting lighter and lighter but I can’t resist buying these games on Day One! :p At least I can’t say I got nothing to do on my days off lol. Loving these screen shots Atlus keep them coming!!

Is there voice-acting in this game?  Even if not, this is exciting!  I’m really happy Atlus decided to localize this game and so quickly, despite it being on the PSP.  Thanks Atlus!  (runs off to play Catherine and yell at Vincent and his crazy women some more)

    • Exkaiser

There’s some voice-acting during battle, but the majority of game is voiceless.

  • cmurph666

I’ve been waiting to play this game almost as long as I’ve been waiting for Duke Nukem Forever.

The big difference is this one won’t suck.

  • http://chronotwist.deviantart.com/ JustThisOne

    Eikichi, you lovable bastard! <3

Didn't realize that Kasugayama translates to Cuss. :P

As for Ginko, maybe they'll flip it around and make it so she speaks fluent Japanese because of her father instead.

    • http://twitter.com/InfinityAge11 InfinityAge11

If you read it the Japanese way, “Kasu” would sound the same as how they would pronounce “Cuss”. I would suspect it has something to do with that as to how they changed it.

      • http://chronotwist.deviantart.com/ JustThisOne

I guess so. But it’s an awkward shorthand.

      • puchinri

They couldn’t just keep it as Kasu then? Or is it a specifically romanized/katakana based name?

        • Barrylocke89

I think that’s the way they make fun of the game. In an alternate translation, they call the school KasuGAYama High to make fun of it, so I think this is the way Atlus is doing it.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=32807855 白小狼

Well, Kasugayama was shortened to Kasu in the Japanese version because “Kasu” is slang for garbage or trash, and Kasugayama High had a bad reputation.  So, they could have kept it as Kasu in the English version, but it wouldn’t make as much sense since it’s not really a pun in English.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=32807855 白小狼

Shouldn’t that be they’ll make it so that she DOESN’T speak fluent Japanese?  In the original the point was that because she’s blonde with blue eyes everyone expected her to be able to speak fluent English, but didn’t because her dad only taught her Japanese (and she was born and raised there).  Having her actually speak Japanese wouldn’t make sense as a reveal, or in the context…

      • http://chronotwist.deviantart.com/ JustThisOne

Haha, it’s true. It was really more of a joke, because it’s kind of impossible to be in-context here. xD I was trying to keep it spoiler-free, but that would make it confusing. ;P Goes without saying that there’s a spoiler warning!

What I meant was that they could flip it around and have everyone assume she spoke fluent Japanese because of her japanomaniac father, but in actuality only know English and Canto. But that would make the surprise way less surprising because she’s white. :P

  • SuigetsuHiramura

Hmmm…. I wasn’t a fan of the first Persona on PSP, but I might give it a go just for the hell of it XD

    • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com Taijutsu-Joshua

Same thing I’m doing. Hoping it won’t let me down.

      • DDanny

In case you both are wondering, P1 is obviously the worst of all Persona games, P2 is miles better and usually considered to be much better than P3&4 in story and characters department, gameplay is still a bit slow but not the mess that was P1.

        • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com Taijutsu-Joshua

I know that, but what initially threw me off was the battles. They seem too complicated. And by the looks of it, so is this one. But maybe I didn’t give it much of a chance, so that’s why I’m getting this.

          • SuigetsuHiramura

For me, the P1 battles were very long and, at times, very difficult.  The battle theme was also very repetitive.  The story was fairly confusing, also.

          • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com Taijutsu-Joshua

Really? I hadn’t even gone that far to notice story issues. I pretty much quit after going to the hospital to meet that one girl?

        • MisterDandylion

To be fair, In my very honest opinion, Persona 1 needs a proper remake. Something along the lines of Persona 4 (in terms of gameplay) but with it’s own twists that made P1 unique in it’s own right like the possibilities to have a 5 people-party OR the fact that could battle more than 4/5 enemies.

