Aksys Confirms BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend For PS3 & Xbox 360

Aksys first announced BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend was coming to North America at E3 under its tentative title, Continuum Shift II Plus. At that time the game was only announced for PlayStation Vita. The publisher confirmed they will release the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions too.

When? The same day BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend is available for PlayStation Vita. In Japan, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend is a launch title for the system. Sony Computer Entertainment America have not set a release date for the handheld in North America.

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend adds Relius Clover as a new playable character along with the DLC characters from the previous game. All of the characters have been tweaked and rebalanced for Extend. Arc System Works also added team battles for online fights, new story scenarios, and Unlimited Mars mode for players seeking a challenge.

Arf arf arf arf arf arf arf!

        Hype dog FTW XD

      • http://strictlyapathy.comoj.com/ SoulArbiter

I see what you did there.

What a coincidence, I’m wearing my hype dog shirt! :D
Oh yes. Hype is indeed being. . .err, gotten? D:

  • Gunbladeuser

So this is no real sequel to Continuum Shift like that was to Calamity Trigger?
Meaning I can just get Calamity Trigger and then jump straight to Continuum Shift Extend without missing anything that’s only in Continuum Shift?

    • Solomon_Kano

Yea, this is to CS what Arcade Edition was to SFIV.

      • Yuzh

i know right, next its CS extend the extend version

        • Solomon_Kano

Let’s hope not lol. I see this being the last revision before the next real entry.

          • Yuzh

i hope you are right xD but wow Vita got really some big names to begin.

          • Solomon_Kano

Definitely. BlazBlue, Disgaea, and Uncharted right off the bat? That’s a great look.

    • http://twitter.com/SaiSomething Sairus Delaney

You can actually skip Calamity Trigger entirely. Continuum Shift Extend has a remastered version of CT’s story mode on the disk.
But yes, if you have only played CT you can juts go ahead with CSE’s story.

  • Solomon_Kano

There was no doubt in my mind that this would be coming. Still getting the Vita version though. I’ll get the next-next BlazBlue for my PS3.

  • http://twitter.com/EdgeKun Ed Powell

Having been listening (probably too much) to the Jin vs Tsubaki theme as well as Carl vs Relius theme (both have been uploaded to youtube) good lord am I ready for this disc. ;o; <3 Getting a new character and balance patch are like icing on the cake compared to new music~

I know, my priorities are suspect at this point. . . :P Seriously though, I wish more companies could do what Dissidia, KoF12, and SoulCal 4 did with their music DLC packs. :C

    • http://strictlyapathy.comoj.com/ SoulArbiter

I was waiting for a Jin vs Tsubaki theme. The inclusion of a Relius vs Carl theme had to be done too. I was hoping for a Valkenhayn vs Hakumen theme, to exemplify their heroic relationship from the Dark War.

      • http://twitter.com/EdgeKun Ed Powell

Yeah. There were a few more songs I was hoping for to be completely honest. (Valk vs Rachel, and Valk vs Hazama (although I suppose Nightmare Fiction could suffice there) Definitely not complaining though, as I’m really loving what we’re already getting. =)

As for what you said with Valk vs Haku, well. At this rate they may as well just have a “Six Heroes Theme” akin to Existence in GGXX, since each of the six heroes will probably end up playable at this rate!

        • http://strictlyapathy.comoj.com/ SoulArbiter

True. I like the idea of a Valk vs Rachel theme. A “Six Heroes Theme” like Daisuke made for the Assassins (Existence) would be a marvellous idea! However, we’d need Nine and Jubei for that to happen. DLC for these two perhaps?

      *KOF13

      • http://twitter.com/EdgeKun Ed Powell

No, I was actually referring to *KOF12. =P
I dunno about on PSN, but at least on the LIVE Marketplace there’s downloadable music packs for KOF12.

Is this going to be a free downloadable update, or am I going to have a to buy another disc?

    • http://nisemonokami.deviantart.com/ NiseKami

It’s been established that it’s disc only.

    • DemonicX

It’s not going to be dlc. They already confirmed it a little while back.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=749504598 Shane Guidaboni

:/ I picked up CS over the Summer. I should have known better.

