To anyone interested in getting a beginner-level real-time strategy I’m am begging you to pick up GrimGrimoire. That is such a criminally overlooked game. It’s a such a good little gem.

I’ll probably be picking up all 6 games when I get the payed, but for now I can barely afford one.

    • http://twitter.com/Linka13 Linka

I intend on getting GrimGrimoire and God Hand sometime, but I decided to start out my efforts with Odin Sphere until I get another PSN card. Very beautiful game though, but definitely brutal, even on Easy. It’s great to be able to play this now though, especially since my PS2 memory card mysteriously vanished.

      • Solomon_Kano

I started with Odin Sphere too! It really is a beautiful game. I don’t think I’ve fallen in love with a game this quickly since Rogue Galaxy.

      • http://twitter.com/Pedazodezoquete Gabriel

Grimgrimoire was the first thing I got when I returned to work! Lovely, really wonderful! I’ll buy them all, except ring of red, I can’t wait for mroe wonderful rare gems to show up! I just loaded 200 dollars into my wallet lol but 10 went to Space channel, this has been a fantastic psn store update

  • http://twitter.com/FaithlessMr Bruno Silva

Now this is absolutely great! As cheap as they come. You won’t find a new copy of Odin Sphere selling in Europe for as low as that. I’ll definitely get it Sony implements this new feature in old continent’s psn stores.

    • malek86

“You won’t find a new copy of Odin Sphere selling in Europe for as low as that”

Wait, you mean it’s a rare game? I didn’t know that. I definitely remember seeing a few new copies for €10 around here, maybe I should pick one up. There was also that time when I saw a used copy of God Hand for 5€ (when online it goes for 20-25€), though I didn’t buy it because I already had it.

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

Yeah…Europe didn’t get a lot of Vanilla love.

      • http://twitter.com/FaithlessMr Bruno Silva

Yeah, it actually is. You’ll find some copies here and there but it’s a rare event.

  • http://twitter.com/Laith_Rem Laith Rem

Picking Grimgrimoire and God Hand when I buy the $20 PSN card. My GG disc is scratched and I never played GH and heard awesome things about it.

  • http://twitter.com/Linka13 Linka

I love this service already– you’re not going to find any of these games in reliable condition for $10. The best you’ll get for Odin Sphere and GrimGrimoire on Amazon is $20+, and while I still might get GrimGrimoire sometime for my PS2 collection, I’m definitely finding more use from having a copy of it on my PS3, since I can’t find my PS2 memory card. In-system memory truly is a wonder, sometimes.

  • PersonaBull

I’m playing Odin Sphere right this moment and I must say, it may not be upscaled to HD but it’s definitely better than a PS2 plugged into my HDTV. Just started, so I still don’t know if the slowdown is still a problem, but so far this is absolutely beautiful. It’s well worth the $10 if you want to add on a couple more years to being able to play Odin Sphere without having to resort to an emulator.

    But man, that download took forever~ ;o;

    • malek86

From what I’ve heard, these are essentially the same as running the disc on a BC PS3, so you get the scaling and smoothing.

  • Saraneth

Make PS2 games available for vita and include Atlus games and KH and I will buy Vita day one.

    • Advent_Andaryu

Hasn’t the Vita already been confirmed to be able to play PSN games?

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/LanceHeart-Gothann/100001221004405 LanceHeart Gothann

Only PSOne Classics and PSP games via PSN. No word on PS3′s PSN games and (obviously) nothing on PS2 Classics yet.

      • http://www.twitter.com/Celedin Celedin

I think it’s been mentioned that it -could- play PSN games but it would be on a game-by-game basis rather than supporting everything.

  • Aoshi00

The games are definitely cheap even to rebuy.. but if it doesn’t have graphics updates or trophies, I would just play the PS2 games on my B/C PS3 as I still have them.. the thing is my old Phat’s fan was loud so I haven’t really touched it, so it would be cool to play on the Slim.. would be nice if they bundle Grim Grimoire and Odin Sphere as a HD remake w/ trophies like Ico or GoW Origins though.. most of those collection come out as $40 but later drop to $20 soon..

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

A PS2 game on the old PS3′s makes the fan kick into high gear?

