New Nura: Rise Of The Yokai Clan Videos Summoned

By Spencer . September 13, 2011 . 12:33pm

Arc System Works’ next fighting game isn’t BlazBlue or Guilty Gear. It’s Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan – Great War of a Hundred Gathering Demons. Reminiscent of Arcana Heart, Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan lets players customize their characters by equipping yokai that change their statistics.

Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan comes out on November 17 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Gah I can’t deal if it plays too much like Arcana Heart. Not that I think Arcana Heart is bad I just suck at it. I can’t deal with a dedicated dash button @_@.

But looking at it again, there are platforms and stuff. I really hope it doesn’t turn out like Guilty Gear: Dust Strikers. That game leaves a bad taste…

EDIT: And looking at the 2nd video it looks very hectic. I dunno about the morale meter instead of health thing either. I think they did that in another fighter but I cant remember which one.

It was Battle Stadium D.O.N, which I hope this game is not similar to in terms of the moral bar.

Or maybe it was Dragon Ball Idainaru Densetsu[PSX] it was a pretty freaking hectic and awesome game.

This looks amazing…much better than what I was expecting and my expectations were high considering who is developing it. If this doesn’t get localized, I’ll be importing for sure.

OMG THIS LOOKS JIZZTASTIC! The only problem…I saw Shoei as a support ~n~ nooooooooo, he better be playable as well! There’s other chars Im hoping for too, but this gameplay looks amazing, move over Metal Gear, Goldeneye, ACRevaltions & Rayman, Nura is my #1 November game baby! It seems futile to hope for a health bar, nonetheless, it looks superb.

So lucky to get games in JPN, I would too if I could understand it, this game looks nice.

… Huh. Interesting. I haven’t read the manga yet (anyone out there that can say if it’s interesting?), but I’m kind of interested in the game… it looks like a Smash Bros-type game, at least judging by the sheer number of characters on the screen. Also, are those 2D character sprites in 3D environments, or are the characters 3D models with fancy filters making them LOOK like they’re 2D?

  • KyoyaHibari

I think I’m starting to grasp how it works (I think). You choose a the character you control along with 2 partners that are also playable characters, but are controlled by the CPU, you then choose about 10 additional yokai used for powering up your 3 man team and for support attacks as well. As for the “morale” bar, (or the Fear bar in this case) you lose Fear if one of your partners loses a life (but I think they have infinite lives or something) but the character you control doesn’t affect the Fear bar after being hit, so if both partners die I guess that means the opponent wins. But then again, I’m not sure, but I think there must be some sort of life for the player character, maybe it could be like JUS and the character fades to let you know when they are low on health, but I haven’t actually seen any player characters die.

Scratch that, I keep getting so enticed with the visuals and special attacks that I forget to look out for how the game works. Ok so I noticed during Yura’s special, she downed the Multi arm guy and he lost some Fear, but there was no indication of a “Winner” sign like with Rikuo’s 1st special where he beat them all, so everyone has infinite lives, you judge a character’s health by how they look (like Jump except instead of fading they flash yellow and occasionally have sweat drops flashing out) and you basically knock them all out until the Fear gauge is completely one-sided, then you win the match. It’s similar to SSB I suppose with the “get them to a high enough % to knock them out” style, it looks like some intense battles are going to ensue! So it’s SSB X Jump X ASW fighting engine X Nura, looks SWEET!

Thanks for posting this. I came to the same conclusion after watching the videos several times. I’m glad to see there are other people really interested in this too.

Yea, no problem, it looks really amazing, I thought I should make an analysis on how the game functions (from what I estimate) since there hasn’t been any topics on how the game functions yet.
