A Dungeon Crawler Set In Modern Day Tokyo

By Spencer . August 1, 2011 . 2:06am

The company that brought you Students of the Round and its eye-catching creatures have another Xbox 360 dungeon crawler. Labyrinth Cross Blood Reloaded takes place in the year 20XX where students fight monsters in Tokyo.

Like Students of the Round, Labyrinth Cross Blood was originally a PC game. The Xbox 360 release has been enhanced with new event scenes and extra voice acting. Kadokawa Games will publish Labyrinth Cross Blood in Japan this November. First run copies include a Generation Xth Secret File which contains a prologue story and a soundtrack CD.

Students fighting monsters in a future Tokyo? So this is like “Shin Megami Tensei: The RPG”!

    Oh, wait…

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Wayne-LaBranch/100002132711844 Wayne LaBranch

lol nice, but it will be different…they’re monsters, not demons/Shadows 8D

      • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

Yeah, I noticed. I just couldn’t resist the urge to make the joke. ^w^

      • Exkaiser

        So… a modern-day version of Last Bible?

    • DanteJones

Ooh, maybe they’ll call on the power of Persona and go fight Shadows!*

*Censoring has been brought to you by Atlus. Don’t copy us or else face litigation! Have a nice day.

      • http://twitter.com/#!/Leafy_Cam Leafhopper

You really think they can censor shadows? If that’s the case Kingdom Hearts has some legal issues to work out :P

    • Nei_chan

Why should Persona series have a monopoly for this trope ?
In fact high school kids fighting something in Tokyo is one of the most overused story startpoint you can find in today’s entertainment industry.

      • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

It’s just a joke on how it reminded me of some Shin Megami Tensei titles.

But since you mentioned it: I’m referring to Shin Megami Tensei as a whole, not just Persona sub-series.

        • Nei_chan

I thought the other SMT’s don’t feature teenagers as protagonists? But I’ve only played the PS2 ones.

          • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

Many of them have rather young protagonists – not necessarily students in some cases.

          • http://www.jb2x.com/wordpress/ JB2X

The SMT series was practically nothing but teenagers.  In the original, you’re a teenager who just gets involved in some crazy crap that happens in your town.  Eventually, you have an army of demons and friends helping you out through what happens.

Persona just generally involves school and calling out your inner demon, is all.

          • Exkaiser

Heck, back in Megami Tensei you were a high school student who invents the Demon Summoning Program that ruins everything everywhere forever.

  • RagnaXBL

ugh way too many dungeon crawlers…
and by many i mean more than zero, one is already way too much

    • Exkaiser

You can never have enough dungeon crawlers.

      • solbalmung

And almost zero were released here stateside so Duh :(
Hope this one or 7th Dragon 2020 get localized QQ!

      • theworldofnoboundries

I just love that word. We need more game like Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. It is just a bad reality that more of these kind of game never came to west which is really………… UUUUUKKKKKKHHHHHH!!!!

    • PersonaSpace

      Waaah.

  • dr000d

    First person battles? No thanks.

    • http://chronotwist.deviantart.com/ JustThisOne

It’s true. I kind of wish I saw the characters do that attack or something. It would make that much more of a difference for me.

    • http://myanimelist.net/profile/Kuronoa Kuronoa

Kinda like that, but that is probably because I play a lot of first person battle games as of late (SMT, DQ, Etrian Odyssey).
      Many dungeon crawlers do this.

  • Guest

So they’ve upgraded to motion portrait in the cutscenes but still haven’t incorporated it into the battles scenes?

    nice…

Sick of this “students fight monsters” crap. Give me some older protagonists again, Japan, please.

and that’s why I like Strange Journey, they were soldiers without teenagers and lolis.

    • Strain42

Play different games then. This is what Japan usually does. It’s like how people who bash FPS games claim they’re tired of armored space marines. Also, age shouldn’t be the biggest factor in whether or not you can like or relate to a character.

Even so, it shouldn’t hurt them do something more “realistic” once in a while. There are others games with teenager with more serius tone.

Variety is nice. I don’t understand this “You must like Disgaea art styles and Persona high school shenanigans” nonsense you’re spouting off.

  • Andrew Austin

    I really like the song.

  • Aoshi00

Very nice art… I only tried the demo of Students of the Round, not a fan of first person dungeon crawler, but the soundtrack was quite epic..  and this port has voices too which Students of the Round didn’t have, which I thought was a pity..

  • JustaGenericUser

Please, please let me complain about the fact that it’s not also on PS3, or that the PC version isn’t being enhanced (so that someone could try to translate it for us). Because… GGGAAAAAAHHH!

  • Kris

The title “Labyrinth Cross Blood Reloaded” is just so JRPG that I can’t help but love it.