      • http://zerodestinypro.blogspot.com/ Zero_Destiny

Yeah. There’s nothing wrong with getting excited over this stuff. A good game is a good game. ^_^ For some people they’re really excited because they can now replay the games again. I know a lot of my PSN purchases were game I already owned. It just kinda gave me an excuse to play it all again if you know what I mean. lol

For others, the games that they missed out on are now available to them again. It’s a win for a lot of people. It’s not to say everyone is gonna be pleased because of a digital re-releases of old games but, like I said before: good games are good. There’s certainly a lot of us there who are just happy to see them again.

      • M’iau M’iaut

I’ve mentioned more than once the amount of gold that is in back cats. Not only do you get new folks buying in, collectors will gladly drop $10 to support their fav companies and keep their hard copies pristine while they still enjoy the game. I think many folks would note the extent of ‘our games’ was deeper  in the PS2s library. There just aren’t that many 20/60gigs and first gen 80s out there anymore.

      • Aoshi00

nah, PS3 games and blu-rays too (watching movies w/ the loud fan was especially annoying), after it’s on for 5 mins it would kick into high gear even w/ good ventilation.. I dunno just some problem w/ the fan, at first the Phat was extremely quiet the first year, then started happening after I upgraded the 80Gb to 320Gb before I think.. that’s why I got a Slim now (which also has been upgraded to over 500Gb right after I bought it but still quiet).. but I don’t have a US PS2 anymore (just a Jpn PS2), so I used the Phat to play PS2 games if I need to.  Still $10 to get this on PS2 is a bargain.. guess Odin Sphere would still have slow down though..

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

lol Dood, that’s exactly what I did. I got tired of my PS3′s loud noises and traded it to Sony for a PS3 120GB Slim.

          • Aoshi00

Yea, I really liked B/C and thought it was very important, but the loud fan just really got in the way of enjoying games and movies.. and now I have a Slim I don’t really miss B/C as much as I thought since I rarely play PS2 games lol.. but when I do it’s useful..  I got the Slim one Thanksgiving for about $200 after some credit..  my first PS3 cost me $600 though..

          • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

My PS3 was almost precious to me, but seeing as it was falling apart little by little, I had to finish ALL of the PS2 games I haven’t played yet, especially Sakura Wars SLML. :(

          • Aoshi00

My Sakura Wars is still in shrink wraps *.* (I used to think my friend was crazy for buying games and not opening them, now I know how it feels lol)… I got so much back log this gen I alrdy gave up on the last gen really.. and even w/o B/C, it doesn’t seem that important now w/ so many classic PS2 games being given HD collection treatment or now downloadable on PSN.. still, it was the best to have one machine being able to play all PS1/2/3 games w/ all the save files on the same console..

        • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Oh I was about to say, that would have been odd if it was for the games on PSN. Right now my PS3 only gets super loud when I play like Uncharted 2/3 or watch a really intense Blu-Ray movie.

    • eilegz

your old BC ps3 its dying i guesss.. be careful my friend

      • Aoshi00

Thanks, that’s why I replaced it w/ a Slim before. I had a feeling the HDD was about to fail or it was the console.. I just rarely use it these days unless I need to play PS2 games, which I really don’t do anymore..

  • thaKingRocka

I already own most of these games, but ten bucks is the perfect price point, and I may buy one just for support.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

So does this mean that PS2 games will finally become playable on the PS3? YAY! Release KOF XI, Tekken 4, Capcom Vs Snk 2, Ratchet and Clank, Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal, Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando, Ratchet: Deadlocked, Bloody Roar 3 and 4, Soul Calibur 2 and 3, Atelier Iris series, Mana Khemia 2, Devil May Cry 1-3, Digimon World 4, Final Fantasy XII, Front Mission 4, Kingdom Hearts 2, Monster Rancher 3 and 4, Okami, Virtua Fighter 4, so on, so on……..

Actually, I just don’t want them to stop releasing PS2 classics like they did with the Japanese PS Imports (I think they stopped that…..).

    • PK212

I heard there was talk of re-releasing the DMC series on PS3, which I am super excited for if it does happen :)

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

I guess it depends on if digital sales go well, really this unenhanced way seems like something niche developers/publishers that cant dedicate time to giving enhancements to their games can embrace. FFX HD probably rules out FFXII or even KH just receiving unmodified releases on PSN, especially, if they will follow FFX HD and being playable on two devices.

