World Of Warcraft Isn’t The Only MMO With Pandas

By Spencer . August 27, 2011 . 11:00am

World Of Warcraft Isnt The Only MMO With PandasWakfu, a tactical online RPG from Ankama Studio, has Pandawas. These fighters are (you guessed it) martial arts masters that love to drink. Booze changes how they fight. Pandawas act more like support characters when they are sober. After a few pints of fermented bamboo milk, Pandawas become masters of the drunken fist. Pandawas are one of the fourteen classes in Wakfu which include staples like warriors and healers plus classes like time magi and gamblers.

I played a bit of Wakfu and I’ll compare it’s kind of like Disgaea or Final Fantasy Tactics online. Combat is played on a grid, but players have time limits with bonuses to encourage faster fights.

Square Enix is handling Wakfu in North America and right now the game is in closed beta. You can register for a key here. Square Enix is still thinking about payment options for the game when it is finally released. Cash-op and subscription plans are both on the table, Wakfu may even have both in North America.

An MMO that is kinda like Disgaea or FF Tactics that has timed battle filled with pandas…..what have I been taking?

    Interesting though.

I really like how the game looks, will definitely try to get a key.

Payment options… so it won’t be free to play again huh? And probably it will have that “free sample” area just like Dofus, their previous game, right? It was such a let down to walk on those premium areas… With that style the game could turn into a very popular free-to-play since it’s fun and simple (it seems even light enough to be able to run in a browser, although I may have been deceived by the appearences) but I am still not sure if it’s a worth pay-to-play. A premium just covering items and other benefits to the character as usual would make much more sense to me than one covering something like 90% of the areas of the game like the one on Dofus that just made me and my friends drop the game long ago.

Ironically, i learned about Dofus thanks to the panda race and now they have a new game entirely for them lol Descriptions of Disgaea/FF online really intrigue me though XD. I hope Wakfu wont disappoint me too.
