We don’t know what happened to the Nintendo 3DS Chocobo Racing game, but you can ride and race giant birds in Final Fantasy XIII-2. Producer Yoshinori Kitase confirmed chocobo racing as one of the features in the upcoming RPG. Previous Final Fantasy titles had many mini-games and while Final Fantasy XIII did not, Kitase wants to bring those back with Final Fantasy XIII-2.
Chocobo racing will be one of the mini-games. The team is also creating a casino and an area to host these elements.
Kitase, during a Play Live session at Tokyo Game Show, stressed the team wanted to make Final Fantasy XIII-2 non-linear. Using the Historia Crux system, players can travel through time and even challenge bosses a second time with stronger characters.
Missed Final Fantasy XIII? A "Lost Report" will get newcomers up to speed with the story of the previous title.