Okami seems like a waste considering its been released recently on Wii, right? R&C would be better suited to HD collections

      • Solomon_Kano

Okami definitely isn’t a waste, and it’s for the very reason you listed: it was re-released on the Wii. There’s a good amount of PS3 owners with no Wii, so I’d imagine there’d be a ton of appreciation for that seeing a re-release as a PS2 classic.

I agree with you on FFX HD affecting the manner that we’ll see XII and KH re-released in though.

    • http://twitter.com/Megawarrior345 Elle

They haven’t stopped the japan imports, it’s just they only add one (irrelevant game no one cares about) every other week.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

All dat Ratchet and Clank but no Jak and Daxter? I am disappoint.

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

Whoops. I forgot about those series. Silly me.

    • PrinceHeir

      KOFXI!!!!!!!

i want KOF2002 UM, Samurai Shodown Collection, Garou Mark of the Wolves, The Last Blade. and pretty much every Neo Geo Online Collection game(only on JPN PS2)

and Shadow Hearts Trilogy and we’re all set :P

  • http://tiny.cc/justintvbayorgasmic Genesis

Odin Sphere…oh how I love you! I wonder if the minor slowdowns were fixed

    • PrinceHeir

      Odin Sphere and GrimGrimoire FTW

for some reason i can’t stop looking at your avy O____O

  • http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/members/55321.html FinalArcadia

Yes. YES. YES! Let me catch up on old Atelier titles I missed next! And $9.99…wow, I’m really psyched for these PS2 Classics!

  • Advent_Andaryu

To anyone who is wondering, these play like PSOne games on the PS3. You can’t see your friends list or view the XMB while playing.

Aside from that, I love that they put them on the PSN. The graphics and resolution is fine, and no trophies is not a big deal at all.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/LanceHeart-Gothann/100001221004405 LanceHeart Gothann

You have to use PS2 Memory Cards and set them to slots 1 and 2, right?  If so, I may just grab God Hand since I’m scared of breaking my copy at this point.

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

LOL You can make any number of Memory Cards. If you want to transfer your old save data to the PS3, not happening, because the PS2 MC Adapters were discontinued, that is unless you can find a site that sells one.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/LanceHeart-Gothann/100001221004405 LanceHeart Gothann

That’s not what I meant. I already transferred my PS2 memcard data to my PS3, but I want to know if PS2 Classics actually USE the virtual PS2 memcards or save their data to PS3 save files.

          • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

Well yeah, same as digital PS1 memory cards compatible with PS1 downloaded games. It “should” work.

  • KaruCgSt

One of the sad parts of being a psp only user :( , maybe, just maybe, i will be able to play Odin Sphere on the Vita :´(

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

Actually, there’s a rumor that PS2 classics are going on the PSP as well. Got it from here:
      http://www.computerandvideogames.com/289103/psp-getting-ps2-classics-download-service/
Don’t know if it’s true or if it’s going to be true, but there is a slight amount of hope if the truth is still unknown, right?

      • KaruCgSt

Hope dies at last, im still waiting for PSP2 Infinity and Valkyria Chronicles 3 :(

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/LanceHeart-Gothann/100001221004405 LanceHeart Gothann

There’s literally no way the PSP is powerful enough to handle most PS2 games. PS Vita is a different story, but the PSP is missing quite a bit of horsepower to allow software emulation.

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

          Oh…..there goes my confidence again.

  • http://www.hamstapowah.com/ Zaron

I was super-excited for this until I found out Odin Sphere is strictly the PS2 version.  I was really hoping they nixed the slow-down and upped the resolution so it could shine ever so as it deserves to.

Upon learning it was just an emulation of the PS2 version I already own, I decided to try popping that into the PS2 to see if it could read the discs now like it can PSX games.  Still a no go.

So if emulation is working why can’t we just run our PS2 games on the PS3, since that’s exactly what the store is doing?

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Isnt it software emulation and not hardware emulation like first gen ps3′s?