  • http://www.genkaibreak.com Code

Even as a big Blazblue fan, they better be bringing more then just Relius to the plate with this, or I’ll just hold off for the next one o3o’ I mean some of the additions are nice like Makoto story T3T;; but I don’t think it’ll likely warrent the price tag, especially for people who picked up DLC characters already. Makes me curious how the pricing will be on it.

    • Solomon_Kano

“[...] along with the DLC characters from the previous game. All of the characters have been tweaked and rebalanced for Extend. Arc System Works also added team battles for online fights, new story scenarios, and Unlimited Mars mode for players seeking a challenge.”

That’s definitely more than Relius. I’d expect the pricing to be 30-40.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Wayne-LaBranch/100002132711844 Wayne LaBranch

Yup so things noone wanted, Stuff that could have been in the CS2 as a Patch and Story Scenarios that weren’t need for the original but let’s add them in so its new.  Best investment evah…

        • Solomon_Kano

I didn’t say whether or not any of it was necessary, just responded to him/her saying that they hope there’s more than just Relius.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Wayne-LaBranch/100002132711844 Wayne LaBranch

I know i still wanted to say it…but i hope they have add more characters as DLC (sadly but it would add more)

          • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

More DLC? More 7.99 dollar characters? No thanks. I’ll just take Relius, and wait for BB3.

          • Solomon_Kano

Ok. Yea, more characters would be nice…but not with the price they charge for em. That’s precisely why I waited out CS for whatever came after.

Luckily for me it was a revision and not just BB3 so I still get CS’ story.

      • http://www.genkaibreak.com Code

        To clarify I mean more character-wise then just Relius >w<; The other features are nice; but well if that's everything, I'll hold out til BB3. I wonder if there's any compensation or benefit for those who purchased DLC characters already though opo;

        • Solomon_Kano

Ah. Yea, no compensation. The whole point of this was to preempt the people who would’ve complained that there were things in the arcade updates that never made it to consoles.

Whether what they priced it at (as in not a free update like people keep saying it should be) agrees with what its worth is for you to determine, but this is certainly worth charging for with all the additions — even if those who bought CS + its DLC would disagree. Beyond the other stuff the addition of remastered scenarios from Calamity Trigger really make this like 2 games in one, so for them to offer compensation would be a poor business decision.

          • http://www.genkaibreak.com Code

Yeah looks like this is mostly targeting people who don’t have CT or CS. Mostly just curious if ASW will recognize/give any bonus to the people who picked up the DLC characters or not; or if the game will read that data at all. I’d figure at the very base people who picked up DLC will get there 2nd color set, and unlimited mode for in this game too, but tough to say. I’m mostly just watching to see how ASW handles it’s DLC, as it’ll dictate future purchases owo’

          • Solomon_Kano

Highly unlikely. They might have it recognize data though. If anything, all of that DLC stuff would probably be included — I mean, if they have all 3 DLC characters, why leave out something as trivial as costume colors? Though I suppose, by that same logic, that would be the very reason not to include it. *shrugs* If it’s not included, don’t expect anything for it.

Advice for future BlazBlue purchases (because this isn’t how all ASW games go, of course) or, rather, all fighting games: wait and see. This practice is nothing new.

    • mikanko

Early impressions have Tao as S tier though~

Gameplay changes are going to be closer to the differences between CT and CS in terms of scale compared to say CS and CS2. Agree though, and I kinda don’t see picking this up when it’ll likely hit stateside ’round the same time as Skullgirls, which is early 2012 now ><.

Maybe when it hits 20-30 clams on amazon.

      • http://www.genkaibreak.com Code

rar, I’m not too concerned about tiers, I played Tao day one, and I’ll continue to regardless of where she is zwz~! But yeah the fighting lineup is getting thick owo; Can’t wait for Skullgirls xwx~!

        • mikanko

Haha, I didn’t figure you would, I just mentioned it for taunting purposes.

Tongue planted in cheek ‘n all.

Though my proficiency with Tsubaki is kinda weak, and with some of her improvements I might give Plat a shot.

If I even get this game, heh.

Suppose you’ve kept up with all the revealed Miss4chan stuff on Skullgirls? X’D

          • http://www.genkaibreak.com Code

Haha yeah I’ve followed it closely for a long time; but recent footage of Miss Fortune looks great >w<; Really shows off the dynamics of the game's engine too~! Design is different then old Miss Fortune, but still liking this version of her!

