The story takes place in Tokyo, but not the Tokyo we know today. In the not so distant future, a mysterious hole shows up in the sky called the Lost Hole. It explodes destroying the central Tokyo and takes many lives with it. Time Travelers begins 18 years later on April 28, 2031. The metropolis has been rebuilt with a Space Elevator seated 2,000 meters above the city. This device powers the city, but how it creates energy is a mystery. April 28 looks like an ordinary day, but the fate of the world hangs in the balance.
Hina Fushimi is a TV personality. She dreams of being a newscaster and is dissatisfied with her job as a variety show regular. Seeking a scoop, she tracks down the Mysterious Skull who is said to be a terrorist. Yuri Fukase is a third year high school student who wears glasses. He’s a sporty person who is reserved with his feelings. Getting him to smile is a challenge since an incident in the past weighs heavily on him. Yuri and Mikoto are childhood friends.
Soma Kamiya is a detective and ranked as one of the best in the office. However, he was forced to take part in terrorist attacks because his wife and child have been kidnapped. Kyugo Shindou is a swindling scientist. He’s said to be a genius and uses his wits to trick people into thinking he has a time machine. Shindou cons people out of money with the Shindou Cutting Edge Quantum Mechanics Institute, which is really his apartment. Ressenti Man (real name Kakeru Inoyama) is a self-proclaimed hero. During his senior year of high school he became a hikkiomori (shut in). Then he dropped out of college and couldn’t land a job. He receives an allowance from his dad to keep him afloat. His life forked for the worse again when his girlfriend broke up with him. Now, he cosplays as a vigilante hero at night.
How do all of these characters come together and for what purpose? Famitsu doesn’t say. Time Travelers is slated for release next year on Nintendo 3DS, PSP, and PlayStation Vita.