      • http://www.hamstapowah.com/ Zaron

It is, but that really shouldn’t matter here.  An emulator on PC can run your on-disc games, so I don’t see why an emulator on Sony’s console that Sony wrote wouldn’t be able to as well.  PS2 games are just DVDs, after all.

        • Solomon_Kano

It doesn’t work like that because the original PS3s had BC through hardware emulation, so they were literally stronger PS2s. The current PS3s lack the Emotion Engine chip found in the original PS3s and the PS2…but you seem to understand all of that. So really, while they probably could write an emulator that reads the discs, that’d defeat the purpose of selling the games on PSN. That’s the most likely reason.

It’d be nice, but this is part of their “Only on PSN” marketing and letting you use the physical copy from years past would kind of undermine the idea of it being ONLY on PSN.

        • malek86

Because they want to make some money off this thing. Simple as that.

I don’t really support this notion, but whatever. I still have a PS2, so I don’t need to re-buy the games I already have, anyway.

      • Solomon_Kano

        It is indeed.

  • z_merquise

I hope I still have $10 left in my PSN account so I can at least get 1 game for now.

I’m planning to get God Hand first. To anyone who downloaded it, how was it? Is it as good as it was in PS2 or did it had issues or slowdowns?

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

Please answer his/her (don’t know your gender. Sorry!) question, as I have a question as well lol. How is the game played? That’s all I want to know, if anyone is willing to answer.

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

        Madworld+Resident Evil, only faster.

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

Thanks for answering MY question, but quoted from the last response by z_merquise:

“Is it as good as it was in PS2 or did it had issues or slowdowns?”

          • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

Given that it was emulated, this version may still have the same problems it had before. I’ve seen God Hand played and I don’t think it had any slow-downs at all.

          • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamek20xxExtra?feature=mhee Michael Stevens

Thanks for answering both of our questions! Really appreciated!

  • http://backloggery.com/wanderingmind WanderingMind

I was just reminded why I got rid of Maximo.  It’s just too unforgiving for my tastes.  Not really a fan of having to get a lot of coins just to use a save point.

I already have GrimGrimoire, God Hand, and Odin Sphere, so the only game I’m going to get is Ring of Red.

I don’t know everyone but Shadow heart 2 please XD

    • fayt255

I Just started playing Shadow Heart 2 on my PS2.

      • Testsubject909

I like you… That and you’ve got the name of a character from Star Ocean 3 (Screw the people who couldn’t understand the nature of the existential question that was put at hand and calls it a ripoff of a movie whose similarities are relatively minimal).

Enjoy the tale of Yuri. And if you cry, know that it’s alright.

        • fayt255

Yeah tri-ace is my favorite developer, I never would have gotten into RPGs without running across SO2

I don’t care about HD resolution or trophies. What I care is Sony putting up the great games of the PS2-era and if the price keeps at 10 dollars each I’ll be buying a lot of those re-releases

  • Okuni-chan

    10$!?!?! My wallet is rea–… Uh Gimme till payday and my wallet will be ready ._.;

I’ll be picking up Odin Sphere as soon as I get the chance, followed shortly by Grim Grimoire and God Hand. :D

I can’t wait to see what they put up next!

  • Go2hell66

    Getting grimgrimoire and odinsphere 1st

  • Solomon_Kano

I bought Odin Sphere as soon as I got home today. Fvck HD, it looks great on my TV. Missed out on it originally, but I’m enjoying the hell out of it now.

Also: having not played a PS2 game since like…07, I nearly had a heart-attack from the nostalgia when the “PlayStation 2″ showed up and made the sound effect when I started the game. Good day.

    • Gatchaman1

2D like Odin Sphere wouldnt really benefit much from HD anyway. That mainly helps the 3D games (if remastered correctly)

      • Solomon_Kano

I recall reading somewhere that Vanillaware’s art for their games is actually stored at a higher resolution than what’s displayed though, so it could benefit. That would be more work for a game that already looks great but, if they actually remade it, it could look better. If what I read is true, that is.

        • mikanko

It is, all their sprites are initially in an HD resolution before being scaled down.

          • Solomon_Kano

            Ah. I thought so.

I wonder how much easier/more difficult that would make an HD remake if they actually did one? I dunno how all that works, but it certainly sounds easier.

