Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors Get These Ten Classic NES Games For Free [Update] Bought a Nintendo 3DS before the price drop and connected to the Nintendo eShop at least once? Then you’re entitled to ten NES games and ten Game Boy Advance titles.

Nintendo will begin distributing NES games on September 1 and these are the ten titles Japan gets:

Super Mario Bros.
Donkey Kong Jr.
Balloon Fight
Ice Climber
The Legend of Zelda
Wrecking Crew
NES Open Tournament Golf (aka Mario Open Golf in Japan)
Yoshi
Metroid
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

All ten games will be barebones releases at first without digital instruction manuals, emulator features like save states, and the ability to transfer games to another system will be added for free at a later date. Nintendo plans on selling Famicom and NES titles for the 3DS on the eShop, but have not set a specific launch date.

At the moment this news is just for Japan. However, Nintendo kept the ambassador list for the first five titles consistent across regions.

Update: Nintendo of America have confirmed that their list of Ambassador games is identical to the Japanese one.

    this list sucks…NEXT!!

That’s pretty much all of the good NES games Nintendo made.

        Castlevania should be here then…

        • Kirbysuperstar2

          Yeah, because Nintendo made Castlevania.

Oh my bad. But it was on the NES. I guess I got confused about the promotion. T_T

        • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

          Konami made Castlevania.  |8

        Well, except SMB3.

      • Kristóf Muzsik

Yeah, and Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japanese), Super Mario Bros 2 (international), Super Mario Bros 3, Kirby’s Adventure, Kid Icarus, Mother, Startropics, Startropics II, Dr. Mario, Excitebike, Mario Bros., Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out, Nazo no Murasamejou (well, it was for the FDS, but the Japanese version of SMB2 was for it as well, so whatever), and some other.

        • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

I did say “good.”  About the only corrections are Super Mario Bros. 3.  And Mother doesn’t count, we will never see that outside of Japan.

          • Kristóf Muzsik

These are all good. The two Super Mario Bros. 2 games are just awesome. The Japanese version is just like the original, (which is awesome) but harder. The international release is an extremely atmospheric, fun, and creative game, and it’s quite long for its time as well. And come on, everybody knows that Kirby’s Adventure is one of the most polished games for the system. Kid Icarus is really fun as well, from the same guy who made Metroid, and it’s pretty obvious at many parts. The StarTropics games are much like Zelda, still different, but at least as awesome. Nazo no Murasamejou is an extremely underrated, Japan-only, innovative game. Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out is a really unique and fun experience. All the others I mentioned only qualify as “good”, but these are definitely awesome. You probably have never played most of them if you say otherwise. They are easily better than Ice Climber, Balloon Fight, Donkey Kong Jr., Yoshi, and especially Wrecking Crew, all of which you called good, but none of my examples except for two.

      Then don’t get them.

Better than a kick in the teeth. :) Pleased to see Yoshi on the list.

This is cool I guess but the only one I don’t physically own is wrecking crew which is surprisingly hard to find.

Pretty impressive list. Looking forward to downloading these in a few days! Particularly a fan of Zelda II.

I never played these games before and I’m looking forward to it.

Cue the naive wishing for 3D re-releases of all of these games.

  • PersonaSpace

So, like everything else with the 3DS, Nintendo is shooting these out unfinished.

TTThe only 2 of the new five in looking toward to are Yoshi and Zelda II. They should replace Metroid with something else and have zero mission for the gba, and put kirby’s adventure, yoshi’s cookie, and Wario woods. Or something better

Urgh, I didn’t think of that. Metroid on the NES list means no Zero Mission on the GBA one. Damn it. And here I was really hoping for it.

      • meat0bun

Goddammit, same here. If Nintendo included Zero Mission, I would’ve forgived all their 3DS wrongdoings in a second. Sigh…

  • theworldofnoboundries

Yessss!!! With this 10 game. I will be able to control my urge to buy new 3DS game for a while. Lucky to be an Ambassadors lolololol

I’m a bit disappointed seeing two Zelda games, (I love the series don’t get me wrong) but I’m still extremely happy with this list, the only games I’ve played on here have been Zelda, Zelda II, SMB, DK Jr and Balloon Fight so the other half will be all new experiences for me. I’m most looking forward to Yoshi and Metroid!

    • symytry

Wait for save state function before diving into Metroid.  You’ll thank me later.

I think the only two games I would have wanted instead are Kirby’s Adventure and SMB3 instead of Golf and probably Wrecking Crew.

I had actually hoped for Zelda II though, strangely enough– for some reason, I’ve just felt like playing it, and handheld will help in that area, at least. Give me more of a chance to actually get through it. Metroid is a nice choice too.

I don’t really have outright complaints as it is, cause hey. More games for me to have. :3

<3 SMB3 too, but since you're getting Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario 3 as a GBA game, I think SMB3 would be redundant.
