Nanashi No Game, Square Enix’s Cursed RPG, Getting Prequel?

By Spencer . September 22, 2011 . 8:06am

Nanashi No Game, Square Enixs Cursed RPG, Getting Prequel?Square Enix filed a trademark in Japan that may be connected to their cult hit Nanashi no Game (Nameless Game). Created for the Nintendo DS, Nanashi no Game was like a role playing version of The Ring. After playing an evil 8-bit RPG, players have to switch between the real world and the Famicom style video game to break the curse.

Nanashi no Aru Pre which would be A Certain Pre- Without a Name in English was registered by Square Enix and sounds connected to their horror game series. Could the "Pre" be for prequel? That would make sense and perhaps give the Nanashi no series a chance in the West.

Square Enix considered releasing the Nintendo DS titles in North America, but after a focus test they canned plans to do so.

    I so hope this time the game does not stay only in Japan. No more listening to the focus testers that only play Call of Duty. I would really like to see what could be thought up if a new Nameless Game could come out on the Vita. Because I think the Vita could make the 8-bit parts really shine.

    I really believe games like this could survive. Because look at 999 for the DS that game was great but had Aksys allowed focus testers to play the game more likely then not the game wouldn’t have come out. So I hope with the success of that game a new Nameless Game has a better chance to get a localization.

      The series started on the DS, shouldn’t it continue on the 3DS? The game looks like it doesn’t need a lot of power, putting it on the vita would be a waste.

        Putting it on a more powerful system wouldn’t make it a waste whether it took full advantage of it or not. I agree that it should continue on 3DS since it started on DS, but your reasoning as to why doesn’t really make sense.

        The PS3 and 360 can pump out Crysis 2-looking games all day, does that mean that the available horsepower should only be used for photorealistic graphics?

        To the OP: what about the Vita would make 8-bit graphics stand out anymore than the 3DS, might I ask? I’m not saying you’re wrong, just asking what about it would make it stand out.

    Another 3DS goodness. Come on Nintendo and SQ. We on the west also wanted new RPG. Don’t u said that we don’t want this kind of game again.

    Give us new things.

    A Squeenix franchise not released in the US? I never thought it possible. Damn focus group ¬¬

      We missed out on quite a few DS Square games. It was probably the software saturation, but I will always morn that we never got more Chocobo games. ;__;

      Yes, it should be interesting to use them for certain experiments with the human body. How far can they tolerate pain?

    I wish nothing but misery upon everyone from that focus group.

      from what the voices in my head tell me, they all died because they didn’t finish the game and just shrugged it off.

      serves them right.

      i hope the fan translation of Nanashi no Game comes out soon though.
