Bjorn And The Other Giants In Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2

By Spencer . August 5, 2011 . 4:00pm

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 has monsters so big they take up both screens… and you can scout these giants. Fans of Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride might recognize one of the monsters in the video above…

The North American version will have tag mode connectivity with Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies and Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation. Link up and you’ll start a battle with monsters from those games, which gives you a chance to scout them. You can also tag another Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 player to battle them (and scout their monsters!) and fight online over Nintendo Wi-Fi.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 comes out on September 19 in North America.

Glad we’re getting this, but would prefer the professional version

I agree.  I keep being told, “It’s mostly competition rebalances for all of the monsters.”

I keep thinking, “So I’ll never be able to use anything below the highest rank and hope to win?”

It’s also about 100 more monsters and I believe a few extra quests.

Close.  500 new monsters and a double-length story mode.  And multiplayer re-balancing which means the US Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2 isn’t compatible with the Japanese Joker 2 Professional, meaning the worldwide tournament will consist of Western DQMJ2 players and whatever Japanese DQMJ2 players decide to come slum it with us.

They really, really dropped the ball by skipping Professional.  And with the 3DS being pushed, we *won’t* see it in the US.

I’m getting this.  It’ll be my first game in this series.

Hmm, I wonder, should I get main series titles DQIV-VI or get DQM games? I’ve only played DQ VIII and IX and wonder what would be best to get next.