          • mikanko

It’s far more theoretically possible than trying to HDify PS2 NIS games or something.  Getting it approved, and being that Atlus was the publisher and probably holds the license, are probably hurdles as it’s hard to know how much they’d see something like that making.

Now that they’re making Dragon’s Crown it’s evident they have the capability of developing in HD, but I’m sure it’d still take some polish to re-release some of those games at higher native resolutions.  I kinda wish their properties weren’t stretched between so many publishers as I imagine it’d make it easier to get Muramasa/Odin Sphere etc. HD ports.

            The games look plenty beautiful as they are though simply upscaled via an emulator.  That, and since I can play the PAL version with reduced slowdown off PC emulator is probably why I’ll be passing on these. <.<;

Might buy them just to show my support though, when I have more change bouncing in my pockets, but if these are played just the same as the US releases via PS2 backwards compatibility on early PS3s, I doubt I'd take them over PC emulation.

          • Solomon_Kano

Buy them to show support! Buy them to show support! lol.

I certainly understand that it’s unlikely to happen, so I was just curious as to how difficult it would be for them to re-release their games in HD if it were to happen. If we can just get all of their PS2 games on PSN in their original form I’ll still be plenty happy.

Agreed on the multiple publishers deal. I’d certainly like to believe that if they were all under Atlus (or some like-minded single entity) the chances of us seeing them released in HD would be higher, but it seems we’ll never know. Really, Muramasa is the only one I want in HD. The rest should be fine as-is, judging by Odin Sphere (which really means Muramasa would be too, but I want it in HD anyway lol).

I don’t know how Odin Sphere played originally (I’ve heard tons about the slow-down), but insofar I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how short the load times are. I’m still pretty early on in the game so that could change, but this is faster than I remember any PS2 games ever loading so I’m thinking that the software emulation may have a leg up on the BC PS3′s hardware emulation.

          • mikanko

Don’t really remember the loading times being a problem.  It’s mainly when you get to boss fights the slowdown is kinda retarded to the point you feel like something might be wrong with your system.

The PAL version isn’t perfect either, but it was much improved.  If I hear confirmation they used that version I’d be much more inclined to snatch it up. Though if not, and it does see release on the PAL store, I’d prolly prefer making an EU PSN account and go that route.

            Then again, it’s not confirmed these are region free, though I hope so.  I’ll buy it to show support down the road one way or another, but if the game looks and plays better emulated off PC … <.<;

            It's kinda like the dusty copy of Murumasa I have when I'd rather play it emulated looking pretty at higher res off PC than on a Wii.  I'd just love to see it get re-released so maybe a publisher can actually finish localizing it a 2nd time. ^^;

          • mikanko

            All PSN releases are region free <.<;

So, I'd hope for these to be too.

          • Solomon_Kano

Ah. Well, I hope it’s the PAL version as well then. Either way I’ve already bought it, so it wouldn’t change anything for me, but that’d be nice. If these are the original load times, then wow. Vanillaware did great with that, because I remember games like GTA taking days to load lol.

Considering that most PSN releases (to my knowledge) aren’t region free, I wouldn’t expect these to be either. I could be completely off base though. I understand not wanting to go back to the PS2 version if you’ve played it in a superior fashion though. It’s like going back to MGS3 after playing Subsistence. You could do it, but why pass on all the improvements? So I get it. I just want to see as many people support this as possible so it doesn’t die off or hit a massive drought or something lol.

          • Solomon_Kano

Had no idea they were all region free. Just assumed they wouldn’t be since we see things released to each store with huge time gaps. Huh. Ya learn something new everyday.

          • mikanko

Yeah, other than yen conversion being a li’l bad, there’s not much reason not to be active on the JP store if you do a lot of gaming on your PS3.  I probably have something like 10 or so JP PS1 games and stuff like Malicious and Dark Awake that aren’t on the US store.

Just have to buy yen cards off playasia or ebay etc.

          • Solomon_Kano

Hm…I’ve been holding out on getting things off the JP PSN. So much good stuff! But yea, that exchange rate is no joke. The game I want the most is Malicious and Alvion themselves gave me reason to hold off on it by saying that they were looking into bringing the PS Vita version outside of JPN. Considering it’s still a PSN title, I’d imagine that they’d bring the PS3 version as well. If it happens, that is.

