By Spencer . September 23, 2011 . 12:00pm

Castlevania: Harmony Of Despair With Couch Co op Coming To PSN Next WeekIt’s been a long time coming, but Castlevania: Harmony of Despair will finally be available for PlayStation 3. The multiplayer Castlevania game will have additional content for PlayStation Network. Paid downloadable characters Julius Belmont and Yoko Belnades are included as part of the PS3 version plus the Pyramid of Ruin map.

Perhaps, the defining difference between consoles is Castlevania: Harmony of Despair has local cooperative play that supports up to four players. You can also play online with a full party of six vampire hunters.

Konami announced over Twitter, Castlevania: Harmony of Despair will be (re-)launches in North America on September 27.

4 player local co-op sounds nice

wait wait wait. can someone please confirm if XBLA will get an update to all local co-op too? this is why i didn’t play this game. i need local

I think Local its only for PSN

    • http://www.facebook.com/VeryMadMage Mick Synodis

The xbox version is very unlikely to be updated.

This. There’s no freaking reason to hold out such a useful feature on those of us who actually supported the game on its rocky and initial release. =(

      • malek86

As Sony requires exclusive extra features for post-poned PSN releases, there are effectively no chances of local co-op being added to the XBLA version.

Sucks, but what can you do. It’s just another of those “play sooner or play more” trade-offs that have become so commonplace this gen.

FINALLY Damn, been waiting since Last Month.

    [edit]
…Well, actually been waiting for a year, but I meant since the announcement of it being released for Summer.

If the price is decent, I may have to do this. It’ll play better on the HD monitor my PS3′s hooked up to anyway.

  • Advent_Andaryu

I have been waiting for this for well over a year! I’m so relieved Konami isn’t delaying and sticking to their “sometime in September” release plans. Now I hope they add new content via DLC, such as Hammer, Albus, and Juste.

I wonder if Konami is gonna do anything special for the Castlevania Anniversary?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Wayne-LaBranch/100002132711844 Wayne LaBranch

I hope they do, but i can’t see what.  Maybe a new Castlevania : 0 (made by the original team >.> <.<)

      • Advent_Andaryu

We definitely need a new traditional Castlevania. It’s been too way too long.

I played Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth when it first came out for WiiWare. It was pretty good, more games like that please. (also why isn’t this game on the PSN?)

          • http://www.facebook.com/Ghaleonh41 Jason Handley

I agree. But we need a new CastleVania game that blends the new with the old and doesn’t restrict what your character can and cannot do to make the game harder. Chronicles and Super CastleVania are good examples of this.

I am SO glad I waited. I prefer playing stuff like this with the PlayStation’s controller by a large margin.

  • http://twitter.com/VidyaGentleman Michelangelo

Will this be for europe too? Because if it isn’t i am killing someone!

  • Natat

About time, Konami. But still very excited for it, I waited over a year to play it, after all!

  • LustEnvy

This game aided in my breaking up with my last gf. I was hooked. Glad to see PSN gamers will get a chance to lose hours upon hours on Hard Ch. 6. XD

360 gamers: No reason to hope for an update as this game is pretty much dead on the 360.

tip: Don’t be part of the bandwagon, try Shanoa, Charlotte, and Johnathan. 99% of the players ARE gonna use just Soma and Alucard with blenders. I used everyone (though I didn’t particularly spend time with Charlotte, nor did I play the DLC).

    • YoshTripleTails

Game is far from dead. I find people to play with all day.

      • LustEnvy

Last few times of me playing, it took forever to find players, and when I did it was one or two, and that’s it. No more full rooms.

I’m so mad that all my data is saved on said ex-gf’s 360. I had all the good loot. Wishing cloud servers existed last year for the 360. XD

Jonathan’s my favorite Castlevania character, so I’ll try to add some variety! Him and Charlotte made Portrait of Ruin my favorite Castlevania game.

      • LustEnvy

Just make sure to hop in to versus mode, so you can grind the Ch. 1 boss and level Jonathan’s (and Shanoa) sub-weapons up. It will take an eternity to make Johnathan worthwhile, but it does pay off. He’s very fun to use, just tedious to make him a serious character. In comparison, Soma and Alucard are good a little too quickly.

I wish the PSN version lessened the amount of sub-weapon grinding needed for Jon and Shanoa. They take an eternity… so much that it’s a big reason why people don’t use them. It’s illogical for the most part. You can spend maybe an hour or two making Soma and Alucard amazing, or spending DAYS making Shanoa, and ESPECIALLY Jonathan strong enough to be HALF as good as Soma and Alucard on a bad day. And that’s if you chea grind Versus mode. If you don’t… good luck making them strong in this lifetime by playing normally.

Its all about being Jon and Shanoa, they are hands down the best characters…. for pros.

      • LustEnvy

Shanoa with dual Pneuma-spamming ftw. XD

  • Daniel13789

What I’m still curious about is how the couch co-op will play out. Split-screen or single-screen?

    • Advent_Andaryu

I want to know as well. I imagine the screen will stretch out the further the characters get from each other. I just can’t see it being split screen given the style of the game.

  • vrakanox

This game rocks. Played it a ton on the 360 and now I’m excited to jump back into it on the PS3.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Alexis-Smith/100002359005831 Alexis Smith

Was it really good enough to buy twice? You make me curious…

      • vrakanox

IMO yes. However I’m also a HUGE Castlevania fan. It’s one of my favorite game series. Also now you don’t have to pay for xbox live to play it :)

  • http://soulcaster.gametrailers.com/gamepad/index.php [§oulÇaster]

Hopefully this won’t be too costly… really in need of a IGA Castlevania fix and since it does not seem like he will be making a new game anytime soon, this will have to do till then.

Anyway, if I end up getting it (which I’m pretty sure I will… lol) I’ll be looking forward to playing as Soma Cruz and Shanoa.

    thank you konami :D

Well todays date is 10/08/11 and after reading 100 pages of reviews on this game WHERE CAN YOU ACTUALLY BUY IT for PS3? Konami said its at BestBuy, Wal-Mart, Gamestop, etc… Yet I cant find anybody who’s carrying it… As a 1980′s baby, Castlevania is mandatory for my bloodstream! I need to collect hearts! lol… Would love some help here!
