bakum1Namco Bandai announced they’re working on a game based on the Bakuman series. In Bakuman: The Way of a Manga Artist you’re going to feel what’s it is like to be Moritaka Mashiro because you’re going to make a manga.

The game is broken into different stages where you help Akito Takagi create a story an name important scenes. Takagi’s parts look like puzzle games since players have to pick the correct kana to spell out words.

As Mashiro, you have to trace lines and fill in frames before time runs out. Make a mistake and you get a time penalty.

Bakuman: The Way of a Manga Artist may be a licensed game, but there are some novel gameplay mechanics were made to fit the series theme. Namco Bandai plan to release the Nintendo DS game in Japan this winter.

  • This actually looks great. Far better than the usual anime to visual novels titles.

    • Not to mention you get to do something pretty unique. Simple, yes, but there aren’t a lot of games which involves coloring as a gameplay mechanic.

  • want to try

  • It looks pretty interesting, indeed! They could also make a WiiU conversion to promote the second season of the anime!

  • I wonder if it would cover much of the storyline from the anime. I wouldnt mind taking part in more scenes from Detective Trap from the lovable Ashirogi-sensei, which I hope doesnt get cancelled, darn cliffhanger in the manga at Vol 6! Oh and we see Eiji, Fukuda, and Hiramaru.

I was wondering how they where gonna make this into a game. turns out it looks pretty interesting. probably not something i would buy though.

  • Looks interesting, but the timer is…idk, as an artist myself I find it rather hard to have limited time for lines and coloring something so..

But that’s the way the business works, you see

  • Turned out to be much better than I expected actually. Nice!

  • Wow, I really like the gameplay mechanics they chose.  A few years back, I played a DS game that was like a manga creation sim  called Mangaka Debut Monogatari.  It was all right, but the manga creation and gameplay aspects were separate.  Like most of the mini games that impacted the story were just unrelated puzzles (like Bejeweled) and then there was another mode for just using the stylus to make pictures.  Here it seems like the story and the manga creation are better integrated.  I am definitely looking forward to it!

  • Sounds like something really fresh. I’d probably epically fail at it since my drawing skills are overly rusty.

  • This is how you do an anime-to-game adaption.

Still pissed about Code Geass PSP/PS2 so boring that game was

  • I want this to make it to the US.

    Really bad.