          • mikanko

I really <3 Malicious, but it's only 800 yen, so can be had for 15$'ish for a 1000 yen point card (which is overpriced, but eh!).

I think it'd be great on the Vita in principle as it's basically a game of short boss rushes.  It can be pretty hard if you go for S ranks, and I definitely think I prefer the dual shock over any handheld controls.

Technically there are only actions that need 8 buttons mapped, but I just prefer having the extra L and R buttons for some things as it frees my thumbs from having to use L3 and R3.  I guess Vita will have to use the back touch panel, but I can't imagine it feeling as precise.

          • Solomon_Kano

Well, I’m thinking under the hope that the Vita version coming over means that the PS3 version will too because I want the PS3 version. If they only bring the Vita version then that’s what I’ll get, but if they bring both…well, I’m not picking a handheld version of a title when I can have it at home and take it with me by remote play anyway.

I may end up springing for the JPN version anyway though. Does it have a lot of text? That’d be problematic.

          • mikanko

Not really.  There’s like a paragraph of story that’s unnecessary for playing the game.  The only thing having it English would be good for is the tutorial bits. As I said the game’s controls are a little unorthodox and take getting used to.

Watching someone S rank the game without healing for the gold trophy over Nico Nico will probably give you a better idea of how you’re supposed to be playing the game than those anyways.  There are also threads on gamefaqs or neogaf where the controls are explained.

          • Solomon_Kano

Ok. That’s great then. I’ll probably end up getting it sometime soon. Actually…who knows when. Tons of games coming in English already, so I’ll probably have to put that off til like early next year.

  • hush404

Yay :) Nice to see us not get gouged :)

  • Gatchaman1

Japan PSN has not been updated with this. I wonder what they are planning or if this is a US/EU only thing.

I would like to see if they do get it, will JPN PS2 games now be region free…

Also that Godhand cover is not the one I remember

So many wonderful gems people may have overlooked, I’m eager to see Haunting grounds so more people get to play it and hopefully capcom will release a new clock tower game, mostly everything by Atlus  would be nice too and Growlanser, the one released by Working designs and the one released by Atlus, so many wonderful games I’ve missed that I’d love to play, perfect time now to go out and buy a new hard drive for my PS3 120 gigas won’t be enough

    • Solomon_Kano

I need a new hard drive as well. Some kind of way I’m still at 40 gigs, but that’ll probably be gone by the end of the month with everything that’s come out within the last week or two.

      • leeorv

I’m about to overfill my 500GB drive I put instead of my original 80, lol!

        • Solomon_Kano

Wow. You must download a TON of stuff then lol.

          • leeorv

Well, I have PS+ and am a strong believer of digital purchase (full games, not DLC) and make good use of sony’s never ending stream of quality content and special offers

And I also borrow and gameshare with a few hardcore friends :-)

          • Solomon_Kano

I gameshare as well. I don’t have PS+, but every now and then something pops up on PSN that I just have to get (MVC2, Scott Pilgrim, Odin Sphere, etc.) so I try to make good use of all the quality content Sony’s been delivering as well. If I had PS+ my HDD would’ve been long gone though lol.

      • http://twitter.com/Pedazodezoquete Gabriel

lol I can’t believe you’ve managed so far with just 40gigs! but now there are just so many great games, so now it’s the perfect time for us to go out and buy a new hdd!

        • Solomon_Kano

Well, it was originally 120 but that 80 gigs went away within like the last 2 weeks lol. So yea, now’s definitely the time now.

  • http://twitter.com/salarta salarta

… I didn’t see God Hand available on the U.S. PSN when I checked an hour ago. Is it delayed in the U.S., or am I just not looking in the right place?

Edit: Nevermind, I just went back onto it and found the section hidden away in a Playstation 2 Classics sub-subsection.

    • Solomon_Kano

I see the edit, so I know you found it, but where did you look before? At the top of the store you could’ve found it under “Only on PSN”. Not trying to heckle you or anything, jus’ saying lol.

  • Guest

I will Dragon kick your ass to the milky way if you don’t buy God Hand cabron!

Not interested , I can just boot up my PS2 to play it again

    • Testsubject909

True, but give it a bit of encouragement.

