Ragnarok Odyssey Is Less Like Ragnarok Online And More Like Monster Hunter

GungHo Entertainment and Lunar developer Game Arts are creating a PlayStation Vita game with the Ragnarok Online license. Ragnarok Odyssey is quite different from the PC game, however.

 

 

The fate of the world hangs in the balance because of giant monsters. You fight them with a team up of up to four players. Ragnarok Odyssey, as described by GungHo, is an action game and going by the trailer it appears more fast paced than other games in the hunting genre.

      God Eater isn’t particularly fast, though?

      The attacks remind me more of DMC than the various Hunter games.

    Looks like a more high-powered alternative for people seeking Monhun gameplay with DMC-ish class fantastic attacks. I’d certainly love to see more about this.

    Lol this is not even worth call Ragnarok anymore……. They should just create new IP rather than keep milking Ragnarok but never produced anything the same with the old series.

            I don’t like the look of the the artstyle of some of the environments. The enemies and armor are hit and miss.

            That is just my opinion. Not trying to piss off MH fans. The games are good :)

    This game looks amazing.  However, why reference that it looks like Monster Hunter, when it looks a lot less like Monster Hunter and looks more like PSO or PSU/PSP.  Looks way faster and more combo oriented than the PSO games though.

    Or like other people said. Looks more like DMC than Monster Hunter.

    I personally was hoping we got the regular Ragnarok Online, but this works.

    Game looks really great, visually. Hopefully it plays as good as it looks. And I hope US/EU gets this as a launch title, looks like some of the buttons and icons are already in English

      While it usually wouldn’t be anything to bank on, I do find it interesting that the party member names in all examples (both video and screenshots) over the lifebar indicators have been roman letters. Coincidence? Or…?

        I know, its nothing to bank on but it gives me a little bit of hope that we get this fast. But having names, icons and buttons in English on a Japanese game that’s not even released yet? Sounds much more than a coincidence. I wonder who would publish it though? Did Gungho publish any of the other Ragnarok games overseas?

    As an ardent fan of Gamearts since Silpheed, Lunar and Gungriffon I will be following this.  I hope it’s successful if nothing else because I’d like to see GA get bigger and better than their current state.

    I wonder who they’ll get to do the music.

    I fail to see what this has in common with Monster Hunter. This looks more liked a fast paced Phantasy Star.

      Agreed. the problem with people today is that as soon as they see an HP bar on the top left corner of the screen they instantly think about MH -.-
