Make A School, Sengoku Or Sci-Fi RPG With New RPG Maker

By Spencer . September 28, 2011 . 12:02pm

Make A School, Sengoku Or Sci Fi RPG With New RPG MakerEnterbrain has a new version of RPG Maker for Nintendo DS and the highlight of RPG Maker Plus is it has new tiles.

RPG Maker Plus lets players create stories set in modern times like a school, during the Warring States or Sengoku era, or in a sci-fi universe (complete with probing table!). Or combine all three with a time traveling story. Famitsu has a look at the extra scenery and character costumes.

RPG Maker Plus will be available on December 15 in Japan.

Please make an RPG Maker for the PS3 and 360 Enterbrain.  Maybe the consoles this gen will finally get some good RPGs then.

I’d say if they did make an RPG Maker for this gen of consoles, allow the script to be easy to develop for like it was in RPG Maker 3, yet make the creation system as detailed as it was in RPG Maker 2.

Then make some way that we can save our games and message them as attachments to our friends.

      ^ A thousand times, this!

I would LOVE to play this. Especially being on the DS, so I can make RPGs in all their 2D, sprite-based glory.

    *sigh* I love SNES and GBA-style graphics…

    • GoldenRoses

Those sprite graphics are very charming (and cute!) XD

I’d like to see this with a version of Ao Oni included.

Sure would be nice if we got this one.

I’m just not surprised. I think they’re underestimating the potential of RPG Maker by making it an in-game application (again). It’s like trying to create a compelling story with cutscenes and all in the Dissidia 012 quest maker (good luck with the text box character limit). Instead, if they made a PC program with similar or the same capabilities than RPG Maker 2003/XP AND it was able to export games to, say, NDS and PSP (of course they could add support for more consoles if they wanted), it would sell like hotcakes (I wouldn’t mind it being more expensive if it’s good). A PC program just gives you more freedom, speed (does anyone like typing on consoles?) and the ability to create and import your own RTP (graphics, music, sounds, etc.). I know it’s interesting to see what you can do to overcome the limits of the game and still keep your ideas… but once it gets old it’s just annoying, even for old-school style games.

Well they do have RPG Maker VX, which came out like 4 years ago, that you can make port game code for XBLIG and I think for iOS and Android as well. Unfortunately, there isn’t an easy way to port it to PSN, yet. But I do like that idea of porting a game to PSP/Vita or DS/3DS.

I think this would totally be worth a purchase

if they would like to bring it over o 3o

Has anything worthwhile ever been created with these games?

    • http://twitter.com/manasteel88 Mana

Marvel Brothel, but that depends on if you actually believe a brothel sim involving superheroes is indeed worthwhile.

There are some pretty good games over on the various PC versions.  Oh, you meant one of these versions.  Right…um…yeah.  For one thing, it’s hard to distribute games on a format like DS so unless you’re doing it for the laughs, it isn’t worth the waste of time.

    • Dokurochan

The original PC version of Corpse Party was made using a PC version of RPG maker.

Yume Nikki was made from RPG Maker 2003.

    K, I got this:

“You’re a student who falls asleep in class and wakes up in the Sengoku era only to discover it has been taken over by futuristic aliens.”

I shall call my game: “Gintama: The RPG”.

    • Okuni-chan

I would play this for the giggles XD

Hoping that this will release in America and Europe as well. You can never forget about Europe. It’s not fair.

  • JustThisOne

I’ve never really been familiar with RPG maker, but if it’s on the DS – how do I share it with other people?

    • theworldofnoboundries

U need willpower to share them with others!!!

      • JustThisOne

Not just any will power. Dying Will Power.

  • dragoon_slayer12

    I would’ve love for a 3ds version

    • theworldofnoboundries

      Me too.

  • skymap

Okay, now make a sequel to XP.

    • Justin

      RPG Maker VX doesn’t count?

      • http://www.falgram.com/ Falmung

Yup. That’s the sequel. Sequel on the pc = same game with more sprites and some few new options. I wish they would make an rpg maker in the quality of 2 or 3 and beyond. I’m dying for a next gen rpg maker.

  • theworldofnoboundries

Well seing this is released on DS i believed it will be quite difficult to send to my friends but hell this RPG Maker. The game that could fulfill gamers dream of creating his own game even when he don’t know how to do programing.

Hope this come to west and i will surely pay for this game.

    • http://www.falgram.com/ Falmung

I own RPG Maker 2 and 3. Never was able to find 1. Well 1, without keyboard would be kinda hard. A lot of great games have been released on the internet by a lot of creative people. If only enterbrain were to make a next gen rpg maker already then it would bring around a whole new amount of great games. But they have to learn from games like little big planet and adapt.

Just as all the DS games before it, this game will probably 100% not come to the US.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=685220688 Vince Vazquez

What’s the point of this? Without an online infrastructure in place to share this stuff, it’s kind of just a huge waste of time. Just wait until you learn about the PS3, Enterbrain – it’ll blow your mind. You’ll probably hear about it in 6 years or so, maybe?

    • http://myanimelist.net/profile/Kuronoa Kuronoa

iirc the previous DS RPG Maker does let you share through Nintendo Wifi.  No doubt same here.

    • http://www.falgram.com/ Falmung

When the PS3 came out Enterbrain was furious with the price of the PS3 and the development price and announced they would not make any rpg maker games for it if I remember correctly. Now the PS Vita, considering better development tools and easier programming they might just go for a rpg maker there. RPG Maker for PC just plain sucks. Its always the same one with just more sprite models. Give me a 3d graphics rpg maker already.