For the games which are too niche and too rare or low profile to get enough support (monetary support) to get an HD remake, they can find their way here on PSN, where they’ll basically be digitally eternalized and available for all to enjoy, thus opening the doors wide open to help educate some of our more wayward kin of gaming.

Also it increases the fanbase of a gaming series which in turn increases the possible demands for it’s continuation or for more of the same, which in turn can mean many things. An HD remastering, a sequel, a spiritual sequel, Vita or PS3… So yeah.

  • neo_firenze

I’ve seen lots of discussion of the Vanillaware games and God Hand, but to mention the other two…

Maximo is really great stuff, as long as you can handle a difficult game.  Such charm and clever level design though. It’s Demon’s Souls level brutal though, despite the cartoony look.

Ring of Red… they should pay YOU $9.99 to play this game.  I bought it when it released in the early days of PS2, and was sorely disappointed despite the cool concept.  The game is just SO slow, with transitions to an awful cutscene for every attack in the slow paced strategy game.  It’s positively excruciating.

I still own 4/5 of these, and I’m not a fan of the blurry smeared look of PS2 games running on PS3 on an HDTV, so I’ll stick with my PS2 on a SDTV.  But it’s a nice way for people to have access to some good niche games they may have missed out on for a reasonable price.

    • http://twitter.com/Cudgeon Raji

I kinda liked Ring of Red even tough I needed multiple attempts to actually play it. ;) The first 2-3 times I stopped after I just couldn’t figure out the correct controls of the action part in the turtorial :P

  • MrRobbyM

I’ve been meaning to play GrimGrimoire.

  • fayt255

The only one I want is Grimgrimoire I already have Odin Sphere so no need to buy the same game twice.

  • SirRichard

Not on the EU Store yet, dammit.

  • eilegz

as much as i like ps2 games on psn store for those who could not play it before, it could be better if they update ps3 firmware to allow me to use my ps2 disc….

    • Testsubject909

I got an old 80GB PS3 Fat. I can play my old PS2 discs.

  • Kitestwinblades

I would have preferred to have this flexibility with the Vita, but what the hell, only 10 bucks for some sweet games is a steal.

But now I’m confused… are they really JUST emulated? WTF!? Then it IS kinda like being gyped at the same time >._<

    • http://twitter.com/nozomi429 Nozomi

That’s most likely exactly why they were released. People are so shocked/angry that they are only emulated because of the recent trend of remastering certain PS2 titles in HD (RE4, MGS, FF10). PS2 titles released on PSN are simply treated exactly the same way as the original PlayStation titles.

      • Kitestwinblades

That’s a good point! I was kinda okay with it because they were in HD, had trophies and a great bit of games bundled up as collections. But when they start doing that without any kind of enhancement at all, It kinda feels like I should be able to put my old PS2 games into the PS3.

But thats only the “should be” factor of the situation. I completely agree that theres no problem with $10 digital re-releases of PS2 games. Lets just hope they do put an emulator on the Vita because that would just be Amazing.

        • Testsubject909

That’s the attitude! A good one too.

Having it available digitally is by no means a bad thing. The physical copy will still remain a collector’s item and to top it off, the fanbase for these games can only grow from now on.

Sure we’ll occasionally stumble on the idiot who can’t do jack crap on the game, but we’ll also be spreading the fanbase amongst other things. A larger fanbase means a higher demand. A higher demand means more profit. More profit means a series is more likely to get the financial support for an HD remake, a sequel or spiritual sequel and one that could be made on either PS3 or PSV, with the latter enabling such to be far more likely thanks to the cheaper production costs.

Sony, you doing good in my book.

  • http://twitter.com/ExceptionL ExceptionL

wow PS2 Era is now “classic”. I’m starting to feel old.

    • Testsubject909

Dude… i went on PSN just a moment ago and my immediate reaction when I noticed “PS2 Classics”.

….U-WWHAAAAAA!???? … UUuuuWhaaaaaaaaa!??? ………..UUUUWHAAAAAA!???And I kept repeating that while I made my way to my laptop, to go on Siliconera, since it’s been a while since I went here. To check see if there was news about it. And certainly it did.

  • Loran Cehack

Anyone know if GrimGrimoire and Odin Sphere retains Japanese voice options?
