New Tales Of Xillia Videos Introduce Milla And How To Use Grow Up Points

By Spencer . August 4, 2011 . 12:52am

With a video introducing Jude Mathis already on the ‘net, Namco Bandai turned to Milla Maxwell, the spirit user with a secret mission.

The way you level up characters in Tales of Xillia is a bit different. Players spend GP (grow up points) to enhance one of six stats: strength, vitality, intelligence, spirit, agility, and dexterity. Each node your purchase strengthens your characters. Hidden nodes with techniques and skills lie between the core six stats. You can reveal those by connecting to adjacent nodes. Here’s the system in action.

Yup, favorite character so far is still Milla.

The skill layout looks pretty interesting. My Japanese is pretty terrible so I can’t read a whole lot of it, but I’m wondering if the type of skills you acquire are dependent on which two stats it sits between. For example, if you filled out one square (four stat points) between intelligence and say, spirit, would the skill be a healing spell or something else along those lines?

Man, I need to take a Japanese class again.

EDIT: Just realized this is a Tales game so spells are probably going to be Artes, which are preset as you level. So… healing skills? I probably shouldn’t make posts this late, brain nott worrrk ggggoooddddd!

…There are no levels in this game, this is the only growth system. Artes(physical, spells, mystic), skills, stats, you can only get them through this system. For example, the first middle node that became selectable in Jude’s board was an arte. And I don’t think their placement has that much importance in regards to the closest nodes, but I would need to see it more to make any judgment.

      • DanteJones

Ahh crap, I remember now that you mention it, although the ones in the middle are actually artes though? Pretty cool that you can choose which ones you want the character to have. :D

        • Ren

The middle nodes shown until now have all been artes and skills. The yellow flower like symbols are arts, while the green weird symbol are skills.

Not only is the growth system ingenious, it’s also beautiful to look at. The flowers and the lines that and the dots are carefully shapped and their beautiful colours stand out in such a graceful and beautiful manner!

Also, the music is splendid. I could not be more anxious to get my hands on this game. It makes it even harder for me to wait for Graces F western release!

Every time I see footage of this game, and remember that I won’t be playing it until 2013 at the earliest, if at all, man its disappointing.
