No Ligers Here (Sorry Tear), But There Are English Tales Of The Abyss 3DS Screens

By Spencer . August 17, 2011 . 3:40pm

No Ligers Here (Sorry Tear), But There Are English Tales Of The Abyss 3DS ScreensNamco Bandai sent over a bunch of English screenshots and videos of Tales of the Abyss. No, not the PlayStation 2 game, the Nintendo 3DS version. Europe gets Tales of the Abyss for the first time later this year. Tales of the Abyss for 3DS will also come out in North America, but Namco Bandai has not set a release date.

Whoever did them trailers need to fucking learn.

    • http://twitter.com/aoiamiti Naoto

Seconded. Who’s fucking bright idea was it to make videos like that. You can’t SEE anything when you show both screens. Not to mention you need to turn up your volume to ridiculous level just to hear anything. Have some common sense. Oh wait, this is bloody NAMCO.

      • Suicunesol

Play the videos at 720p at fullscreen. The way they’re meant to be seen.

        • http://twitter.com/aoiamiti Naoto

That’s doesn’t solve the sound issue and it doesn’t make the display that much better.

          • http://twitter.com/Haseosan87 Francesco

It’s just the first video to have that problem. The second one doesn’t have any sound issue.

    roar

    • MrRobbyM

      Freakin loved that show.

    • LynxAmali

      Well played, well played indeed.

  • MrRobbyM

Apparently Bamco has super hearing abilities.

  • Croix

Well I’m glad they’re at least promoting the game now, but um…I think its success still lies mostly in the hands of the fans. Word of mouth might be all that can help us now, so spread it around.

  • XypherCode

    day 1 for me :D

  • Shinji Kazuya

    Awsome! Can’t wait!

I’m so thrilled to be able to play this game on the go! Day one purchase for me.

  • meat0bun

After months of agonizing (ok, not really) waiting, I’m looking forward to this as my first 3DS game cartridge.

If Namco wants more of my money, they should also port the PS2 version of Tales of Symphonia that never made it out of Japan to the 3DS.

    • http://twitter.com/keithmaxx keithmaxx

It’s playable on the Gamecube-compatible Wii… And you’re missing out on a lot if you haven’t done so by now. :)

      • meat0bun

I didn’t know the Wii can play PS2 games. :P

But in all seriousness, you must be mistaking the Gamecube ToS (which I have played and loved way too much, my fav RPG) with the rereleased Japan-only PS2 version which has bonus features like new side-quests and customizable costumes.

Spence shouldn’t it have a USA flag instead of a JPN flag?

    • Shinji Kazuya

If you’re a Graces f fan you should know by now that it will come out in the summer of 2012. Or so they say.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_472QBVARRYERRGHATSUGCVCTTA Ian

yes i know that already -_- but at least screen shot or something like soul calibur also i still have grudge they say “coming 2011″ on early this year then change to “coming soon 2012″ without a date or something -_- sigh i need time

this is such a great game in the series

  • Oni123

It’s the English language version right? None of skits were voiced…there were a lot of skits in that game. That’s a lot of silence. Unless we get the Japanese voices, which we won’t

    • http://twitter.com/sakurairomemori Alphabet Soup

Yeah and I was kinda hoping they would go back and dub them, especially with the date pushed back, but it doesn’t seem they will, probably mostly for monetary reasons.  Ah well, still looking forward to the  release.

Apparently, a 3DS cartridge can hold up to 8Gb of data. The game could have easily contained both the English and the Japanese voice tracks. It’s clear that this is a financial decision.

    • http://twitter.com/aoiamiti Naoto

The Nintendo Power with the Tales of the Abyss article confirmed that the skits will not be voiced in the 3DS NA version. Even the Tales of the Abyss anime that is coming out for NA is not even dubbed.

So yes, for a 2011 game it’s going to look really fucking stupid with the silent skits and mouths moving. Especially since Vesperia and Symophonia: Dawn of the New World (somewhat most current Tales of games) all had voiced skits.

It would have been better to just get the Japanese voice skits really. This game is just going to be as incomplete as the NA PS2 game.

I wish this would come sooner rather than later in NA. The 3DS needs games.

“Overlimits”, wow, Namco got pretty lazy there. Says “Over Limit” in the English PS2 version, looks like they didn’t bother editing the graphic this time around from the Japanese game.

  • AdrianHeng

“No, not the Playstation 2 game …”

Coulda fooled me. And no, I’m not praising it either – Abyss wasn’t exactly the prettiest game on the PS2, and the jump to the 3DS proves it hasn’t aged well.

But don’t get me wrong here, I’m not judging Abyss by its graphics alone. It is, by all accounts, a fantastic game (my favourite Tales game, as a matter of fact), but I’d have liked to see, I dunno, higher res models and/or textures. It isn’t as though the 3DS isn’t capable of rendering near-Wii quality games. Just look at MGS and Resident Evil: Revelations.

  • darkfox1

I always have that feeling that devs or who ever makes games on the 3DS DO NOT use the 3DS’ full potential. I know it might take a few years but still. This game shows that. Still no voiced cut scenes etc. They could have added SOMETHING jeez. I missed out on the PS2 version of Abyss so im getting this one but I still feel that the 3DS can probably hold more ( a lot more) then what this port is giving us. Sigh 3DS needs time.

  • darkfox1

Seriously though people BUY THIS GAME!!!!!!!!! And Graces F!!!!!!! When It comes out

  • http://twitter.com/Driorianos Kirsten

I know they probably couldn’t help it, but I wish they had smoothed over the features a little more, everything still has that ps2 blockyness. Though, it is a 3D game, so who knows, maybe it translates well in that area? Does anybody else know of any people who got their hands on the Japanese version?