            Really different play style though, but I'll give her a shot. Have you seen the character select screen o3o? Looks like there is potential for more characters then original expected. Guess the DLC plans might just be go o3o;

          • mikanko

Haha, dunno.  I follow the threads on dustloop and srk whenever I get a chance, and I think dlc chars have always been confirmed as planned.  Just if the game tanks they probably won’t get to start working on them.

The character select music is sooooooooo good though.

Mike Z has said they plan for around 15-20 sized cast out of the 30-40 character concepts Alex has, but knowing it’s taking them 2-3 months to animate and balance a character I don’t expect much too soon.  They’ve also said they want to allow for dlc characters to have free trials in training mode, but no idea if their publishers would ever go for that.

            Also Painwheel was revealed officially today, no footage yet, but holy hell she’ll have a flight mode.  Hello Sentinel. <.<;

          • http://www.genkaibreak.com Code

            @mikanko
            Yeah I knew DLC was confirmed, but I figure on the business end they must be feeling confident enough if they already have the character select laid out for at least a certain amount of characters owo;

            Yeah I figure we’ll be doing good if the game makes March to see a DLC character before the end of summer, but still either way I’m okay with supporting them with this direction if this is the direction they can get the best footing on o3o; Also having DLC character selectable for training would be a genius good move owo;

Ever since Fortune’s changes, I’ve been super curious if any of the other original concepts might also see some reworking owo~

  • cmurph666

    I’ll pay $29.99 for it.

Also, up to $7.99 for Jubei DLC.

  • Darkrise

Damn the cover for the JP version of the game looks awesome… Even though I’m quite disappointed that it’s not a real sequel, I’ll still get it. =/

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Wayne-LaBranch/100002132711844 Wayne LaBranch

    Not surprised… Moving on~

  • dahuuuundge

And then we’ll have Super Blazblue Continuum Shift Hyper Extended Arcade Tournament Edition 2012

    • Kris

Are we going to see this same lame joke in every fighting game post ever? It’s like people don’t understand how fighters are iterative. Companies have been doing this since Street Fighter II.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Wayne-LaBranch/100002132711844 Wayne LaBranch

Indeed it has, Arc System is no stranger to doing something like this (Guilty Gear X2 Accent Core anyone?…though that game rocks) but people can’t help and make that joke

      • Göran Isacson

Well, I don’t know about you but I didn’t like it back when Street Fighter 2 did it, and I still don’t like it. I wager that a lot of people hated this phenomenon back then too, but back then they didn’t have the internet to share their loathing.

        • mikanko

I’d guess they’re more a vocal minority than a majority though.  People who play fighting games regularly tend to like when games get improved and updated so that they have more reason to keep playing them. Most hate comes from a far more casual crowd.

That casual crowd is probably happy just playing the older version of the game they bought the first time. Which is fine. Just no reason to continuously complain about updates aimed at another demographic.

In order to keep up with newer arcade games Arcsys saw BB needing an update to keep player interest.  Arcade is probably their main source of revenue.  Updating and adding a lot of bonus stuff for console isn’t something they have to do.

Sucks it’s not a patch, but Japan’s standard for most updates is still a disc release.  Console plays second fiddle to arcade in Arcsys games either way, so they’re doing what’s easiest and most profitable.

Mainly it gets tiring hearing the comment make it into every fighting game topic ad infinitum.

  • darkbartz

Was looking to jump onto the BlazBlue fighting game bandwagon. Is this a good place to go into the story? Cause if so, the only thing would be to decide whether to get the PS3 or the PSV version.

    • http://profiles.google.com/mpureka Mike Pureka

For a first time buyer, this game is likely to be a steal – you’ll get ALL the story content to date, and all the characters released to date.  For someone looking to get in on the franchise, this is a great buy.  For someone who’s been in it since day 1, on the other hand, there’s not much on offer. =/

As for PS3 vs PSV? Well, depends on whether you’d prefer to play the game on a tiny screen with an analogue stick, or on a big one with, potentially, an arcade stick.

  • Göran Isacson

Extend for European/US launch title, perhaps? If Capcom can give Nintendo SF4 for the 3D, their second biggest competitor (I think) giving Sony Blazblue would be one heck of a PR-move.