To me, P1 had a great story line, the characters were ok.  The gameplay was a mess, most possible thanks to the whole 1st Person-Dungeon-Crawling concept which was succesful in the past Shin Megami Tensei entries (SMT I,II and Devil Summoner: Soul Hackerz)(Let’s consider the fact that Persona 1 was originally named Megami Ibunruko: Perusona -Tales of the Goddess: Persona- relating this entry as part of the “main arc” which  would explain why they tried to include elements from the original Megaten games.

P1 is a good game but man…. look at it’s younger brothers: let’s say Persona 4…. it has an outstanding soundtrack, memorable characters and a deep philosofical, social, psychological message (Nihility as Falsehood and Deception; the persecution of dreams;  to reach the truth). And I can’t forget the anime sequences: What can I say….? Anime sells XD.

I think Persona 1 failed in terms of story exposition: the story was there, they had the elements but the exposition of the story was……lacking :S

Oooooor I could just say the limitations of the PSP  f’ing killed it :(

          Oh well…..

        • Hraesvelgr

Speak for yourself when saying the original Persona is the worst game in the series, please.

  • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com Taijutsu-Joshua

Now, If I could just hear a Persona 4 remake announcement, I’d fall in love with Atlus.

    • SuigetsuHiramura

Here, here, to that.  You took the comment right from under my fingertips XD

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=749504598 Shane Guidaboni

Why does P4 need a remake? That’s a waste of time and resources. It’s perfect as it is.

      • SuigetsuHiramura

I just want another female MC, but I guess I can wait till Persona 5 with that XD

      • http://blackstar2661.deviantart.com Taijutsu-Joshua

Why does it need a remake? Because the game came out pretty late in the PS2′s life. People like me missed out on a great SMT game, and probably the best Persona game yet.

Making a remake (on the 3DS) would be a pretty good  one because of the fact that the 3DS cartridge can hold A LOT of memory, meaning we wouldn’t miss out on the cutscenes like we did in P3P.

And with that, you’d be raking in brand new fans for a P5.

However, being that it’s Nintendo and not Sony, I’m not too sure how it could go. But IMO, all these reasons, plus a female MC are good enough reason in my book to make a remake.

  • haku67

I can’t wait to play this! :D  I hope they go for persona 5 next plz. dual ps3 and 360 if you want just make it! :D

    • SuigetsuHiramura

Persona 5 is long overdue (oh the irony, since I just beat Persona 4 today and I already can’t wait for the next one XD)

  • endaround

Lisa not speaking English is a bit of a spoiler no?

    • Trotmeister

She’s also a girl. How’s that for spoilers?

  • puchinri

Yay! Going to go pre-order this on Monday, and totes ready for P4P and P5~! >u<
…What? You all know one or the other is gonna be announced next. :'|

  • Saraneth

Gah! Why couldn’t they have remade Eternal Punishment too…:(

    • Zero_Destiny

I remember reading that they already planned to. Atlus in Japan originally wanted to sell both games together or something at one point in time if I remembering right. I think they considered doing that at one point in the development at least. It was just too big and they couldn’t release them as one game. I do remember them stating that whether or not they remake Eternal Punishment relies on the sales of this game though. Anyways we might see a remake. It just depends.

      • Saraneth

I certainly hope so. I’m currently playing it on my ps1, but the graphics aren’t very nice-looking, so it would be nice to get a remake.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/kaishou Kaishou

Can’t wait to have this along with my PSX copy.

  • Mister_Nep

Soon I’ll have an English copy of Hail Fuhrer! The Gam-I mean Persona 2: Innocent Sin.

  • Rafael Freitas

Played the first one, enjoyed a lot.

But I still thinking that they should improve this sprites a little bit.

  • MisterDandylion

I always wondered what would happen if Reiji Kido (P1), Eikichi  (P2), Shinjiro Aragaki (P3) and Kanji Tatsumi (P4) performed an All-Out Attack? o_O

    • vivaluis59

      it would be over 9000….
